2012 is set to show a few well known fairytales as films, but with a much darker twist. There is going to be Jack the Giant Killer (Jack and the Beanstalk), Snow White and the Huntsman (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (Hansel & Gretel).

Are you looking forward to these films? If you could have a fairytale made into a film which would it be and what would be your darker twist?
 
Even though it's already been made into a film, I would love to see a darker, more apocalyptic version of The Wizard of Oz. That would be so cool.
 
I'm looking forward to the Snow White one.

I'd love to see a darker Beauty and the Beast, just because . . .well . . . I love Beauty and the Beast. 😀

I've read a lot of versions of it, and some of them were darker than the Disney version, but I'd like to see it in someone like . . .Neil Gaimon's hands . . . I can't even imagine what it would become. And I like that. lol
 
Is Jack the Giant Killer going to be Jack and the Beanstalk or the Jack the Giant Killer story?

Hadn't heard of the others but I've seen the trailer for this one and all I could think was why would Charlize Theron feel threatened by Kristen Stewart? But it seemed pretty good anyway so I want to see it. 🙂

I'd probably make one of "Snow White and Rose Red" which I really love, what dark twist it'd have I'd have to think about. That one or Rumpelstiltskin

although not apocalyptic and not an official remake, The Labyrinth was made using the same theme as Wizard Of Oz.

The Pied Piper story could be interesting, especially when the previous accounts of very similar happenings are included.
 
I am really looking forward to Snow White and the Huntsman. I enjoy Kristen Stewart's acting and can't wait to see her twist on Snow White.

I guess that the play Into the Woods could already be seen as a darker twist to many of the Fairy tales. I would not mind a darker twist to the Little Mermaid or Anastasia, though Anastasia was pretty dark already.
 
I am really looking forward to seeing these movies. It will be fun to see all my favorite childhood stories/movies re-done in a more adult tone.
 
I just thought some of you guys might find this interesting since most fairy tales have macabre origins anyway.

On this website there's the origins of ten popular fairy tales, I won't post them all but here's Cinderella:

In the modern Cinderella fairy tale we have the beautiful Cinderella swept off her feet by the prince and her wicked step sisters marrying two lords – with everyone living happily ever after. The fairy tale has its origins way back in the 1st century BC where Strabo’s heroine was actually called Rhodopis, not Cinderella. The story was very similar to the modern one with the exception of the glass slippers and pumpkin coach. But, lurking behind the pretty tale is a more sinister variation by the Grimm brothers: in this version, the nasty step-sisters cut off parts of their own feet in order to fit them into the glass slipper – hoping to fool the prince. The prince is alerted to the trickery by two pigeons who peck out the step sister’s eyes. They end up spending the rest of their lives as blind beggars while Cinderella gets to lounge about in luxury at the prince’s castle.

I know this is kinda sick in some way, but how the hell is pigeons pecking their eyes out the ONLY THING that alerts the Prince to them when parts of their feet are sliced off? Wouldn't he notice THAT first? Pretty Perceptive Prince, huh? Lol.
 
I remember reading a version where the sisters cut off parts of their feet, but don't remember any pigeons in it
