Faith, and your opinion of her

I do have alot of mixed opions (sorry i cant spell lol) about Faith. I found her better in Angel. I disliked her deeply in Buffy. She was not my cuppa tea to be honest.
But she did make me laugh with some of her comments.

I love Faith
I love her character
I love the way she acted
I love her complexity
I love her reactions to events
I love her.

She was definetly a lot more than just a more bad a** alter ego of Buffy. She had a lot of complex problem that needed to be dealt with and we see those problems evolve and getting solve(some of them) until the end. She had issues and I could relate to her even though she is a lot cooler and hoter than me 🙂

Faith had flaws and manage to make them look great and ok. She was never really educated and taken care of so we can understand for the way she acted around people some times. It wasn't her fault. And at least she tried to change after in Angel and s7/s8.

oh, and did I mention that she is totally hot

Okay I am a total and complete Faith lover. She is one of my favorite characters and I would probably enjoy the show even more if she was the star slayer. Yes, instead of Buffy. Faith the Vampire Slayer. No, nevermind. That does just not work.

Faith..... Faith.....Faith what can I say about the character except I absolutely loved her I mean the dynamic between Buffy and her was superb. Two people given the same power and purpose but lived entirely different lives and it shaped the way they lived those lives. And we were allowed to watch them learn to use those powers show us that purpose. It made me love Buffy even more because of who she is but also appreciate the fact I got to the power of a Slayer used for something other than good we watched darkness consume Faith and in the end she came out on top which made me love her even.

While I must admit I loved her more in Angel because it was the rise of her herioism which planted the seeds for Buffy season 7. Such a complex and interesting character doesn't come along a lot on T.V any more and I really enjoyed this scarred lonely girl evolve into a hero. The writers must have really had a field day with a character like Faith to show the road not traveled by the title character but also create depth and a need for redemption in the same character truly awesome.

One cncern though, I haven't read Season 8 of Buffy but I see the Buffy-Faith friendship has taken a few steps back. Which has me scratching my head because I for one believed that by the end of season 7 Buffy and Faith had built a mutual respect for one another.


One last thing what if Faith had been chosen to join the cast of Angel instead of Cordy imagine the story telling two title characters working towards redemption could have been great. But I wonder if what transpired between Spike and Buffy in Season 6 Buffy would have mirrored in Angel between Faith and him.

I love Faith. She is one of Joss's few characters who do not have a group of Scoobies or gang to fall back on. She is completely alone. She is unstable and does terrible things but she is interesting as a character. I feel sorry for her and can't help but root for her. I have been really glad that she was given a second chance on Angel and have loved how her character has progressed since than. She, like Darla, has never had any real love in her life as opposed to many of the other more "heroic" characters but when given a chance at redemption she took it.

I was just reminded of something this afternoon. Back at the height of the James Bond craze, about the time "Goldfinger" first came out, there was a movie made about another British agent called "The Second Best Secret Agent In The World." One of the blurbs about the character was. "He's only number two. He has to try harder." (It was later stolen by the Avis car rental company). That's how I always think of Faith. No matter how hard she tries, how much pain she suffers, or how much good she does, she knows that she will always be thought of as Number Two, the Other One, and the Second Slayer. But she keeps on trying anyhow.

I went from liking Faith (her whole badass Slayerness was such a great contrast to Buffy's...who, granted, went against the Council's grain a lot but still took her calling seriously), to loving Faith (she became a good friend to the Scoobies and Buffy..the scene where she calls Scott out on having a rash in front of his Homecoming date stands out in particular), to hating Faith (the whole going evil bit, although it made for some pretty awesome TV, and I DID love the Mayor a whole lot). And I thought I would dislike Faith forever, until she came back in Season 4. At the end of this dual-episode, when she is pummeling herself for all she's done and you can just FEEL through the TV screen how much she hates herself, and how much baggage she's carrying, and just how much she's hurting..well, it made me love her again. She made a great foil for Buffy, but she was also a complex, multi-layered character all on her own. When she comes back in S7, she has matured and grown in such a wonderful way. I just regret that we weren't able to see more of the recovered, better Faith in the later seasons.

I see more than a few parallels between Faith and Spike (generally the good person turned bad, then seeing the light and trying to atone for past sins while being at best distrusted by most of their so-called comrades), and I thought that the brief scenes with them together in Season 7 showed a lot of potential. I would love to see a Spike/Faith teamup in either Season 8 or A:ATF. They might even get to do more than talk about bull whips and warm champagne.

Buffy is my favourite character,she is no1 but Faith is also on my list of favourite characters and she truly gained my respect!
I know what she did to Buffy although i haven't watched the evil Faith episodes of the thrid season...i have watched enough Angel episodes though to understand that Faith was psychologically damaged cause of her childhood years...and that she was expressing all the anger and bad feelings through slaying,that's why Faith's fighting is more raw power IMO
I consider "Five by Five" one of Eliza's best performances...truly touched my heart...i started crying the moment Faith punched Angel in the rain screaming "i am bad...kill me please"...so deep down Faith understands that all that she does is wrong but she can't get away...Also i have watched the Faith episodes of Angel season 4 more than 3 times just to see her fighting...she is amazing because she feels she owns Angel the redemption of her soul...so she struggles for HIS soul to return the favor!She never forgot that Angel was te one who never gave up on her...that he was the only one to pay a visit in prison...

Faith still has some aspects of her character that i do not approve like the fact that she doesn't make emotional contact with men...just physical but still i admire her...she took a powerful and magical drug to save Angel..."she threw the dice...her life for his"(or sth like that) amazing!

I think she is a very intersting person. She had big bad problems in her life, and she just wanted to be noticed. That was something special for he. But then she met Buffy and everybody talked how Buffy is great, and she just lost that special thing, her problems came back and she decided to solve them in a bad, bad way. But everything she ever wanted was someone she can trust, a few friends, she wanted life like Buffy had, but she never ever admited that. I never liked Faith that much, but I never had a problem with her. Most of the time I just felt sorry for her.

^ i agree with you...all Faith wanted is to be noticed and have friends...the fact that everyone kept noticing Buffy instead of her...really didn't help with her issues...i also feel sorry for her because if she had a loving family,supportive friends in her life like Buffy did she would have evolved in a very different way!still she is special!

I liked her. I felt she had a lot of emotional baggage to start with, with that really crap childhood, then seeing your watcher torn in half, then the gwendolyn post incident, and accidently killing a man... everyone can only take so much before they break. Having nobody love you, not feeling love, even having problems comprehending can be a lot more serious than you nthink, and can be one of the worst mental issues out there and lead people to do crazy things.

I liked her also because she was distinguished from the rest of the cast and had a lot more than met the eye

It's kind of the opposite for me. I like her better after watching both series all the way through, and understanding her better. The characters I love best are usually the ones that have grown the most, and that certainly applies to Faith.

Although, I don't like how she's so slutty in the early seasons.

And please, please, can we stop referring to women as "slutty" and other derogatory terms? Faith used sex as a way to feel powerful when she often felt powerless in her life. It gave her control. I get really sick of the stigma again any female who doesn't save herself for marriage, or who has sex when she's not madly in love.

What Faith wore in terms of being rather sexy and flaunting her body was what she was used to. She came from what I always thought a background where she saw the worst of everything. Her mother was obviously a possible alcoholic and possibly a drug addict and I can imagine didn't take care of her looks. Faith was used to that so in a way what Faith percieved as a fashionable wasn't. In a way it was without going too overboard but stand Faith next to Buffy's fashion and it wasn't very good at all.

By the time we see Faith in season 7 of Buffy shes toned it down a lot but still keeps that edge. We see her dressed in tank tops, jeans with big studded belts. It shows that shes grown up but what she wears is still very Faith. Its the same with how she is around guys. She shows interest but instead of jumping them instantly she flirts more in a cheeky manner. Look at how she was with Spike in Buffy's basement (the same can't be said for Wood).

I loved Faith she is my all time favorite character from any show. Shes so broken and damaged by her past and really all she wants is to be loved. But because of her past she destroys any chance of relationship/friendship she has before it starts to avoid getting hurt. I'm not saying what she does to Buffy and the scoobies is right but I can understand why she did it. She felt like none of them were ever going to like her and never really let her in, she'd always be second to Buffy. Then when she kills whats his name I can never remember his name lol, she cant turn to them for help because shes already decided they cant be trusted so where else is she going to turn when everyone thinks shes already lost.

I adore her on Angel she breaks my heart. Sanctuary I think might be fave episode ever. When I watch Faith, thats who I see a broken little girl whos screaming for help. Even when shes killing people and laughing in your face, I see that little girl crying in Angels arms. I was totally with Angel when he punched Buffy. She was such a b*** in that episode. I love B but seriously the writers are terrible at crossovers Angel and Buffy always act out of character on eachothers show. Angel reverts back to s3 whipped Buffy boy and Buffy becomes an uber b***

When Faith made her reappearance in s4 of Angel GOD she SAVED the season omg no actually she didnt because it was beyond being saved. But those three episodes were some of the only good ones in that season. I loved her interaction with Angelus in those episodes. And her shower scene at the beginning of Release is soo sad, and a real insight into Faith.

Season 7 of Buffy I feel like Faith was just sort of there they didnt really develop her or anything just more fighting with Buffy and Buffy punching Faith several times -_- Not that I didnt love having Faith there. I just dont think they really developed or resolved anything with her character. And the thing with Robin was so unnecessary.
