How do you think Faith would have turned out if she did not kill the deputy mayor?
The same? Different?
How much influence would Buffy have put on her?

I think that Faith had issues she needed to deal with and killing a human being just brought those issues to the front. If she hadn't killed that guy I still think the same thing would have happened to her eventually, it just would have been something else that triggered it.

I don't think that anyone (even Buffy!! lol) could have enough influence on her to make her not "lose it" ...these were deeply ingrained issues she had and they needed to be dealt with.

I guess this shows the "PTB" do not have a choice on who gets the slayer attributes...🙂

it would ahve happened eventually. she thinks shes better than everyone else and one life doesnt matter. that attitude would get her in ttrouble eventually. and it might have been a time when she had no one to help her.

Actually, what makes you say that.
For all we know, the PTB's 'turned on' Faith to save her.

Remember who it is that saved her...Angel.
If she never turned to Slayer, she'd never have gone to Sunnydale, thus meeting Angel. This inturn led her to LA(eventually) where Angel put her on the path to redemption.

I think Faith was always destined to visit her darness born from the stuff in her life.
The killing of the Deputy was the catalyst, but not the cause, it was the subsequient treatment of the situation.
Buffy was forcing Faith when she clearly wasn't willing or able to do it, then when she told someone, she was found out a liar.
She did wrong, she knew it, but she focussed on her lack of support, this is what pushed her over the edge.
If she hadn't accidentally killed the deputy, she would have found another situation where she felt like an unsupported outsider.

Further proof of this is when Angel nearly gets through to her, but Wesley and the council charge her.
Angel is giving her the support that she needs, she is almost on the brink being on the good side, but that is taken away.
Thats the reason as well she falls in with the Mayor, and even as far as season 7, still looks fondly on him, in her own way, as he gave her love and support.....just the extra stuff he required that was bad.

basically what i was trying to say. but in more detail :)
she thinks shes better than everyone else and one life doesnt matter
Personally I really doubt these were her real opinions. She just had to "protect" herself when she ended up in that situation. It's quite obvious how much what she had done really did bother her and stuff.

Not saying that means she wouldn't have ended up that way sooner or later, just, I doubt it's what she ever wanted.

Most of what's been said I agree with. While Faith is not my favorite character, she did have a lot of issues that she needed to deal with. I always got the feeling that she had a bad home life, and that is something that some people never get over.

Her problems with killing a human were the icing on the cake. It destroyed her and probably was the fire in the remaining bad choices she makes until she admits herself to prison.

I think Faith would have ended up where she was at the end of Buffy wether or not she killed the dep. mayor or not. The only thing that would have been different would have been the trip not the destination 🙂.

I agree pretty much with everyone that said that Faith probably would have eventually went down the same track as she did without killing the deputy major and that it was a catalyst to her downfall.

I think with Faith all the actions were out of fear. You think about, when she comes to Sunnydale she has noone, no watcher, no family to speak of. She is met by Buffy, this slayer with a loving mum, a watcher and a group of friends who support her and care for her more than Faith can understand. She wants to be part of that group, in every scene no matter how tough she's acting, the insecurity is always there.

In Revelations she messed up, she trusted her new watcher, she let her seperate herself from the group and the one thing that triggered it was when she heard that the gang were having a meeting and did not include her. She didn't fit in and she latched on to the one person who was spending time with her who turned out to be evil.

After that you see her trying to bond and she tries to fit into the group, homecoming she's all for her and buffy bonding at the dance and definately in Bad Girls she's finally beginning to feel like she is fitting in and not screwing up for once in her life. You can see the bond between the slayers building up and Buffy somewhat pushing even Willow to the side and I think Faith was beginning to get the acceptance that she craved.

Then she accidentally killed the deputy mayor, you could tell by her reaction immediately that it was a mistake, she paniced, she didn't know how to cope. In seconds she thinks that now she has taken a human life her little group of support that she is finally beginning to break into will turn on her and shun her again and she freaks out and tries her best to blame buffy and lie so she doesn't lose everyone in her life. I'm not saying that that was the right way of going about it, but I can understand her thinking. Then when Angel gets to her she shows signs of turning back, maybe she won't fall after all because Buffy and Angel both provide support for her and give her time. But wesley dashes in and takes her away.

So shes's alone again, worried that shes going to be taken away from everyone and everything once again and how she is going to be treated like a murderer and will never fit in again so she lashes out and escapes. She sees no way that her friends are ever going to let her in or give her a chance again so she turns to the mayor, and as the relationship progresses her fears lessen because she has been given a father figure, a guy who will listen to her, and give her the affection that she wants. And she does anything to keep that affection there, so turns to commiting evil acts.

I don't agree with how she dealt with things but I think ultamitely she was just a scared little girl, and always was, so evenutally something would have happened to spark off the paranoia in her head and she would have fallen, not necessarily into the hands of the mayor and his evil plans but she would have fallen nonetheless

She still would've ended up becoming who she did after Bad Girls if she hadn't killed a human. That was just the last straw.
