OK i was just thinking as far as we know faith never had prophecy dreams and we know from Fray that the powers of prophecy dreaming and seeing the lives of past slayers are completely seperate from the physical powers of the slayer. So I think faith and kendra never recieved these powers of the slayer, my reason for this is as far as we know neither had prophecy dreams and also shouldn't faith and kendra at least sub conciousley know everything about buffy because they get the memories of past slayers, whereas they didnt even seem to really know her that well, especially kendra. Although the weirdo, psycho slayer in angel did have the power of viewing the past lifes of the slayer but was that because she was a scythe activated slayer, did that make her a full blown slayer and faith/kendra only 1/3 maybe 2/3s of a slayer as it seems the slayers gifts are threefold. Or did they simply not get buffys memories because she didnt really die or maybe you dont get the memories of the slayer before you. Are any of these questions answered in the programor by joss?

They've never been really addressed as far as I know. That might be a key point. I mean, if they did want us to believe Faith and Kendra lacked prophecy powers, shouldn't we expect them at some point to at least suggest it?

Yeah I suppose unless they're trying to make us think of these things for ourselves, i mean a lot of things in the buffyverse are open to intepretation by the fans

what about the dreams buffy and faith shared in 'graduation day' and 'this years girl'? faith predicted dawn and buffy's death in both of these dreams. doesn't that suggest that she had some sort of prophecy gift?

Sure they're open to interpretation, but call me crazy, I just think it would be nice to have something to interpret.

For example Lyri mentions the Dawn prophecy dream. The one I'm thinking of appears to suggest Faith and Buffy may have shared the dream. You have something to hang a theory of prophecy dreaming on there. It gets better if you can find more support.

But if you say we don't see Kendra have dreams so that means she doesn't have them, isn't that a little saying we don't see her have bowel movements, so that means she doesn't have them?

yeah, buffy and faith shared this dream, but we don't know who's subconscious those dreams came from. maybe becauese there was never supposed to be two slayers at the same time they somehow both get these dreams at the same time and can interact with each other inside those dreams, and even though they are both in the same dream, they think the other person is just a figment of that dream, and therefore her imagination

How do we even know Faith was in the graduation day dream, cant think of the this years girl one at the moment, i mean tara was in peoples dreams in restless but wasnt actually in them, maybe buffy imagined faiths presence, especially since Faith was kind of out of character, you know helping buffy kill the mayor when she loved him as if he where her father

In my opinion there's no real conclusive evidence Buffy and Faith shared the Graduation 2 dream, but it is pretty strongly suggested. After all, Buffy did draw information on how to kill the Mayor from somewhere.

Then there's this from the actual dream that seems to suggest some kind of connection. (But it is just a dream):

Buffy with a half smile: "Is this your mind or mine?"
Faith with a short laugh: "Beats me." Buffy gives a little laugh in return and looks down. Faith walks towards her: "Getting towards that time."

And afterwards when they have a Scooby meeting to discuss how to defeat the Mayor Buffy seems to believe she actually communicated with Faith:

Giles gets up and walks towards her: "Um, Buffy, all of this is rather depended on your being able to control the Mayor."
Buffy: "Faith told me to play on his human weakness."
Willow: "Faith told you? Was that before or after you put her into a coma?"
Buffy: "After." Willow: "Oh." Then looks confused over at Oz.

I don't think there is anything in This Year's Girl that suggests Buffy and Faith share the dream there.

Whose to say that Kendra and Faith did or didn't have the prophecy dreams? We only saw a short portion of their lives. It's possible they had the dreams, but it was never addressed because it was never important to the plot of Buffy and Angel.

like i said before, there was nothing to suggest kendra or faith didn't have prophecy dreams. the show was called Buffy the vampire slayer, therefore it was about buffy's life, not faith's or kendra's. the show focused on buffy's dreams because it was her show, but none of the writers or joss ever suggested that buffy was the only slayer to get these dreams, we just didn't see anyobe else get them.
and btw, the dream in the start of 'this year's girl' shows buffy and faith making buffy's bed. faith says to buffy 'gotta get ready for little sis coming' which is a direct link to dawn.

I agree with you.
Oh yeah, the prophecy part of that dream is aknowledged.

Speaking for myself though, I've never been certain where exactly the dream comes from. Is it slayer-related? Is it a gift from what in Reprise was called the powers of light? Is it just a writer's trick of foreshadowing that we shouldn't take too seriously?

Also I've never been convinced they share that dream, or at least that that's the only possible explanation for what happens. The dream in Restless is a shared dream, because they tell us it is, but this one, I don't know. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. It's all very mysterious, like the snow in Amends.

I just assumed Buffy and Faith shared the dream, because if Buffy had died before the arrival of Dawn, then perhaps Faith would have had to be Dawn's big sister, which could be said to direcly affect the slayer line. Buffy's sacrifice and subsequent resurrection is what spurred the First to attack the chosen - events that probably wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Dawn.

Then again, that's my own little fic-mind theory.

I think the prophecy dreams come from a higher being, e.g. the powers that be so they would be similar to cordys visions
