Just a few things I was thinking about while watching season three;

1) If Faith hadn't have gone into a coma, where do you think she would have been on Graduation Day and would the outcome have differed in any way? My guess is that she would have arrived with the vampires and maybe fought off Angel while the vampires went for Wesley, Percy and co. Your thoughts?

2) Why didn't Buffy ask Faith for help in ''Helpless''? It just made no sense to me as an episode the way it was written...Faith didn't lose her slaying abilities so she could have rescued Joyce.

3) Do you think she was right when she told Buffy that she never got as much praise as Buffy did, even though she is also a slayer? I did agree with her lol...

Well I have a reply for you first question. I actually thought that if she hadn't have been in a coma, she would have been near the front with the Mayor. I think when the final battle started that she would have attacked Buffy which would have distracted her from stopping the Mayor. I don't think her presence at the front would have made Buffy and the gang attack her or anything at the beginning of the Ceremony as that would have drawn attention to them.

I'm not sure about the Helpless question. I haven't seen this episode for a while so my mind is a bit rusty.

Perhaps buffy felt joyce is her responability. And you know buffy she has to save her friends, and acts before she thinks...well in the early seasons anyway.

I think she might have been used to preoccupy Buffy as well. who knows what that would've resulted in. It was cool and everything but the graduates werent really putting up that good of a fight up against the mayor. They could handle the vampires with Angels help(and wesleys unhelpfulness) but it was buffy who lured the mayor into the school to be exploded, and he only followed because of faith. perhaps buffy would've been forced to kill face to then lure him to the explosives, although who knows who would've won.

I dont really understand the third question but think u mean about faith being jelous of buffys friends, and giles helping, and praising her more than faith. II think Faith was allowed to voice her opinion, and I always felt Buffy seemed unaware of Faiths loneliness until it was too late.

Buffy mentions in the episode 'Helpless' (or maybe it was Giles, i dunno) that Faith was on another of her 'unannounced walkabouts' so Buffy had no idea where Faith was and couldn't ask for her help even if she wanted too.

if Faith had not gone into the coma, then the gang would not have known that human weakness was the way to defeat the Mayor, as Faith mentions this in the dream she and Buffy shared. Faith would have been at the Mayor's side and the gang might have lost the fight.

Buffy had the friends and family that Faith craved. her friends were often the ones who gave Buffy the praise for her slaying abilities, because Joyce didn't really approve of what her daughter did, and Giles knew what she was capable of. the only person who praised Faith was her watcher, and she died soon after Faith was called. So yes, i believe Faith was right when she said this.

I may be a bit new to this, but if Faith gives out the mayor's weakness, wouldn't that mean she had a bit of good still inside her? And is so, standing next to the mayor at the ceremony would have conflicted her own thoughts.
She explains how to defeat the mayor, but she's still with him. Very conflicted girl, eh?

That was a bit confusinhg wasn't it?

Chasing Cordy, could you clarify what seasons of the show you have seen please.

Now as for Lyri's point, this is all based on a dream that Buffy had. Its still not 100% conclusive if that was Faith in the dream, and even if it was, that doesnt mean it was a true representation of the girl outside.
Dream speaker could just have been the Conscience with nothing clouding the judgement....or it could just as easily been Buffy finally putting the dots together after seeing how the Mayor was with Faith......or it could have been another entity completely....we will probably never know.

Although I agree, without Faith having been in a coma/badly injured, the "human weakness" advice wouldn't serve as much use if Faith were up and about for battle. As for Faith's reasoning, I don't know. I felt she was right, but there were plenty of times when she got so much attention from the scoobies when she arrived in Sunnydale in "Faith, Hope and Trick." It even made Buffy jealous at one point. Heh.

I think in answer to the question about the Graduation Day that if Faith had not been put into a coma for the fall, she would more than likely tried to take Buffy on one on one again, either before the ceremony started or in the big fight. Buffy stabbed her in the gut and was willing to kill her, I don't think Faith would have let that one rest. But if you think about it, Slayer with stab wound fighting healthy slayer who kicked her ass last time would probably have ended with Faith in a coma anyways, or worse. She would definately been fighting in some way, and I would guess that Buffy would have figured out she needed to blow up the mayor and when she beat faith in front of the mayor he would have went to kill her and she would have ran and trapped him like she did, therefore it probably would have resulted in the same outcome.

The 'helpless' question I always seen as what someone else stated above, Faith was on one of her unannounced walkabouts so couldn't help. I also don't know that even if she had of been there, buffy would have tried to contact her to help to save joyce. Shes a slayer, her mum was taken her instincts where to go and save her, regardless of whether she had her strength or not. She had the option of getting Angel to help her but it was she was panicked and would have went as fast as could to save Joyce.

And the last question, I do think that Faith is right, Buffy always seemed the THE slayer, even when Faith was there and to an extent always seemed to get the comfort and the affection and praise that Faith didn't but that is going to be expected when shes a new girl, with noone around her to support her before she came to sunnydale

1)Well I think that Faith would be fighting Angel at Graduation Day. It would have been cool to see Angel kick Faith's butt because she deserves it so much (in my opinion).

2)Well I mean the episode was about Buffy losing her powers and seeing how she would do if she didn't have them. The episode wasn't really about Faith. Faith could have been in the episode and saved Joyce but I think it was Buffy's responiblilty to save Joyce. Seeing that she is her mother and everything,

3)Well I guess I agree. I really don't know that much. It just depends.

I've always felt that one of the Slayer's potentialy fatal flaws was summed up by Spike in Season Seven. "No matter how many friends they have, the Slayer fights ALONE." It's simply contrary to Buffy's nature to ask for help. Tima and again, she went charging off to face some Big Bad all alone, when a few allies could've made all the difference. Angel would certainly have been a help against the Master, as either he or Faith would have been in "Helpless." Granted, when she faces off against the Mayor at the Assention, she has all the graduating class to assist her, and in "Chosen," she does the same with the Potentials, but those are only the final battles. All of the rest of the time, in every season, the greatest majority of her fights are without allies.

1. I think she would of bein by the mayor side.
2. because she was not in town, I think the watch counil tell to go somewhere, because she had all ready trun 18 there for she had taken the test, so she could not be intown, because she would of tell buffy what was going on.
3. yes, someone should of show her some surrpot.:You_Rock_

Giles: (seriously) Buffy, I'm aware of your distaste for studying
vibratory stones, but since it is part of your training, I would
appreciate your glib-free attention.

Buffy: Sorry. It's just with Faith on one of her unannounced
walkabouts, I feel like somebody should be patrolling.

Giles: (looks over the crystals) Well, Faith is not interested in
proper training, so I must rely on you to keep up with yours.

Buffy: I hate being the good one.

I had a similar suspicion to the poster above. Wouldn't the watchers have wanted Faith out of the way? Is it possible Giles secretly sent her on some wild goose chase mission?

On Faith's age. Is that mentioned somewhere? I missed that, but it would be worth knowing.

1) I think maybe if Faith wouldn't have been put in the coma, Faith could have had a revelation from Buffy and kind of decide being evil sucked. Then they would destroy the mayor together. In my own little world...

2) In Helpless, it was Buffy's duty to stop the vampire. If Faith would have helped...hey! Faith could have been having her Cruciamentum at the time, too.

3) I think Buffy got more praise because she had been around more and gained more respect. My opinions.

3) Do you think she was right when she told Buffy that she never got as much praise as Buffy did, even though she is also a slayer? I did agree with her lol...

No. You have to be a genuine c**t to believe that Faith scored points with that bullshit.

Faith was just misunderstood. The reason she went so bad is because no one was willing to support her. Hey, it's not her fault she's somewhat mentally unstable.

She still rocks.

Darling Faithy
at one time or another, everyone is mentally unstable.
On the topic of 'Helpless', I'm going to go into a couple of things.

Faith's birthday is December 14th, 1980. By the time Buffy was going through her Crucimentium, Faith would've already had hers, but according to Go Ask Malice [of which I'm referring to because it's really the only source we have regarding Faith's background and upbringing] Faith found out about the test before her Watcher was able to administer it, which makes a lot of sense.

I'm also with n4h on Giles sending Faith away for the test - it just clicks for me, and fits with the tone of the episode.

Now, on the issues of 'Graduation Day'...

Depending on when exactly in the fight Faith was hurt [was it being stabbed? Was it the fall? Was it a combination of both?], I could go either way. If being stabbed was the catalyst for the coma, then I'd say Faith would've definitely changed the outcome of the fight with the Mayor. What I'm saying here is, if Faith never went into the coma at all, then getting stabbed would've never happened, and she would be able to fight with the Mayor on Graduation Day.

If it was the fall, then she'd be too wounded to do any real damage and end up as Buffy fodder in the end anyway, which wouldn't really change the episode much except Faith would probably be dead.

I also have many opinions about how Faith was treated by the Scoobs and Buffy in particular, but I'll say this: yes. It doesn't have anything to do with how long Buffy was around or anything like that. I takes three seconds for Willow or Giles to look at Faith and say, "Wow. You did a really good job." It's not hard, but I guess people were too caught up in how awesome and right all the time Buffy was to care.

I'm getting tired and my brain is starting to fry, so I'll end here.

I've looked at this a few times and wondered if I should bother typing us a response. Most people come to this site with opinions that they think is right, no matter what. - No lip from you

Faith has some complex and deep rooted issues, issues that she brought to Sunnydale, they didn't originate there. To suggest that a few words could someone solve the problem is quite simply naive. Season 3 was one long power trip for Faith, everytime the juices started to wane she got some other boost to make her feel like a god again. She was powerful, above human laws, superior to humanity.

The only person that could solve Faith's problems was Faith. To do that she had to be grounded.

Also, Buffy did help Faith. She offered her support more than once. People blame Buffy because she's an annoying twig, but what happened to Faith really wasn't her fault.

I totally agree if Faith a not been in that coma , she and Buffy most definately would have fought, causeing Buffy to loose precious time that need to be use to stop the Mayor.
