"Faith The Vampire Slayer" Instead Of "Tru Calling"

This isn't a question about whether or not we, as fans of "Buffy," would have preferred that Eliza had accepted the role in a spin off, but rather, do you think that "Faith The Vampire Slayer" as a series would have been more successful than "Tru Calling" was. In other words, did Eliza simply pick the wrong project?

Personally, I think that a series featuring Faith, possibly with one or two of the "Buffy" alumnus either as regulars or frequent guest stars, would have been better received than "Tru Calling" was, simply because Faith was an already established character, with a background story that even those who rarely or never watched the original show could understand. Faith is a girl who goes around slaying vampires. Simple. There was no hint as to who Tru was, what she did, or why she was called upon to do it. Not very many people were willing to choose it over what they were already watching at that time.

(That made a lot more sense when I was writing it than it does when I read it, so how about this instead: Basically, "Faith The Vampire Slayer" is just a more interesting show title that "Tru Calling.")

Would think it would be a good idea if she had her own series. Then again, she turned it down. The problem with Faith, when she was on ‘Buffy’ she had to take a lesser role as a slayer. The one that turned bad and in the end started to become good is an old like story with a number of books and movies. With Buffy, she needed Faith as her counter weight. If Faith had her own show, would she not herself need another Slayer to work and fight with?

What if Faith had her own series, would she win the fights with Buffy is she came in from time to time? Just like when Buffy won the fights against Faith with her own show.

Anyway, if Faith had her own series, I feel she would need a counter weight of another slayer. Problem is how many slayers can be around at the same time – since it was a break from custom with having two then one.

I give anything that Joss does a chance, as do most of his fans, so I'm sure that more people would have watched. Then again, it depends on what network it would have aired on. Firefly clearly didn't last long and a lot of people insist that, that was because it was aired on Fox. I think the last sci fi show to do well on that network was The X-Files. Also, Tru Calling brought in Buffy fans and other, random new fans. If I wasn't a Buffy fan, I wouldn't be interested in a show like Faith the Vampire Slayer (okay, I would...but lets pretend that I have no interest in vampire slayers. Lets pretend that vampires frighten me but girls who can hear the dead speak don't)...but Tru Calling would catch my interest regardless.

Maybe she did make the best decision. I would have really loved another Buffy spin off though.

I do feel that she picked the wrong project. I liked "Tru Calling", but to me, Eliza has never fit better in any role than Faith. It's like she was born to play Faith, and she only got more interesting the more we saw of her. When she came back in Season 7 of Buffy, with all the baggage she brought with her from being incarcerated, it would have been the perfect time to explore that with her own series. She was a tortured soul, and I think her series would have done amazingly well. It would have been a more grown-up version of Buffy, which would have been perfect, seeing as how most BtVS fans were growing up with the show, anyway.

Yeah, who on here wouldnt watch Ftvs? I'd watch Gunn with a gun or whatever. They need to bring something out.

Yeah I think even Eliza knew Faith would of been the safer job but I think she wanted to try something different and took a riskier move...ofcourse all of us here wish she took the Faith show

I loved Tru calling but I think I would have loved Faith tvs a hell of a lot more.

I would only want a "Faith the Vampire Slayer" if "Angel" wasn't cancelled. The idea of an Angel season 6 and Faith season 1 running at the same time makes me nerd happy

I'd have taken a Faith show over AtS any old time (as was originally planned, if only for a short time since Eliza declined quickly), especially as it would also have fixed my biggest peeve with BtVS (bringing a certain someone back after Becoming II... perfect ending, then sold out with its poignance ruined because Joss needed a new lead char for the spinoff. Bleh.).

I gotta say though, I did enjoy Tru Calling, and was sad that it was cancelled so quickly; but I'd have taken a Faith series even if it meant no AtS and no TC. 😛

I'll start with admitting I really liked Tru Calling. However I think Tru Calling was never going to be a major show like Buffy anyway, I mean how many times can you get new material out of reliving days? To me it would have got stale quickly.

I would have loved to see a Faith spin off, she was such an interesting character and to me someone I could relate to. Buffy was a bit too popular and girly for me (don't get me wrong I still love her) so when Faith joined the show it was like a breath of fresh air. I think a lot could have been explored into Faith's life previous to being a slayer and how she first felt when she realised she was a slayer right up until her time and prison and beyond. I would have much prefered to watch this than Tru Calling. I could see it being a much darker version of BtVS, as mentioned, perhaps more suited towards a more adult audience.

It would have been good. Still, I think she understood that UPN was going under some time down the road. The problem with the show with Faith, she was always second best to Buffy. If she had her own show as Faith, would it really last as long as Buffy. Maybe or maybe not, and if it only lasted less than Buffy "“ her career would always be tied to Buffy and she cannot move on.
