Assume for a moment that Buffy died at the end of Season 5, but was never resurrected. Assume further that Faith, due to the Watchers' Council's manipulation or some other way, was paroled into Giles' custody. From that point, Season's 6 and 7 go along with all of the major plot details remaining the same, only tweaked to favor Faith instead of Buffy. How good do you think those last two seasons would have been? Do you think that the show might have gone on into a Season 8 and even beyond?

No I don't think it would have gone on.
I love Faith and she is definitely one of my all-time favorite characters, however I don't think she would have made a good protagonist.
Firstly I don't see her blending in with the Scoobies for a longer period of time but even if that was possible I feel for Faith to become the principle character of the show there would have to be changes made to her character as a lead protagonist seldomly have as much freedom to their personalities as a side-character does (she would have needed to be liked by the many rather than the few). And that would have ruined Faith for me personally.

For "Faith the Vampire Slayer" to work I think she would have (just like Angel) needed a new start in a new town with new people. A show that's all about her and not just her stepping up to fill the void Buffy left behind.

I don't think it would have worked due to Faith's relationship with the Scoobies. Buffy had that special bond with her friends, Faith was a darker character and i couldn't see her leading as well as Buffy did in season 7. She couldn't handle the pressure of making the tough decisions, she was much more laid back and she admitted that herself to Buffy.

Faith and Spike in season 6 i don't think would have had the same effect on the audience. Buffy's romance with Spike shocked the audience, i don't think people would have been surprised if Faith hooked up with souless Spike. Also Spike's love for Faith wouldn't have had the same effect.

The relationship he built up with Buffy in season 5 meant what happened in season 6 was a natural progression. If he was to start having these feelings for Faith it wouldn't make sense. The history between the characters simply wasn't there.

I agree with Taake that Faith needed a new start in a new town if she were to become a focal point of a show. Even if Buffy had been killed i couldn't imagine Faith being the main player in Sunnydale. The relationship with the other characters simply wasn't there.

When she went to Angel it was different. She had a repore with Gunn and deep history with Wes. So she fitted in a lot better in that environment. In Buffy she only really knew Buffy, her interaction with the other characters was pretty much non-existant. This was again seen in season 7 when she doesn't talk to Willow, Xander, Anya etc, the yactually have to bring in Wood to give her screen time which i think says a lot.

I think Taake summed it up. Buffy wouldn't have been the same show without her, and not to mention the misleading title. Lol. I don't think Faith's character was anywhere near the level of development Buffy was on at that point, so she would definitely would have been better off with her own show that trekked her journey. 🙂

I can understand wouldn't have been the same without Buffy, which is why it would be called "FAITH, The Vampire Slayer," a series idea that was seriously considered after Season 7, but the show's format didn't suit Eliza, so she opted for "Tru Calling," instead. Faith in Sunnydale might have appealed to her more than Faith as a vampire slaying nomad, roaming across the country on a motorcycle.

And I personally think that Eliza would have been perfectly capable of carrying the show. Granted, Faith would have a struggle at first to guard the hellmouth full time, but no harder than Buffy did in the beginning. Actually, the fact that she was having to live up to Buffy's reputation and regain the trust that she had lost during Season 3 might have made for an interesting sub plot for Season 6.

Plus, Faith and Spike working together could have been interesting.

Eh, I still wouldn't want to see "Faith the Vampire Slayer" setting up shop in Sunnydale. The comparison among fans would always be there, and I would think we could have more interesting storylines from Joss in an expanded Buffyverse. Similar to what he did with Angel, and just because FtVS wouldn't have the Sunnydale setting doesn't mean that she is automatically going to be a traveling nomad on a motorcycle. :/

Actually, that actually was what they planned on it being. Something like "Kung Fu" or "The Fugative" with demons and vampires. That's why Eliza turned it down.
I think it would have been intresting to see Faith take the lead, her character was never given enough time to grow she just never seemed to go very deep and nothing was ever really revealed about her.

I think Faith having her own show would have worked better a spin off like Angel I cant see her as taking over for Buffy. I adore faith so its not that I just dont think it would have worked.

I always thought it would have been awesome if she had become a full time cast member in season 5 of Angel.

I have often thought about this.

I think it might have worked, indeed. Instead of Season 6's Buffy's moping, we could have had an AWKWARD yet fun season of Faith being rehabilitated and integrated with the scoobies. Possibly with sex with Spike ...

And then in Season 7, instead of Buffy's boring speeches, we get Faith's active if not always well thought out leadership. And plenty of guest appearances from The Mayor/First!

I don't think it would work if she's taking over Buffy role. Buffy(the character) fans might get upset. I think it would work, though, if she had to come back to slay demons in Sunnydale till they brought back Buffy. I want to see the Scoobies accepting her a bit more. And after that, she could either stay or leave. I prefer, stay, though. She can be a regular. 🙂

Oh, you just want some fuffy action. lmao
If it had come to this I think this would of been the best way for Faith The Vampire Slayer to carry out: I don't think it would of worked Faith slaying demon's butts in Sunnydale with the Scoobys. I think the first half of the season however should of been her bonding with a few, and not so much with others and having to go againest something as powerful as The Beast which would end up destroying the whole of Sunnydale in the process. Same way maybe with Spike, so then we would of got him in the mix with the fang gang earlier. Faith would of then ended up somewhere else, maybe with the likes of Willow, Tara, Gunn and Gwen.

Would have been a cool premise though...

Like Angel took LA to show he was playing in the big city now, I would have liked to see a Faith series where she went to New York or maybe back to Boston... made a life for herself there with her own friends and such...

Failing that, a complete turnaround and do something more like Supernatural... just Faith, roaming from town to town on a motorbike or something... hunting things down and slaughtering her way through the demons of America...

I think a Faith series could have done really well, could have been a lot more adult than Buffy was...

Completely Agree with this!

Oh man, this sounds like it came right out of Saturday Night Live.

Watch out, NBC might just want to use this. Be prepared to roll in the big bucks! :dollar2:

But seriously, I don't think this would have worked, because a moping Buffy is still sexier than Faith, most of the time, IMO.

But, as a spin-off, it'd certainly be better than Angel. Imagine Faith and her watcher, Wesley squabble to no end. 😀

And if you needed a different city, try Seaside Heights, Ocean County, NJ.

I thought that I had read that it wasn't exactly that Eliza turned Joss' idea down, it's just that Tru Calling came up when Joss was still just thinking of the idea of a Faith spinoff, and that he actually encouraged her to take the role. But, I could be remembering wrong!

I would watch. I would have liked to see how it would have carried out, seeing Faith get acception for once and see Eliza's character draw out more.

To be honest, I've always liked Faith more than Buffy *shot*
And I'm also guilty to be a Spaith lover *shot again*

I think having Faith in Sunnydale wouldn't be bad, but if Faith had her spinoff and went to a different city, we would have to go through a bunch of new characters and the writers would have to find all sorts of new storylines for the new characters.
But put Faith in Sunnydale, all you have to worry about is how you'd make everyone fit with Faith killing the demons and staking the vampires.

I'd like to see a better bond with Faith and Spike (as mentioned above)

And if Faith took Buffy's spot in Season 6, would there still be a Trio? Would Warren try to shoot Faith and Xander? Would Tara still die? Would Faith constantly complain and even sing about how she was pulled out of Heaven?
And in Season 7, what would Faith think of Kennedy if Tara was still killed? Would Faith give boring speeches? Would Faith tie Andrew to a chair?

It really gives you something to think about
