Faith torturing wesley

It was horrible. I felt so bad for Wesley. At the same time I felt bad for Faith. Just in a different way. She was really hurting and she needed someone to help her. The one person she wanted most to do that was Buffy, but it ended up being Angel. That's ok too of course. Gosh Wes must have thought she was going to kill him, imagine? So scary.
 
I always saw it as Faith trying to make him feel all the pain she felt inside. Like she had no other outlet for it or way of describing it.

That's interesting, I never thought of that. I always thought that she was trying escape the pain by being more evil. The more she embraced it, the more she thought she could relieve herself of the guilt. It was also a way to get Angel to 'play': To kill her.

I duno, in Buffy it seemed to me that she kept trying to tell people how lost she felt but no one got it or they just didn't care. I always thought instead of trying to escape more pain she wanted to create more in the hope that if she created enough it would kill her.
 
It did seem as if she was acting out, trying to be bad, and I did even feel a little sorry for her myself. She was confused and hurt, and I know torturing not really a good way for her to express those feelings, but because of the life she had had, misbehaving was the only outlet, and as we saw even in Buffy it got more violent as time went on. When Angel finally confronted her about it, let her be as evil as wanted, she broke down.

I never saw her as evil, just that she had tried everything else and this was the only thing that got her attention. She pretty much raised herself, she struck me as painfully lonely, even more so in the comics.

Couldn't have said it better! Fantastically worded!

Technically, Wesley caused all her pain inside, but he wasn't trying to. Angel was helping her, really, really helping her. Cause, he's good at that. Then, in "Consequences", he takes her away and she gets pissed again. He destroyed her chance at a normal life and she was taking all that pain out on him. And her questioning about him needing to be a better watcher showed it, imo.

I agree with all of the insights people were making about Faith's reasons for acting the way she acted. But... I don't know, man. I felt bad when Angelus tortured Giles, but I knew that Giles could take it. I felt bad when Spike had Angel tortured, but I knew Angel could take it. Wes, I wasn't so sure Wes could take it. It gave me a strange sort of respect for him, really. But in some ways, because I saw Wes as weaker, I saw the torturing of Wes as even more inexcusable than the torturing of Giles or Angel.

I agree. I could not even look at the screen anymore because all I saw was a crazed woman with supernatural strength torturing a mere mortal. Well, I never really thought of this any other way than a combination of Faith getting Angel to play, and the added bonus of getting vengeance on Wesley. It was only when her fight with Angel started that I started to feel sorry for her. I actually almost cried in that scene in the alley. Eliza Dushku shines in this scene.

I think it was the makings of Wesley. It was like his introduction to the real world of demons, he was so naive about it. Working with Angel had brought him along greatly but what Faith did to him, he couldn't play the eejit anymore, he grew up. I mean compare his reactions to Faith's torture of him and to him being loaded into the ambulance at the end of Graduation...big difference.
 
Wesley really grew up on Angel. From trying to fight the demon world alone to being part of a team that respects him and truly values his insight, to being tortured and so on and so forth. Wes had a true journey. And I guess we will see how that journey plays out in after the fall, if he is in it like he MAY be, cause I dunno yet.
 
Faith torturing Wes was a ploy to get Angel mad enough to kill her. None of the things she did to Wes were horribly disfiguring. Painful, yes, but obviously very carefully aimed at inflicting the most amount of pain for the least amount of damage.
