Think her past was like? I'm thinking of starting a fic about Faith's backstory and I would like to get a bit perspective.

Do you think she had a seemingly normal childhood? Cause I heard her mother was an alcoholic in the episode she reveal she was working for the Mayor. I mean did it seem like she had a normal childhood from the perspective of a passer by and her mother's alcoholism was kept under wrapps?

Or do you think her childhood was a complete hell for her?

I'm betting it may have been a hell hood for her. Poor girl never did get her dog! (im very weird, btw)

i'm also writing a fan fic with faiths back history, in my fic she an extrememly unhappy childhood.
Personally looking at her character and her lack of understanding or fear of love, i would say she probably had an abusive childhood, and the way she doesnt seem to trust men, there may have been sexual abuse.
Please could you link your story once you are done? Or email it to me, thanks

I think she may have lived with an alcoholic mother, who brought home guy after guy, and when she was little she sometimes got attatched to some of them, and then they just left. Which could be the reason she doesn't seem to trust men, and maybe the reason she and the Mayor got so close.

thats a very good point, i never saw it that way to be honest. Theres so many possibilities for her distrust of men. Actually if you think about it, its not really single-ing out men, she just has a general distrust of everyone in general. Although i think she was quite open to buffy in the earlier days, very caring (eg the whole scott thing)
Its funny though, after all thats happened, in the end i feel she was much more comfortable around men than women. eg Angel, wesley, Gunn, Lorne, she looked like she was at home with them in season 4, much more comfortable then she's ever been on buffy (including the s7 days, which is a shame cos i'm a huge fuffy shipper!) like they were family almost. I really could have seen her as a regular on angel.

Can i just ask, will your fic contain any romantic pairings?

Obviously, the alcholic mother played a big part in Faith's life.
Im guessing that Faith longed to get close to her mother, but she just wasnt there for her (not that she was a COMPLETELY horrible person, she just didnt have time for her)
Either an abusive or absent father (even if he was absusive, Im guessing he probably would've run off when Faith was young, around 3, 4 or 5...
Faith was someone who had very little friends, especially at the beginning of her life...
But Im just guessing here, lol...

I was going to write a fic for a challenge on the subject of Faith's past. Heres some ideas I threw around in my head:

Faiths mom is an uncarring alcholic, however the twist is, shes an ex Watcher.

Faith gets a Watcher on her fifteenth birthday say, a nice attractive watcher who she sleeps with to be rebellious (or Faith can be older if you're worried about the whole underage thing, but she was consenting)

She gets another Watcher after the watcher's council find out about their whole torred (sp?) affair, who is the one who eventually dies.

And I always had a thought in my head of Faith walking in the snow, kinda depressed.

oh thats such a shame you didnt write it, just from what you'v told me i know i would have been hooked!

Wow, I had not seem it that way!

Such a clever idea! I'd like to see what it would be like.

To me :

Faith had to stand up for herself when she was very very young, everywhere & she had no choices, like she couldn't go in school for long.

Her mom beat her, & brought mant men to the house, some tried to rape her, one did.

Her first watcher was very nice, like the mom she never had, & kakistos killed her in a horrible way, trying to blackmail Faith with the watcher's life at stake so that Faith would be his lapdog.

She had a disastrous realtion with an older guy who used her & who traumatized her, hence her behavior now with guy (+ the men who tried to rape her)

At least it's what I wrote about in my story.

I think Faith's mother was an alcoholic and had passed away. I think she mentioned that at some point. Her father had been abusive and she lived in torment for years of him. I think in Boston, she was kind of weak in a way. Scared for her life. She acts tougher than she really is. She tries to hide behind this "tough-as-nails" exterior with people, and based on being raped as a child she has no boundries sexually or with violence.

We know next to nothing for sure.

* Erm. She's from Boston.

* Her mother was an alcoholic. She didn't get Faith a puppy, but it's important to note that she did take the time to give her daughter an affectionate nickname. Since Faith also mentioned jumping into a quarry lake, its safe to assume that Mrs. Faithsington either had little interest, or little control. Mommy's now dead. Never mentioned a dad. It's implied that he was either absent, or somebody new from week to week. She does have something of a parent related obsession. In This Year's Girl, not only do we see that her most treasured dream is just a picnic with the Mayor, but that's not all. In many ways, Buffy's the only one who gets Faith. In many others, she doesn't get her at all. She knows Faith is going to go after whats most important in the world to Buffy. Buffy assumes that Faith would consider that to be Riley. Faith, without hesitation, goes after the person she'd consider the most precious of all. And that's- who else?- Buffy's mom.

* Faith has an in depth knowledge of S&M, right down to safety words and what could be interpreted as autoerotic asphyxiation. I consider the following scene to be yet another S7 continuity blunder, but lets run with it just for the sake of interest. She tells Spike about the guy-with-the-Bullwhip (GWTB) and the role play. Now, Faith has been in prison for nearly three years by this point. Before that, she was in a coma for 8 months, sending us back to season three BVTS, when Buffy was turning 18, and Faith was younger. Which means that Faith was engaging in hardcore bullwhip-and-all S&M when she was at the very most, 17 years old.

* As one of my IMDB buddies pointed out, despite Faith's demeanor and attitude, she never actually said she came from a poor background. For all we know, she's from a well off family and she's just a runaway with rock chick aspirations. However, she does give the distinct impression that she was quite capable of kicking various forms of ass long before the slayer thing came along. It's been argued, but never solidly, she was indeed in a gang.

Her stories about the preacher and the gator wrasslin' could well have been made up to impress the Scoobies. For all we know, Faith isn't even her real name. Nothing she says, or in many cases, does, can be taken at face value, so it's very hard to know for sure.

She's extremely reluctant to talk about her past. She only willingly does so twice, once when she's sure that Buffy is about to kick it, and the other time in her last conversation with the Mayor, when she totally trusts him. Which would suggest that she either did something, or had something done to her that would undermine the rock bitch image she works so hard to maintain. Her obsession with control and domination is generally put down to being her way of reversing/ avenging whatever trauma was inflicted on her. I've heard some well made arguments to the effect that Faith's attitude to both men and sex are evidence that she was raped at some point. Despite her attitude to sex, I don't agree that this was the intended interpretation. To Faith, Sex and Violence are interchangeable, so for her, being unable to prevent the death of her watcher at the... em.. hooves of Kakistos, and rape could have an equivalant effect. As for her distrust of men- She doesn't trust them. Yeah, but she doesn't really trust anybody except parent substitutes (Her previous watcher, Gwendolyn Post, the Mayor, and eventually Angel) Her attitude towards them is an extension of her need to be ...erm... on top, both in slaying and laying.
