Hey everyone i have a question. Can i use a singer's face for fanfic cover with buffy and cast leaglly or do i need their permission? i am just asking becouse i dont want too do anything illegal or cause problems.

I'm not sure about that as well and would like to know too. For sure you'd have to make a disclaimer which states that it's a photo manipulation, the basic material isn't yours and that you're not making any money from it.

If you make a caricature that looks like or looks nothing like what the person looks like you'd need to state who it is meant to be, so permission from that person in necessary. Photographs definitely. What is the content? If it involves writing by you get it read and corrected.
A disclaimer is good, but they are not always accepted, try to get all permissions in writing, preferably signed and with the name of the signing person.
Just think of it like this, that you make a living from your job and your looks. Then some person tries to make money from your looks, would you want a cut?

True i get that. But what if im writing it just for fun like kind of a dream casting where no money is involved

I think it depends if you're going to get any financial gain from the product.....

If you get no financial gain from it then a disclaimer is usually all that's needed. Depending on where the image has come from, some may not let you use that image for any fanwork.
