What Fandom do you dislike that people assume you would like because of other fandoms you like?

For me it is lord of the rings. I'm not a fan at all but people assume hey he likes buffy, smallville, harry potter etc. he must like lord of the rings.

Reason for this post, just had a coworker ask me what the big orc guys name was in the first one. When I said I didnt know his response was "you have a superman mug and tie today and you dont know, come on"

I wanted to throw the mug at him and scream supermam has nothing to do with lord of the rings but I love my mug too much

lol! wish you'd thrown
People sometimes think I'm into flight of the conchords 'cause I like a lot of indie films. I'm not. It's very far from my sense of humour, the few times I've seen it I haven't enjoyed it 🙂 Other than that I can't think of anything.

I'm sure I would, but I've seen one of the movies and I couldn't even sit through it
The one I get a lot is that I obviously love all things vampires and horror because I like Buffy. When in reality, vampires actually put me off shows/films/books and horror is actually my least favourite genre. I avoid it at all costs.

all other vampire stories and superheros. I'm not a big superhero person. After I watched Smallville, my friends tried to make me watch some other Superman stuff... I hated it. And because I love Smallville, other's just assume I like Superman... and other superheros... but I don't.

oh and Harry Potter. People assume I like Harry Potter... but I just don't care about it. I don't dislike it, but I don't care.

And to a lesser extent, Star Wars. Like my aunts in Arkansas when I was just down there... I was telling them I was going to Dragon Con and they were like "I bet you watch every Star Wars movie like all the time." And I'm like "uh.. no..." and then they're like *confused face*

lol! You'd be a cute star wars geek though ;)
I don't have any, infact it's the other way around for me. People are always surprised that I like Glee, Buffy, Star Trek and Desperate Housewives for some reason. Must not seem like the type to watch those kind of shows.

The Vampire Diaries people assume I like it I'm like uhhh no...

Oh and Gossip Girl, because I love OTH. But I dont watch GG so I dont dislike it I just dont watch it.

I remember my mom trying to sell charmed to me when it first came out saying it was just like Buffy, I was adamant it was a rip off and refused to watch it. Though as the years went on I have watched it since and enjoyed it.

Twilight and True Blood since I'm a Buffy fan. I can't stand Twilight, and I do watch True Blood, but I'm not a huge fan (I kind of make myself watch, but I like it much less than the books, which I do like a lot). Also, not a big Harry Potter fan. It's not that I don't like it, I just haven't read the books nor watched much of the movies. My 4 year old is expressing interest so I think we'll start watching (I swear he's going to be my big geek LOL!).

Oh, and before now, Doctor Who. Although now I'm starting to get into it. And Torchwood- huuuuge Torchwood fan!

Any anime. I do enjoy a lot of anime, such as Negima!, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star and Karin. But that doesn't mean I pick up a show just because it's anime... I pick it up because it's good. A lot of anime shows, including those illustrated above, just match my humor perfectly- somehow random and witty both.

I hate it when people assume I'm an otaku... I'm not... I just think certain shows are really good.

People assume I like Greys Anatomy because I watch House. Apparently people don't see that Greys Anatomy isn't a doctor show. It is a soap opera with medicine in the background.

I hear a lot of True Blood because of the Buffy connection. The Vampire Diaries as well, but not as much as True Blood. Also I hear Supernatural every now and then as well.

None of them have ever really appealed to me, although I do have the True Blood Season 1 boxset sitting at home somewhere waiting to be watched...

Well before I watched True Blood people just assumed because of The Vampire Diaries since I LOVE that. Now I do so all is good.

Fringe and Supernatural are other ones. I do plan on watching both all the way soon just haven't yet people are shocked by that one. I think it is because I love all the actors and always watch their other stuff. I think it is also because I watch Roswell, Angel and all those other supernatural shows as well.

All "teen" shows because I watch Dawson's Creek, The OC, One Tree Hill and more. I do watch some and try to give them chances but yes I don't watch them all just most 😛

Smallville I started partly for Tom and ended up loving it but one person just started bombarding me with all these questions about other things I am like nope don't watch those. Lately I have watched all the superhero movies.

I don't blame people though for thinking I watch certain shows because I do watch way to much lol.

I just started watching Fringe. It is addicting
Yup, people assume I'm a LoTR fan because I like HP and similar stuff. Even when I say I like Narnia people ask me "So you like LoTR too?" and I'm like "Where's the connection?"

Also, all the people I know think I love Twilight. And when I say I don't like it, they're like "But you love Buffy.. and you watched True Blood, and you always say you want to watch TVD.." And my expression would be like -.-"""""""""""""""""""""""

And the weirdest thing is, people think I like Christina because I like Britney. "They're totally the same".. and I'm like "Um.. NO!" 😵

I'm a very, very big fan of heavy metal band Iron Maiden. And because of that fact people always assume that I'm a fan of all kinds of metal music.
Well, I'm really not.
There are some metal bands that I really like, but except of Iron Maiden I hardly listen to that kind of music.
I mostly listen to hard rock or blues rock and also jazz and funk. Iron Maiden are really an exception.

This... People assume because I love BtVS and "Angel" that I'm also a huge fan of "The Vampire Diaries", "True Blood", "Supernatural", and other shows like it. I didn't originally get into BtVS because of the vampires; I got into it for the characters themselves. I am drawn to things because of the story and characters; vampires are the last thing that matters when I look at a new story to watch or get into.

A lot of people think that I must like Christian and Country music since I'm from Texas (neither of which I do). People are really surprised to learn that I like shows like Buffy, Dexter, superhero movies, Lord of the Rings etc because they don't think I fit the sci-fi/geek profile.

Twilight (I did watch the first movie on TV though, if only for mocking it - it served me well in that regard 😉), and Supernatural. I tried giving SN a chance, really did... but I got so bored after three eps that I couldn't bring myself to watch on.

Oh, and all kinds of Metal music. Apparently, people see some connection between that and roleplaying games. Like, WTF? ???

EDIT: @ TYG's comment... yeah, half the dudes I played Pen&Paper with back in the days were Metalheads, too. But I still don't see how one is supposed to inform the other... 😉

Lol, I can see people connceting roleplaying and metal. A lot of people I know who roleplay listens to it. :)

I don't avoid it at all cost but I certainly don't go looking for it. I don't watch Buffy and Angel because I like vampires. I don't really care how the shows describe vampires and how it compares to others. Maybe that's why i don't care if vampires sparke or can be in the sun in other stories. That's not what make Whedons shows great. They just happen to have vampire in them. If anything having vampire in the title nearly made me stay away from watching Buffy.

Some horror/scary movies might be well worth watching but as a genre it's way down on my list.

I'm a very, very big fan of heavy metal band Iron Maiden. And because of that fact people always assume that I'm a fan of all kinds of metal music.
Well, I'm really not.
I've had that too and it's mostly about metal. I listen to everything and nothing and it never has anything to do with genre. Some bands/artists or even just random songs I can love/like but you can never make the assumption that I'll like something similar.

Supernatural. I tried giving SN a chance, really did... but I got so bored after three eps that I couldn't bring myself to watch on. 😉

It took me well into season 2 before I started to really enjoy the show. That's when the humour started coming in and it not being just a horror show. If not loads of people had told me it got better I'd never continued to watch.

People assume that because I'm a huge reader, I must read the Twilight series. No, I haven't read those books. Not interested. I've been there with the whole human/vampire love story with Buffy/Angel. As they say: been there, done that, bought the t-shirt [and yes, I actually did have a B/A shirt at one point].
