Fanfiction Crossovers

Sometimes.... for me it depends what they are crossed over with. (love the BTVS/ATS crossovers though, lol 😉 ). I've read a few here and there, I think it's interesting to see how authors put the two fandoms together, and the interactions between all the characters.
 
I love crossovers. All kinds. I love anything with a B/A 'ship, but I will read others. Some of my favorite types of crossovers are:

BTVS/LOTR
BTVS/HP
BTVS/Anita Blake
BTVS/X-Men
and many others that I enjoy.

Hmm, I'm not a huge fan of fanfictons at all.. Don't get me wrong, they can be great, but I think that it takes a really great author to make it work... especially with crossovers, which I'm pretty critical towards..
 
Yeah, I love fanfic but I refuse to read stories that aren't well thought out before hand and therefore well written and I absolutely hate people who don't use punctuation marks. Especially when they don't put quotation marks around dialogue. Nothing will turn me off a fic faster.

Possibly being a bit harsh here...quotation marks aren't the only recognised way of showing dialogue...my (admittedly failing) memory tells me that the French way of writing speech doesn't always use them.I'm being a bit of a devil's advocate here btw 'cos I prefer to use them. I'm sure I've also seen something like -
-What do you mean?
-You know exactly what I mean!
to indicate dialogue, which doesn't bother me overmuch 🙂
 
^ Heh yea I was just going to say that... There are many ways of writing dialogue, even though those two are the most common ones..

I actually love it when athors have a special language or their own way of writing.. I mean as long as it is intentional to write this or that way, I'm not bothered by grammar or such... Again: as long as it's not just 'caues the author lazy or doesn't care...
 
I like Buffy/Charmed crossovers...but because the shows, whilsts having common ground essential for a crossover, are very different you have to have someone who knows what they're doing writing them.

I have written a few crossovers, I couldn't say if i succeeded or not, you'd have to ask some who'd read them, but I tried! ::huh1::

I have no problem if they use some other mark to show dialogue or if they use italics or bold face print. What I was complaining about was:

EX: Giles walks into the magic box. How are you today Anya he asks. Fine.

I have seen some writings like this and I can't help it that I get a little annoyed...
 
I work at VirtualSlayer and we run two virtual seasons, one of Angel and one of Buffy, and it's incredibly fun to be allowed to mix the two fandoms up, but I should say that you shouldn't mix just for the sake of having a cross-over, cause that usually doesn't work; it's all about having a story that calls for it.
 
I agree, but for entertainment purposes, its fun to read things that could never happen. But when the author is good, the fic can be totally believable and that is what I love about them.
 
Yeah, I agree. What I mean to say is that the crossover itself shouldn't be the basic story. The premise should be something like a mutant gets biten by a vamp and Buffy and Wolverine have to team up to beat him, rather than having the premise be Buffy and Wolverine team up... There has to be a story to it.
