To still a scoobie: remember, JK wrote these books without a penny to her name, on the back of a napkin! i dont think money has anything to do with anything. She writes these books and helps on the movies because she loves it.

I think if money was not a consideration, the movies would never have existed. I'm not saying they were a bad idea on paper but they didn't work for me and everything about them was a cash-in, as are the upcoming films. Not necessarily a cash-in by Rowling - as I tried to make clear before, what actually annoys me about her is her comments on the series - but by others with a stake in it. It just grates on me.

I just don't understand the difference between this and every other movie out there though? Aren't all movies for money purposes somewhere down the line? I don't think it's as simple as a cash in vs pleasing the public. There obviously has to be a bit of both, or else the entertainment industry would not exist.

Yep, absolutely, there has to be a balance. I personally feel the balance was some way out, though.
