I tried watching the first episode but couldn't get through more than 10 minutes. Can I jump in somewhere and it's better?

Honestly, if you can't make it through the pilot episode then it probably isn't for you. No shade though, I had the same experience with Yellowstone and that's (apparently) a great show.

First episodes and first seasons are often difficult, because shows are finding their way. Characters in initial episodes can seem totally different when you come back to them later, and not so much due to character growth as being portrayed differently.

To be perfectly honest, I think you'll enjoy the show a lot more if you know the characters. Basically, all you need to know is John was testing his module, Farscape One (aka "the white deathpod"), and the initial plan was to try a slingshot maneuver (using a planet's gravity to add momentum/speed). But he unexpectedly encountered a wormhole, and was flung into another galaxy. John and his childhood friend, DK, are scientists who are responsible for the Farscape project. John's dad is a famous astronaut (Kent McCord from the old TV series Adam 12) and John's hero.
He ends up crashing into a prowler upon arrival, killing the pilot (Tavlo Crais, younger brother of Captain Bialar Crais). John ends up being pursued by Captain Crais throughout season one, since he's convinced John intentionally killed Tavlo
Once on Moya, he's "inspected" by the escaped prisoners who are already onboard. Pilot informs everyone that another prowler is pursuing them, so he blocks it's radio and nets it. That prowler pilot is the radiant Aeryn Sun, by the way. She ignores the order to disengage and continues chasing Moya. When they go into starburst, her prowler is trapped in the wake.
Captain Crais is determined to find John, and ignores High Command's order to stop the pursuit. Moya escapes the Command Carrier with a slingshot remover, Aeryn at the helm. They escape (for the moment) and visit a commerce planet for supplies. Unfortunately, Crais finds them and locks them up. He makes it pretty clear that he's going to kill John, but Aeryn tells him that John has neither the courage or training to purposely attack a prowler. Crais then accuses her of being "irreversibly contaminated" by this alien (John) and she's also shackled. When a Peacekeeper has that label, they're pretty much dead to everyone they've ever known.
They manage to escape with D'Argo, and John convinces Aeryn to come with them. She was confused and panicked, saying that being a Peacekeeper is all she knows. He tells her, "You can be more."
Anyway, that's how the story opens. We have a biomechanoid ship with a young, moody Pilot at the helm. The others are a 9th level Delvian priestess, a relatively young Luxan warrior, a Hynerian whose throne was stolen from him by his cousin, and John, the lost man from Earth.
Everyone wants to go home (except Aeryn, since shes pretty much banished from the Peacekeeper world). No one trusts anyone else, and they're willing to do almost ANYTHING to go back to their old lives. Even when they begin to relax around one another, there's always the possibility of betrayal.
But eventually they become almost like family
It's important that you know who is who in this series....it makes it more enjoyable. That's why I recommend you start with Durka Returns....it introduces Chiana, who definitely adds a lot to the mix. Granted, season one is mostly filler, but it's absolutely worth watching.
Holy crap, I wrote all of that like I was writing about my own life. I just relived the entire series in my head. ๐ It's my FAVOURITE show of all time, and honestly, no one knows it like I do. (Well, except for Rockne O'Bannon, Brian Henson, the writers, the cast, etc) I was even at the first Farscape convention back in the summer of 2000. So long ago!
Farscape and Angel are the only shows I've internalised. I love them so much, it's hard to explain. Fairly certain this is probably the longest post I've ever made here!

Season 1 is the foundation for the great character relationships; the near perfect John & Aeryn romance, the John & D'Argo eventual bromance (and the first time I encountered slash fics in a fandom), the selfish (adorable) toad Rygel, even the lil' drd's running about are ace.
I would recommend Throne For A Loss being a pretty good episode for action and character dynamics, PK Tech Girl also- plus that nicely foreshadows Durka's Return
The Flax and A Human Reaction are great for John/Aeryn goodness, I ship the hell out of them, the perfect space romance where two very different people learn strength from each other

The show is basically about family....how people in extraordinary circumstances can become allies, friends, even lovers. You've got a rather immature and hot headed Luxan, a Delvian priestess hiding a murderous secret, a greedy Hynerian royal who's used to being obeyed all the time, an ill-tempered Peacekeeper pilot used to following orders, a smart, sexy, obnoxious teenage girl who listens to NO ONE most of the time, and a scientist who is completely lost in this universe he ended up in. Of course, this sounds like a recipe for disaster, but every family is a bit unique, right?
its lovely how everyone eventually came to love one another. But despite that, Rygel and Chiana were still the wild cards. Both of them were VERY impulsive, and don't hesitate to live "in the moment." Like Rygel abandoning Moya in Family Ties; he surrenders himself to Scorpy and Crais, thinking that if he gave them information about John, he'd be allowed to live. Or Rygel and Chiana looking for something to steal in A Bugs Life...their greed and curiosity directly causes an intellant virus to be wreak havoc...

Crais worked so much better as the Anti hero on his own rather than the out right villain as in S1. Scorpius was so much better in that role
