I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree then. I just can't see how depriving your body of food so that it breaks down your muscles in order to get glycogen because you're not providing any glucose yourself could be a good thing. Then again, I'm atheist and plain and simple can't understand why people would believe in god or religions at all, so where you're probably approaching this from a spiritual side, I'm probably looking at it from a more scientific side. If that makes sense.
I approach it from both sides. The benefits of it are actually scientifically proven. You could ask any doctor about it. There's a careless way to do it that is very unhealthy, but if you take the vitamins that your body requires and keep yourself hydrated then it really does do wonders. I did kinda list them a bunch of them in my post before this, but aw well.
I have no idea what the ratio of fat compared to muscle actually gets broken down, but I've know people who've done it for a week at a time without any noticable harm. Usually once I've finished and I start eating again I start off with something low in fat, but high in protein and then do some light muscle building exercises. Granted the longest I've done it in the past has only been for three days, but I've never noticed any muscle loss so I don't believe it's all that significant of a loss.
As far you you not understanding why people believe in God, that's cool. I really don't understand how people could not believe. Some explosion created the universe and it all just happed to work out that we got to this point without any kind of help. Our bodies alone are insanely complex and they just happened. Like magic only not, because as an atheist you don't believe in it. It's odd, I was an atheist for most of my life and I really believed it to be rational and it made sense to me, but now I can't even understand my own reasoning behind. The idea that life as it is, is all because of a huge string of random events is such a leap.

Yes i don't get the whole fasting thing, wouldn't that cause you to over eat?
I don't think i could do that. After a few days i'd be like AH /eats everything in the house.
mmm.
Not in my experience. My issues with over-eating had to do with boredom and to get that little burst of endorphins you get from eating. If I was just sitting around and I had something tasty around I would just think about it non-stop until I ate some. Fasting has been really good about teaching me self-control.
It takes some will power the first couple days, but after you get over that hump it's quite easy. I'm on day three right now and I'm feeling really good. Not really hungry at all. And there's an odd calmness that I at least start to feel. It's quite nice.
