Fat shaming continues

An aquarium in California has apologized for some joking tweets made about an otter's weight. People complained the aquarium was body-shaming and setting a bad example by saying the otter was a 'thick girl'.

I don't see how that is fat shaming. Look at all the posts on Twitter & Tumblr praising "thicc" celebrities & models. It's usually seen as a compliment.

Those folk doing the complaining how thick are they? If they classify thick and thicc as the same. I'd suggest those complaining are thick as the little otters gain weight to protect them from the approaching cold.
Which fits as there has been a marked increase in water temperature in the northern oceans, positive indication of a soon to be ice-age.

Because that term is usually directed to African-American women, and it's not often used when comparing an overweight sea creature to a black woman.

But seriously, they made it clear they were using popular memes to make fun of the otter but that the otter was totally healthy and normal sized. Good on them for acknowledging that several of the terms they used came from AAVE and that they didn't know that and meant no harm by it. As far as public apologies go for this type of thing they did a good job.
