Okay, so we all have our favorite characters from Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and other television shows, but what are some of your favorite characters from literature and movies? I'll only tease you a little if you say Edward. =P
Here are some of mine:
1. Heathcliff, Wuthering Heights - He's tall, dark, handsome, unscrupulous and a little evil, and I just can't deny his appeal. I hated the book the first time I read it, but I gave it another try a few months ago, and I've been hooked on Heathcliff since. He's passionate and fiercely loyal, as long as your name happens to be Catherine Earnshaw, and his unending love for her makes him an incredibly romantic, if twisted, figure.
Favorite quote: "Be with me always–take any form–drive me mad! Only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! it is unutterable! I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!"
2. The Mad Hatter, Alice in Wonderland - Okay, I admit this one was helped out by Tim Burton's remake and the Syfy miniseries Alice (though I also really liked him in the book), but I've found myself falling a little in love with the Hatter as of late. He's mad, of course, but I can't deny he's got a certain charm. Very interesting character, all around, and I love seeing all the different versions of him writers come up with.
Favorite quote: "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"
3. Danny Archer, Blood Diamond - I always love Mr. DiCaprio, but I think this character is one of his best. Sexy, tough, damaged, and walking a very fine line between good and evil, he's such an intriguing character to watch. I couldn't figure out his motives or his true plan up until the very end of the movie, which I liked. And y'know, he's also insanely good-looking, and that helps.
Favorite quote: "Sometimes I wonder... will God ever forgive us for what we've done to each other? Then I look around and I realize, God left this place a long time ago."
4. Cal Trask, East of Eden (the movie): First, I must express how much I love James Dean. Beautiful man, beautiful actor, and taken from the world way, way too soon. As Cal Trask he's everything he became famous for being: Rebellious, wounded, charming and devastatingly handsome. His acting is so incredible in this film, and Cal instantly became my favorite over his proper older brother Adam. He's a lost boy continually searching for the approval of his father, and he plays it perfectly, possibly because he'd had similar experiences in his life. Great movie, classic character.
Favorite quote (This one isn't from him, but it's about him): "Mr. Trask, it's awful not to be loved. It's the worst thing in the world. Don't ask me - even if you could - how I know that. I just know it. It makes you mean, and violent, and cruel. And that's the way Cal has always felt, Mr. Trask. All his life! Maybe you didn't mean it that way - but it's true. You never gave him your love. You never asked for his. You never asked him for one thing."
