Suprise/Innocence deffiently. It is was of my favorite episodes aswell, me being a huge Bangel fanatic 🙂
 
I was tempted to pick "Older and Far Away," but really, in Surprise/Innocence, the show stepped up several notches and became the BtVS that we know and love.

This is probably unpopular, but I voted for A New Man. 😀 Because honestly, of all the birthdays Buffy's celebrated, that one's (relatively speaking) the least disastrous. And we all know how rare that is! Plus it's absolutely hilarious. I love Giles as a Fyarl demon. 😉

Though I have a weak spot for Helpless too, it's very emotionally powerful and Older and far away has its comical aspects.
 
As much as I love "Surprise," "Older and Far Away" got my vote because it was a fun episode with great comedy, and I think birthdays should be all about that. 🙂

Surprise/Innocence is my fave. It's probably the worst one for Buffy, but the most epic in terms of episodes. It's REALLY closely followed by A New Man though... I LOVE that episode.
 
I voted for Helpless as I love the Giles/Buffy interaction. Plus it was a big turning point for both Giles and Buffy in terms of turning their backs on the Watcher's Council.
 
I voted for older and far away, because I think it was the best episode out of those. But it was a difficult choice, surprise/innocence obviously also very good, A new man is really good, but its more centered on giles than buffy in that episode. Helpless, also very good. Blood ties, good, but difficult to separate individual episodes in season 5 as its the series as a whole that works well.
 
I chose Surprise/Innocence. I enjoyed A New Man but it wasn't really about Buffy's birthday, its about Giles becoming a demon.

Two of the worst: Older and Far Away and Helpless.
