Favorite Character Development from both B:TVS and A:TS

What are your favorite character developments from both B:tVS and A:TS? For me it's

Faith
Wesley
Fred
Cordelia
Willow

Especially Faith, Cordy and Wesley's

I love how Cordy turned from this shallow dumb teenager with no mind of her own to this humble, down to Earth protecting the greator good. Then we have Faith who was at first a troubled child with super powers to boot but was seduced by the Mayor on her way to becoming a Murderer or have the Watchers call it a "Rogue Slayer"

Now we have Wesley who was when we first met him in "Bad Girls", a bumbling drooling idiot who had no idea what the hell he was doing being Buffy and Faith's watcher then when he joined Angel Investigations he grew a pair, was a better and an amazing fighter (even better than Angel sometimes) and turned to a very dark route.

Definately Wesley. In season 3 of btvs, he is a detached, by the book, young, watcher. Although alot of people disliked him in buffy, I found myself defending him pretty much: he said things people were too afraid to say. Really, he was everything a watcher should be, but the slayers, Faith and Buffy, were quite lousy slayers at the end of season 3. I think that made him always feel the need to prove himself to others, he wasn't some idiot, he never was. To say, in Choices, that maybe we need to talk about this, and perhaps, your friend isn't worth the lives of 100+ people. As horrible as it sounds, Wesley did have a point, he always has a point. People always say that Wesley was a victim of bad luck in ATS, but he was also in BTVS.

Although he was quite naive and scared, and in ATS, he found conviction, strength, etc and more badass than pretty much everyone on BTVS. Over the course, he becomes darker, events such as taking Connor, the death of Lilah, the possession of Cordelia, the death and destruction of Fred... he becomes such a wreck, yet in Not Fade Away, he says that 'the first lesson a watcher learns is to separate illusion from reality' and its just so incredible; he remained so strong, always wanting to fight for the cause, his conviction, in wanting to fight the fight is so... admirable. He is so fascinating, so brilliantly written and realised. His character development is subtle... some things are always the same with him, he does take everything seriously, everything from the Mayor's Ascension to Wolfram & Hart, yet he just got better, stronger, over the buffyverse. He is both a thinker and a warrior. Hardly any characters, can say that.


Okay, I gushed but I love Wesley. I love his story, I love his friendships with other people.

I have to go with Faith (no surprise there really). I adored her journey from good to bad to good. I loved the crossovers into Angel and back to Buffy and I loved her in every season she was in. Her growth and redemption was fantastic.

I love Faith and Darla's evolution, sorry but didnt really like Willow's character development even though I an a Willow fan generally

Just about all the Angel characters are going to be at the top of my list for this one.

Cordelia has my favorite character development of anyone on either show. She's right up there on my all time favorite character list. She becomes the absolute best friend you could ask for, and becomes just perfect for Angel, Wesley, Doyle, Gunn, Fred and Lorne.

Angel has incredible development. I liked him right from day one, but he's great on his own show as well, and by S5 he's just amazing.

[MENTION=12236]itssmiletime[/MENTION] outlined it brilliantly, but Wesley grows from a total goof into one of the most badass, interesting characters ever.

Gunn, Fred and Lorne all grow tremendously as well.

On BTVS, I've always thought Buffy was a complex, interesting character from the beginning all the way through.

Even though she doesn't have a huge arc, Dawn develops quite a bit into a really cool, nice girl in S7.

Faith -- consider that, at the present in the comics, she's arguably the most straightforwardly moral and heroic character in the series. Just think about how far that is from where she started the series.

It's not suprise that I'm also going to say Wesley, I mean wow, just wow, his character had the most bad ass transformation while still remaining believable.

In general I feel like a lot of the Angel's character had more drastic development, very few of them remain the "same" character by the end of the show. This is mostly noticeable for Fred, Cordelia and Angel in my opinion. In BtVS, even thought there was quite a bit of character development, it tend to be a bit more subtle. In Buffy my favorite character development would probably be Giles, considering his young days as the Ripper all the way to who he is in s7 where he becomes almost a mixture if Giles s1 and what I imagine what he was as Ripper (for example when he kills Ben).

I haven't gotten very far in the comics, once I finish, Faith will probably be up there too.

Cordelia. I think she had the most biggest character growth over 8 years and it was done so well.

@itssmile time,I LOVE YOU lol. I too have defended Wesley from the beginning. He is everything a great Watcher should be. Always willing to do the right thing no matter what the costs to himself. Always seeing the "BIGGER" picture of each and every single situation. He is my favorite character and i think the best progressed character of both shows along with Cordy. He exhibited both true humanity(fear) and inspiration as to what one can become given enough time (courageous),he is a true portrait of a hero,and Joss Whedon's best and most interesting tragic hero. ok,i guess i gushed a little too lol 😛

Thou I feel like in the Angel tv show the character development are deeper but darker for sure .

Cordelia up to the end of season 3 of Angel, including Your Welcome.

Wesley, through the various changes, watcher, rouge demon hunter, tortured by faith and still going against the council, taking charge of AI after Angel leaves, through all the Connor stuff, and into Wolfram and Hart.

Faith, from troubled teen, to the person Wesley goes to for help and the girl who will get the job done. Someone that others wanted to lead them

Angel, From cryptic guy in the shadows, to Buffy's boyfriend, then being Angelus and going to Hell, to coming back and fighting through what he had done. Leaving buffy going to LA, helping others, having friends of his own, a business. Through the time with Darla and him leaving his friends, having to win them back, realising how much Cordelia meant to him. Becoming a parent, and understanding what that meant, then going through grief and losing his child, losing Cordelia, and never really getting his son back. Before taking on Wolfram and Hart. Angel has had to deal with a lot and his emotions and feelings have become more and more alive.
