Probably my favorite comedian is Lewis Black with Steven Wright close behind, depending on mood.

Whose one that you consider your favorite?

Oh I have just seen this! Ahahahahahaha!
Firstly, I'd like to say, what an interesting and insightful topic! Wow.

Well, other than you, Mr. Pole, I'd say my favourite stand-up comedians definitely have varied and changed over the years. I do love Steven Wright too. I could listen to his voice for hours. The Americans that stick out for me are Andy Kaufman, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks and George Carlin - I watched them a lot growing up. Alternatively here in the UK, I enjoy Frankie Boyle, Jerry Sadowitz (even if he was born in New York), Simon Munnery (the Urban Warrior stuff was hilarious), Steve Coogan, Rik Mayall (when he did stand-up, same goes for Steve Coogan), Dylan Moran and Tommy Cooper.

My favourite recent, international and all time comedian is probably Stewart Lee, though. He's very observational, meta (!) and he's also kinda beautiful (to me, anyway. Sometimes, there's drool). His whole set up and style is to imply the audience aren't intelligent enough to understand the material and that they should be watching the mainstream UK comics. It works so well because he really is funny, and endearing.

What interests me about comedy is the shock factor. Jerry Sadowitz is a prime example of that, as is Frankie Boyle. People who go see their shows end up leaving feeling shocked and offended, full of complaints and that the comedians are not "politically correct". I find that laughable - a joke's a joke. It's supposed to shock and offend. It's their job. They don't have these opinions in real life, it's part of their act to get people interested and pay money to see them. Plus, you know, the offensive stuff is usually the funniest.

I'd go with Dylan Moran also and Adam Hills. Do Simon Pegg & Chris O'Dowd count? And Richard Ayoade. And Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. And Catherine Tate. Lol

George Carlin was always a great choice. And Rita Rudner had some excellent bits like:

"You should never have a digital clock in the bedroom where you make love. Because even in the height of passion I can still subtract. Especially if three of the numbers haven't changed."

"I think men who have a pierced ear are better prepared for marriage. They've experienced pain and bought jewelry."

George Carlin and John Oliver comes to mind. But I also like Bill Burr, Jim Gaffigan, Kathleen Madigan and Iliza Shlesinger. Oh and what's his face, eh... *goes to google* Marc Maron!

As far as stand-up goes, my favorite comedians are Bill Burr, Jim Jefferies, Craig Ferguson, and Louis CK. I've also seen some great specials by George Carlin and Bill Hicks, but I wouldn't call them favorites of mine, as I'm not really that familiar with their stuff.
From films and TV shows: Monty Python, Conan O'Brien, and Aubrey Plaza (her interviews are pure gold!).

Totally disregarding all irrelevant facts/accusations/suspicions, based strictly on his comedic skill, I would have to say Bill Cosby. To this day, I can't sit in a dentist's chair without having to suppress the urge to laugh, just thinking about his routine about having a tooth filled.
