Favorite episodes of season 4

First season I ever watched 🙂

Restless
Hush
This Years Girl/ Who Are You
Something Blue

Everyone hates Beer Bad 🙁 Right, so it's totally ridiculous, but hey ridiculous can be good and I love it. And CaveBuffy is adorable. Any other Beer Bad likers out there?

Everything I was going to say except it's not the first season I watched. I would just add Living Conditions because I think it's hilarious.

My turn to be surprised. Many people liked "Living Conditions". I'm surprised 'cause I like this episode too, and thought people didn't. And now I know I'm not a freak! 😀

I liked Living Conditions, too. Not my fav, nor do I think it's one of the best episodes of the series, but it was funny. I really liked Kathy, I kind of wanted to see her as an occasional returning character.

Kathy started out good for me, then when she started turning on Buffy... But for a demon she was pretty human, in a stragne kind of way.

It's funny. S4 is usually at the bottom of my lists of favourite seasons, but when I'm watching it I enjoy it. It's because when someone asks about favourite seasons, your mind turns to the season arc - and Maggie, Riley, Adam, college, the Initiative... all pretty lame, right? But the redeeming factor of S4 are the one-offs. S4 is about episodes. Could we reel off top-threes and bottom-threes so readily for S5 or S7 (or AtS S4 for that matter) which are so arc-heavy?

So - collection of 22 episodes? S4 is a great season. Extended year-long epic? A huge let-down after S3.

Favourites: New Moon Rising, Hush, restless, Primeval

Least favourite: The Initiative (Willow smiling and encouraging Spike's attempts to kill her for the sake of cheap impotence joke, Xander is a big useless wuss...just the show I always wanted. Not!), Pangs (JE suddenly deciding BtVS is a sitcom, so it's okay for oeveryone to be OOC for the sake of humor), Living Conditions.

Agree. It's something. Season 4 is not that good, but it's always the season I enjoy the most. It's also the funniest.

Most favourite
Who are you/This year's girl definitely come first!Amazing performances by both actresses!
Hush
Pangs/The Yoko Factor

Least favourite

Superstar
Where the wild things are(I am not sure about the purpose of this episode...it seemed meaningless to me!)
can't remember a third least favourite!

I like season 4! In fact I believe it's funny and light hearted just like "Buffy" has to be sometimes. It shows Buffy's difficulties with college, problems with friends and a new relationship(but Angel is still there somewhere!).

Agreed on this years girl and who are you. Sarah as Faith was just brilliant.
My favourites:
Hush (simply a masterpiece)
The Yoko Factor (really enjoyable episode)
And, sadly I can't remember the exact episode but whatever one it is that Spike is pretending to be an American to Riley so he wont think he is the escaped hostile and is saying stuff like "Oh no am just an old pal of Xander's" gets me every time. Hillarious.

I think that's in "Doomed" 🙂

(1) Fear, Itself; Hush; Pangs
(2) Superstar; Where The Wild Things Are; Goodbye Iowa
(3) Beer Bad: Neandertal Buffy rocks. As I've said elsewhere here, Beer Bad is the only ep that shows us that even if we made her Neanderthal Buffy, she'd still have the heart to save people (i.e., unlike the mass of our humanity, strip away that thin veneer of civilization and she is still who she is). I otherwise sometimes spin around in the one chair in commemoration of Neandertal Buffy.
(4) Some call him Spike, but I call him Hostile 17. He's William after he gets his soul.

LOL, chair-spinning karma!

I definitely agree about Neandertal Buffy! We can also see how much potential Sarah has as an actress...I laughed my ass off!!!
Living Conditions is my least favorite Buffy episode, like ever. It's just ridiculous. And there are just way too many in season 4 that I LOVE for me to be able to pick a favorite. So, yeah. Can't choose! But I love all the one's with Willow and Tara. Plus, I love Beer Bad and the Initiative. 🙂

I gotta say Hush. I haven't watched Restless in a long while, so I don't remember how much I liked it. Other than Hush I like Something Blue and Doomed (just because it has Spike in a Hawaiian shirt 😀) Oh, and The Initiative. Gotta love Spike and Willow's conversation.

Favourite Episodes:

1. Restless - Joss reaches new heights in this ambitious, bizarre and beautifully directed episode. Surely the best of the series thus far.
2. Hush - The Gentlemen rocked. And it's easy to see why this original, scary and funny episode was nominated for an Emmy.
3. Who Are You - The body-switch is another risky idea Joss undertook this season and it really paid off with a fascinating insight to Faith.
4. The Yoko Factor - The foundations of the group really start to crack here. A great pay-off to all the distancing between the Scoobs over S4.
5. Fear, Itself - The best Halloween themed episode of the series.

Least Favourite Episodes:

1. Beer Bad - I don't hate this episode as much as some, but the college guys are lame enough when they're sobre, and worse once they turn into all-out cavemen. It's just too silly to take seriously. The episode does have a couple of cool moments though, such as Willow and Parker's scenes together (and Buffy ripping that sandwich away from the student in her lecture -LOL).
2. Doomed - Hated the lame, lame apocalypse plot here. It didn't make any sense and felt totally unnecessary. Spike saves this from being a total disaster.
3. Goodbye Iowa - Adam enters and immediately the Initiative is less interesting. Just goes to show what a mistake offing Walsh was.
4. Where the Wild Things Are - This episode cops a lot of flack, and while it's heavy-handed in parts, complete with stupid-looking evil plants, and certainly not one of the season's finest hours, episode has a lot to recommend it as well. I think a lot of the time people overlook the good aspects of this episode - the interaction with the Scoobies, and Spike/Anya, Giles' singing, and even aspects of the MOTW storyline interested me, such as Kathryn Joosten's guest performance and the "orgasm wall" (you can't deny that it's original). I used to hate this episode a whole lot but it's really grown on me.
5. Superstar - An interesting experiment that doesn't wildly succeed like some of the other quirky, unique eps of the season (see top 3 faves for example) but is still quite fun. Just not one of the best.

Naming 5 least favourites is hard. I don't passionately hate any Season 4 eps.

Top 5 would probably look like:

-Pangs: I love everything about this episode. The argument over how to fight the Chumash and make dinner, Spike tied to a chair riddled with arrows, Angel coming back and kicking some ass...I love this episode.

-Wild At Heart: Oz and Willow come to an end. Willow once again shows just why she is the most real of people on the show in her tears...

-Something Blue: Willow's grief takes its toll on the gang in unusual ways, often reaching ridiculousness and it's all good. I like, no prefer, when the show goes down that comedy road.

-New Moon Rising: Oz returns, Tara is chased yet again, and the final scene with her and Willow is just perfection.

-The Yoko Factor: Angel returns and hands Riley's ass to him, but at the same time approves of him with Buffy. The gang gets into my favorite argument with a drunken Giles at the center of it all, and it's just awesome.

I don't really have any 'bottom five' episodes. These five just stand out as personal favorites.
