Ok I know in real life it's more complicated than categorizing films into one single genre, but what is your favorite kind?? Most great movies have an overlap of several genres but still can be labelled as being mostly one type.

Now, for the hard part: rank them from favorite to least favorite! Assume that you are only considering the best of the best (quality wise) from each genre.
For me:
Comedy
Sci Fi/Fantasy
Horror
Drama
Action
Family
Musical
Romance

I think all the genres speak for themselves, so I don't really need to explain them. Aside from Family - which is like cartoons or movies meant for children. I left Documentaries out, but you can rank them if you want. I wanted to pay more attention to pure entertainment rather than education. I don't like 'Thriller' or 'Independent' as a genre because they are incorporated into films that mainly will still be considered something else (if that makes sense).

Also: sorry in advance if I missed any loved genres! I tried 😛

I would say horror, but I don't watch them because they're scary, I just think a lot of it is funny.
My favorite horror movie is Phenomena (1985, Dario Argento) I can't even describe how much love this film. I think it's the most fun you can have watching a movie.

I chose horror too but the genre has been dying for the past few years. Now it's all "Lets have sex in this (insert location here) where a serial killer murdered a whole bunch of over-sexed teens on this exact day" and the murder returns and kills them leaving one survivor for the sequel.

True... that or over the top shock value supernatural horrors!! Your description reminds me of Scream though... which is one of my all time favorite movies! 😛

I don't think I could pick one top genre because my favourite always changes with my mood. I suppose my top few would be Sci Fi/Fantasy, Comedy, Action, Romance and Family. But I love all genres really. I'd put horror up there but I have a love/hate relationship with it. I hate gore films, but I love scaring the heck out of myself with stuff like The Ring or Freddie Kreuger (there's a high chance I spelled that entirely wrong) or anything with ghosts/spirits in. But I scare really easy so I usually regret watching them afterwards 😛 My favourites to watch are things like Scream though!

Awesome! No wonder you are such a fan of Buffy, becuase that epic perfect misture of horror, drama and comedy (much like Scream!) Supernatural stuff like ghosts always freaked me out the most as well. The Ring is 1 of the scariest of all time IMO!
Nobody is doing the hard part!!! D:< Rank dem!!! 😛

Lol I dunno if I could since they change so often with my mood! :P
My favorite genres are crime (for example Heat, Reservoir Dogs) and adventure (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future), but they aren't listed.
So I chose the horror genre, of which I'm also a big fan, although I think that new horror movies almost always suck.
I didn't choose drama, because it's a too wide genre. Most crime movies have lots of drama elements, but there are also drama movies that I don't like.

So, horror 🙂

Sorry! I would lump crime into drama! And Adventure with Action! Since you unfortunately didn't get the luxury of those individual genres! :)
I'd say action, but also fantasy. My favorite movies being the Fast&Furious series (action). But Serenity (Sci-Fi) and Transformers (Sci-Fi/Action) are also personnal favorite. But I love pretty much anything except horror movies (The Covenant and Valentine's Day are the most "horror" that I can take).

I have chosen fantasy but for me fantasy is the same thing than fantastic.
I have make a mystake. Sorry
But my favourites films are adventure like indiana jones and fantastic like underworld, blade, .... i don't look a lot of horror's films.
I like also fantasy like harry potter and the walt disney it's so cute.

Of the choices offered, I would have to say "Action," but, more specifically, the epitome of action, the heart of romance, and the ultimate example of drama:

WESTERNS!!

God bless John Wayne, and may Clint Eastwood shoot 'em up for decades to come.

Tombstone is one of my very favourite films
Honestly, I really don't have a favorite genre... I like a movie to be diverse. 😛 But since I had to pick I went with drama. I usually enjoy them. I would have also picked mystery or suspense/thriller, but it wasn't in the choices!

I picked comedy, which is strange since only one of my top 5 films is a comedy. I have a diverse taste in movies. 😀

I love foreign films like Paris, Je'taime- that kind of style where the little parts add up to one big thing at the end is perfect for my short attention span. Heima is a gorgeous film too, it's a documentary about Sigur Ros playing in random places throughout Iceland.

As I mentioned in another thread I am rather obsessed with Woody Allen films at the moment as well- his use of philosophical themes and dialogue is great.

I like the horror, but i like to watch a film to escape real life and so i would rather be laughing while im doing it 🙂 comedy it is.

I have voted sci-fi/fantasy because I love Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and the even numbered Star Trek films 🙂 but when I list my top three films they are all prison dramas.

Shawshank, Green Mile and American History X for those who are wondering.

I totally can't pick. My favorites usually depend on what mood I'm in. I can maybe do a top four . . .

Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Romance and Action.

The best movies have elements of all of those though. Like Star Wars. 😀
