I am good at filling in the blanks, going the Watsonian route, trying to shore up the creatives cracks - but then something happens and I just can't quite manage an explanation.

Fred was a human woman who had no martial arts experience.
Illyria was a god who didn't even have human form.
Fred+Illyria somehow have kick ass moves that can take down a huge assortment of opponents.

Makes me wonder if there is an undead academy which passes on fighting skills to those who are about to rise in their new body.

Anyone else have one?
 
can you explain why Spike has a fridge, electricity and cable in a crypt? It boggles my mind. There has to be a generator somewhere I guess but we've never seen it.

Yup, to say nothing of the effort it would have taken to dig out the second floor. And why did someone build a crypt that is larger than my house to hold one corpse, no two, back to one....with several windows. Who needs that much room, and a view?

It wouldn't be too far a stretch of the imagination that Illyria, with all of Fred's memories, has probably seen some form of hand to hand combat (Fred is a Texan. Watching Chuck Norris as "Walker: Texas Ranger" would be a no brainer. With Illyria's enhanced strength, speed, and reflexes, the techniques would be child's play to duplicate.

Almost certainly, there is. Willow or Xander even commented once about how vampires seem to crawl out of their graves as chop sockey experts. Also, what I said above about human memories combined with demonic powers would pretty much be universal.

Most cemeteries have electric service and running water at various stations around the grounds to facilitate maintenance and upkeep. It wouldn't have taken any great skill to simply plug in an extension cord or attach a garden hose from some seldom or never used station.

The thing that always interested me about Spike's crypt and virtually every basement in Sunnydale is the proliferation of tunnels and underground passageways . Sunnydale must be riddled with caves and oversize sewers, probably at least partially due to the plans of late Mayor Wilkins, who would have certainly wanted a way for his vampire crew to move around safely, regardless of sunlight.

I've got others: Warren getting those orbs that give him stength and invulnerability...but also the fighting skills to go toe-to-toe with Buffy and win. Warren should've fought like he had no training whatsoever- 'cause he didn't.

Also Dark Willow gives herself a physical boost and suddenly is an expert fighter? Yu-huh, okay.

At least with Illyria you could argeu that her martial arts come from her perception of reality- she sees how slowly everybody else moves and simply avoids/blocks their attacks and counters with that awesome strength. To everybody else it would seem like she's some hand-to-hand expert but she isn't.
 
That in Giles' library of hundreds, possibly thousands, of books with thousands of individual pages, they can always find the right demon with the minimal of description.

I know they sometimes pulled all nighters, but still, that's a mean feat! 😀

Must be. I mean an awful lot at vamps, some newly risen, seem very familiar with martial arts. It makes sense on long-living vampires, but pretty much all of them? Do vamps only turn athletes? 😉

'Joyce's Antiques' for demons with taste 🙂 She must have been selling to Sunnydales demon population, it't the only way she waould make that much money to afford that house and the mega insurance

I never understood why the normal residents of Sunnydale seemed either ignorant of the fact their town was swarming with vampires and demons or just blissfully unaware of all the disappearances and deaths.

Also, why was no-one in Sunnydale cremated?

Most crypts do have windows. Probably since most cemeteries are not wired for electricity and if you visit a crypt or have to bury someone new it's nice to be able to see.

There was more than one sarcaphogi in there, and signs that lots of things had been moved around.

Depending on the prosperity of the family, some crypts are really really large, but most that I've visited have the bodies stacked. Probably varies by location, era and religious beliefs.

I'm a cemetery buff, it's a hobby.

Some of the aspects of Spike's crypt are way out there, but not all of them.

Actually the black leather jacket the Buffybot wore in Intervention, I'm pretty sure shows up in S7...I am trying to recall which episode

Don't you think people in her line of work get well paid? Not least in the middle class areas of sunny California. Other ways? Sale of their last house and divorce money? I buy that she would have enough.
 
How did they get from one side of the town to the other on foot so quick all the time?

Why were there hardly any kids from school in the library? Or not notice the weird stuff happening in there and be freaked out by it? Or ever wonder why Buffy and the Scooby gang hung out there ALL the time?
