Favorite Singer

If I have to say just one... I would say Evanescence... the band really rocks!
I also like Celine Dion very much, she has an incredible voice.
 
This is not a good answer off the top of my head... but since I just watched Britney's concert on Showtime... I do have to say that I love that girl! I think she holds herself well considering all of the media attention she gets... she can put on a good show...
I also like Eminem... a bit different from Britney I must say, hehe... but being so close to Detroit, I'm proud to be a Slim Shady fan!!!

Madonna is my all time favourite singer/performer.

She has made such an impact in the music industry and even american pop culture. She is now REVERED by up and comers like Britney and Christina. She has respect from her peers in many different genres of music and she has always managed to captivate her fans and even her critics with her deft ability to change her apparenence and stay on the trends and pulse of the nation.

When she emerged in the last two years of the seventies as a disco dolly and member of the band, Emmy, no one thought she would last. Even when she began to blow up with songs like "Holiday" and "Everybody" which were hot dance tracks in the clubs of New York City....no one was sure she would last. When "Like A Virgin" hit the airwaves and the clubs....that prooved Madonna was here to stay even though critics favoured Cyndi Lauper (you see who out lasted who : laugh : ). Madonna's peers, Prince and Michael Jackson were already on the top of the charts and during the 1980s these three ruled the air waves and commanded attention but as the 1990's came and went , only Madonna would endure and remain relevant. near the end of the 90's when Britney, Christina, TLC and others shouldve "eclipsed" Madonna, she came back in a MAJOR WAY with Ray of Light and showed some of her best singing ability as well as getting people BACK into the clubs with the techno sound she made popular.

Madonna has created fashion trends, dance fads, made many interesting (even if they were critically scorned) movies, and performed some of THE HIGHEST grossing american and international concert tours of any female artist. She's listed in the Guiness Book of World records as THE HIGHEST selling female recording artist and tied with Janet Jackson in Guiness and Billboard for most consecutive dance hits of any female artist. She has toped nearly EVERY VH1/MTV video count down for "Sexiest Video Artist" and similar countdowns as well as being seen THROUGHOT MTV's 500 greatest Videos of ALL time countdown ("Vogue" was the number 2 video out of 500! being beaten for the number video spot ONLY by Michael Jackson's "Thriller") Everyone talks about how Eminem is from Detroit....but so is Madonna and she did it all FIRST!

She's an inspiration to women everywhere and artists like Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Britney and many others as well as normal women like myself credit madonna with being a strong example of female empowerment. She made it okay for women to flaunt their sexuality through their music , videos and lyrics. She pushed the envelope of "outrageous" more than once and left a trial for others to follow.

Madonna has and always will be the ultimate Queen of Pop.. she rocks in more then one way and is a great performer.. loved her ever since I was a young girl and I'm still a fan now 🙂

I hate pop music. I just hate it - it drives me insane with how EMPTY most of it is!

I can deal with rap. I may not like it, but I don't hate it, because rap has meaning behind it. I don't like hip-hop, but I can deal with it. 'Cause at least some of it has meaning. Disco - well, Disco is fun to dance to, so what can I say? 😛 And the Beatles rock, too, don't get me wrong. I was friggin' raised on the Beatles and the Beach Boys and other classic rock bands.

I also love Creed - they just rule. I can listen to their music for hours. And their lyrics? They're real. They make you think. Like in "Beautiful" - "Beautiful is empty, Beautiful is free, Beautiful loves no one, Beautiful stripped me" - right there, you have to think to understand what they're saying (No, I won't explain it to you people who do not like to think 😉. It' what my dad calls "intelligent music." I like this "intelligent music" - I just do. 😛

I would probably have answered Heather Headley for this, had I not remembered that I like Linkin Park more. But that's only because I near-worship the ground Heather Headley walks on - I can recognize her voice on different Broadway showtunes CDs. I mean, I didn't even know she had BEEN in the Lion King on Broadway, and I recognized her voice on the soundtrack from it because I knew that only Heather can hit this one note that was in "Shadowland" in that and "Easy As Life" in Disney's AIDA on Broadway. I mean, how many people do you know that can recognize someone by their voice when it wasn't a song they had heard before? I checked with my friend who had seen the original cast on Broadway, and she was like, "Oh, yeah, taht's Heather Headley."

But no, I like Linkin Park more. Not only is their music "intelligent music," it's also music that I can relate to. I can relate to it very easily, indeed. For example, in "Runaway" - one of my favorite songs by them - there is a line that goes, "A constant wave of tension on top of broken trust. The lessons that you taught me I learned were never true. Now I find myself in question (They point the finger at me again) Guilty by association (You point the finger at me again!)". I can relate to that so well, it's not even funny. And in "Numb" - don't get me started. In fact, the same applies to most of their songs. And it helps that their music is real, and is actually sung by them. And they don't get their voices edited so that they sound differrent than they really do. Like Enrique Iglesias (spelling?). All his singing is fake, and is edited by a machine!

No, Linkin Park is the One Band TO RULE THEM ALL!!!

Pop music may not be your thing....but true artists/entertainers like Madonna have crossed over quite well into the genres of R&B, Techno, "TripHop" as well as being a reinging "Disco Diva" (along with Cher and Janet Jackson) with great success. she has the grammys, the MTV VMAs(the most of any artist to appear on that show so far) and even a Golden Globe.

it looks to me like your taking the opportunity to subtlely KNOCK people who enjoy pop music and insult their intelligence as well.

this thread is for discussing your personal favourite singers WITHOUT implying that a person has to be of a certain "intelligence level" in order to grasp the meaning of lyrics. there are MANY artists in different genres who have delivered powerful songs with meaningful lyrics that im sure would TRANSCEND your idea of "intelligent music". so i suggest you make sure you keep that in mind the next time you share your thoughts in a thread designed for the benefit of EVERYONE here.

well my favorite vocalist im almost positive none of you will of heard of, but his name is Jesse David Leach, he use to be the vocalist for Killswitch Engage, and is the current vocalist for Seemless
 
My Favourite female singer is Britney Spears, I also like Amy Lee's from Evanescence!!🙂

My Favourite male singer is Justin Timberlake...I also like Usher's songs!!
 
My two favorite singers are Amy Lee of Evanescence and Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil... they both have beautiful voices!
If you haven't heard of LaCuna Coil check out their site www.lacunacoil.it they are from Italy! And are AMAZING! and yes almost all of their songs are in english

Linkin Park isn't pop music, hun. They sing a combination of hard rock, punk, and (yes, it's there) some rap. That's not pop.

I kind of forgot what i was saying there, and I'd go delete most of it now if it weren't for the fact that it's now been quoted, and there'd be no point.

Just a suggestion: but EVERYBODY shoould check out Daien Rice- he is brilliant! amazing lyrics, great voice, and each and every song oin his album O seems to have been given a lot of care and attention

I have alot of fave singers. But my favorite singer of all time is Hilary Duff! I think she has an amazing voice that fans would never hate! My favorite male singer would be...um... I dont really have one but my favorite bands are Yellowcard and Maroon5. So thats my opinion.
