Who did you think was the best for Wes? Personally I have to go with Fred. 😉 They should have gotten together way earlier in the show! I did appreciate the effect Wesley had on Lilah, but Fred/Wesley was so much more gripping.

I can't really vote for this one, because I don't care for either of them. If at all, maybe Fred. But I like Fred with Willow, and if not then with Gunn. Virginia always seemed too young for him to me, so maybe that bothers me a little. But he can be with her, I wouldn't say anything. He's one of the characters that I don't mind who he is with.

LILAH!!

Him and Fred, no thank you. He was in love with the idea of her. I think once he actually got to be with her he would have realized he didnt really love her he just wanted her.

Lilah was perfect for him.

Wesley/Fred. I wish I hadn't known that she would die, because it kind of ruined my joy of seeing them finally get together, but I was still happy.

I thought Wes - Lilah was completely toxic and that he only sought respite in her as a way of self-destruction during a time when he was depressed, disillusiioned, and distraught. He's a hero with a good heart; she's a villain with no heart. They were not suited together. That said, though, I LOVED the tension between them. "Don't think about me when I'm gone." "I didn't think about you while you were here."

So true. But I think she was sort of in love with him, but I don't think he was in love with her at all.
I loved Lilah SO much, but she deserved so much better than lame dark Wes. For that reason I'm going with Fred, but I'm not that sold on them. Wes/Illyria on the other hand....!

I always thought the point of the Wesley/Lilah relationship was that it was the ultimate low point for Wesley. Sure, it was a sorta kinda turning point for Lilah, but not really. It was just Wesley being REALLY self destructive and having a minimal good influence on Lilah... The amount of people who love them together makes me feel like i'm missing something. Now, this doesn't mean I didn't like their dynamic, because I did. It was fun to watch... but Wesley wasn't right for her. She brought out his absolute worst... and that was kinda the point.

I like Virginia. I hate Fred more than words can describe... and Lilah as I just explained wasn't good for him... but Virginia was. I really liked her.

I agree on the Lilah&Wes relationship being meant to be destructive and wrong. I think she deserved to burn in hell and Wesley deserved something better.

I would have thought you shipped wes/lilah since theyre so clearly like Spuffy
Lilah, because I loved the dynamic, and it was so perfect for the changes Wesley was going through at the time. Fred was great, but it wasn't as fun as watching Lilah

I liked Wes/Lilah and Wes/Fred. But ultimately, I'm on Fred's team. I don't get why people say he was only in love with the idea of her, or that he was just too dark to be with her; Fred's personality isn't just one of some bubbly bright girl. Hello, she's pretty tough and managed to survive in Pylea for five years.

But my point of that post was they're so clearly not. Through loving Buffy, Spike became the only vampire in the entire Bufffyverse to ever go out and knowingly and willingly fight for his soul. Through loving Spike, Buffy was able to get the strength to believe in herself and fight The First. They grew from their love of each other. Through loving Lilah, Wesley became a jerk. Through loving Wesley, Lilah became slightly less of one. I am failing to see how this is like Spuffy at all. Yes, Wesley and Lilah were a hero and a villain when the hero was at his worst. But it didn't change either character like Spuffy did. Maybe it would have had Lilah not died, but she did and it didn't.

Wesley didnt become a jerk because of Lilah. He was who he was regardless of her. He was that way because of what he did and his friends abandoning him, that had nothing to do with Lilah. Wesley was alone and depressed and angry, very much like Buffy was in season 6. He used Lilah because he felt he didnt deserve better like Buffy used Spike.

Lilah loved him, no not in the same way spike loved Buffy, but she loved him in her way and she really wanted to be with him she just couldn't show it because she didn't how to show her feelings anymore. But what she wanted was Wesley just like Spike wanted Buffy. And like Buffy, Wesley eventually loved Lilah though he couldn't admit it to himself.

You may not see it, but to me Wesley and Lilah are very much the same as Spike and Buffy. Of course theyre not exactly the same no two couples are.

I totally agree and have always notied the similarities as well.

I agree. The relationships are also the similar in the way they were destructive. Spuffy more so, but neither relationship was healthy. Well, Spuffy was starting to become in season 7.

I don't think either one of them actually loved the other. At all. I think it's clear from Wes's reaction to Lilah's death that he had feelings for her, but I'm sure it wasn't love and he himself said that she never loved him.

Even though I think Wes/Lilah was hot and had potential, I absolutely love Fred and Wes together. 🙂 I still get a little peeved that we never got more than what we did with them, but they were beautiful for the brief time we saw them together.

I guess the big difference for me is that with Spike and Buffy Spike is my favorite character ever and he becomes that even more through his love for Buffy. Wesley was my favorite character before the events of season 3... so after that it kinda ruined him and everything he did. Plus I never liked Lilah. I liked Buffy even though she wasn't my favorite of the ship.

That being said, I still don't see it completely. Spuffy is so much about the journey and about the growth. The growth that Wesley and Lilah do not have. Sure, they have the circumstances... but the circumstances aren't what made or makes Spuffy great. The journey is, the growth is.

Well I think part of the reason people hate it is because they hate Lilah or Wesley or both. But I dont agree that there isn't growth. Lilah changes a lot in the short time she is with Wesley. I think she only would have continued to change had they had more time together.

The major difference between them and Spuffy is time. Spike and Buffy were one of the main focuses of the show in season 6 and 7. Wesley/Lilah had very little focus and only for a short time in one season. Every time they were given some focus an obstacle was thrown in their way to prevent any real growth in the relationship.

I think they could have been so much more if theyd been given a little more time and a little more focus

I completely agree. That is why I have a hard time looking at Wesley and Lilah's relationship in a positive way. It was just a terribly low time for Wes and he never recovered until, well after Lilah's death. They didn't have time to try a relationship when Wes was his normal Wesley self. There is time with Fred and Wes. They have known each other longer and seen each other at their best and worst. Same with Spuffy.
