When I was younger, so much younger than today my favourite Beatle was always Paul but now I've got older, losing my hair, it has to be John, my working class hero.
When Lennon was shot I was at college, living in a hall of residence in Birmingham. I found out when I came to the communal kitchen for breakfast and one of the lads said they'd heard on the news that he'd been killed. It didn't really sink in until I arrived at college and other people were talking about it. A few of us went out to a friend's car when the first lecture ended to listen to the radio news which confirmed it. We abandoned learning for the rest of the day, going to the college bar and monopolising the juke box there with Beatles and Lennon songs. We had our own little wake for him. A sad day...this thread revived the memory - still life's not all sunshine and lollipops, is it? If it weren't for the sad days I wouldn't fully appreciate the happy times.
