Favourite Friendships

Which of the friendships in the Buffyverse do you like the best? The ones officially established in canon, but also ones that had the potential but never really took off in the series.

I really like the idea of Spike and Dawn friendship - a sort of older brother, younger sister relationship. We saw the beginnings of it on screen during season five and in Bargaining, but it never really went any further, which is a shame. There's plenty of good fic out there, though.

I also liked the friendship that Cordy and Angel had before any romantic feelings were involved. It was an unusual pairing, and not one I'd ever have thought would work when they were both on BtVS, but it was great on AtS.

Cordy and Angel as friends are amazing.

Xander/Buffy are also pretty cool.

If I could have seen a frienship develope I think I would have liked to have seen Buffy/Cordy. Two fierce, brave women, they were more alike than they knew and I think would have been an incredible ally to each other, especially in later seasons. Plus, they loved Angel more than anyone else on the planet.

Buffy and Oz. This might be considered quite strange but I tend to like friendships that you don't see explored so much, but when you do there's really something there and that's what I've always felt about Buffy and Oz. If he had been around in the later seasons I think he could have been a great person for Buffy to lean on.

Riley and Xander. This one has always resonated with me and I don't really know why. I just found it really honest, genuine and realistic and I think Riley did a lot for Xander as a person.

And despite what came of it, Cordy and Angel had a really beautiful endearing friendship.

Angel and Faith. This is an epic friendship that I just love, the reasons for which I've posted around so I won't bore anyone by repeating them. 😉

Xander and Willow(+ Buffy). They've been friends since they were young. There's something between them that Buffy can't reach.

Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn, especially in Ats season 2. They're fun to watch when they do the business without Angel. You can feel the warm when they're together. Cordy dancing and singing "My name is Gunn. And I have a gun." and when they sing "We are the champions." are great scenes. 😀

EDIT: Ah, how could I forget Angel and Faith? It's powerful. I love how they respect each other and never give up on each other.

My favourite was always Joyce and Spike. I love that she trusts him so much, and feels totally comfortable with him in her home. She's the original "Summers woman", and I'm sure Spike sees a lot of what he loves about Buffy in her. Plus, he's still living the rebellious lifestyle that she had to give up. It's quite beautiful really, the way they live off one another in ways that you'd never really expect.

Also, I love in S4 when Oz goes on patrol with Buffy and she kicks the bench in half?

LOL, I had that scene playing in my head when I made that post!

I hadn't thought about the Sarah/Seth thing before but they are awesome when they're together. I'm not sure what it is, to be honest, but the bench scene is when I first realised there was something just waiting to be explored.

I seem to recall there being something in the Sunnydale Yearbook (not the same as the show I know but still) where he'd written something like 'Much remains unsaid' (and later said he wrote it in a song - it's an instrumental lol) and that has always stuck with me and led me to feel there was more there than we saw on screen.

I always thought that Buffy and Faith had a great potential for friendship, unfortunately never realized.

Buffy, Xander and Willow. That is just one of the most beautiful tv friendships I ever saw. So strong, sometimes a little rocky, but I guess all that lies were a test - but in the end they were there for each other.

I really love the core 4. But I love the seperate friendships of Giles/Buffy and Willow/Xander more, especially in the high school years.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dawn and Tara. I really liked their scenes together. And Spike and Joyce ofcourse!

I never really liked any Buffy-centric friendship, to be honest. 🙂 I really love the Willow/Xander friendship though. 😀

I also enjoyed Wes/Fred friendship, and Wes/Gunn/Cordy friendship.

Spike/Angel friendship is EPIC, lol. :biggrin3:

I also enjoy Darla/Spike friendship...

I loved the Angel/Cordy friendship, one of the most honest relationships on the show.

I loved Faith/Angel, and I really wished they could have elaborated on that.

Fred/Angel, too, was cute and sweet.

That's about it, really, lol. I loved Angel's friendships, they were always so genuine.

I love Angel and Faith's friendship.

My top favorite Buffyverse friendship is definitely Xander and Buffy. Although Xander is not one of my favorite characters, I love how him and Buffy relate. Men come and go in her life, but Xander has always stood by her side. The riff that could be caused between them due to recent events is something I'm not looking forward too.

And of course...who could forget Angel and Spike? They have so much history and backstory. And MY GOD, the sexual tension! *fans herself* You could cut it with a knife! 😉

Buffy, Willow and Xander are probably my favourite simply because they have been there from the beginning and as a result will always have that bond. I'd also add Giles into that equation too considering he was always there by their side.

Don't know if you can call it a friendship but i liked Giles and Spike. Always remember Spike having a go at Giles when he thought he called him Randy and who could forget them watching "Passions", brought a different element too the show when so much drama was occurring. That was the beauty of Spike as a character as no matter what situation he could make you laugh and be really evil at the same time.

I liked Buffy/Willow, they were truly best friends. Also Willow/Fred would've been good to see more of.

I always liked the Buffy/Giles dynamic. Always struck me as really genuine, I love that by the end of season 1 Giles is pretty much prepared to stride to his certain death against The Master to try & save Buffy from the prophecy. He would have been a good dad.
