Favourite Friendships

Great thread!

Dawn/Spike. Even though I hate Dawn, I still enjoyed their big brother/younger sister relationship. He took it upon himself to protect Dawn, I thought it was really sweet considering Spike used to be the big bad of season 2. LOL.

Cordy/Angel

Fred/Willow.

Willow/Buffy.

Spike/Joyce...their scenes were gold.
 
Angel and Cordelia. I know it's at the point past them being "just friends", but the scene where they're both lying on the bed with baby Connor in-between them just kinda sums it all up for me. They're so relaxed with each other, aren't afraid to challenge each other on bad decisions (in fact, Cordy makes a point of it) and you can see how genuinely hurt Angel is (either in "Epiphany", or the episode after it) when Cordelia says "we're not friends". And then he goes and buys her clothes. xD Simply, they make each other better people and they're both better for having each other around.

Angel and Doyle. Considering that Doyle was only around for nine episodes (eight if you count the fact IWRY didn't really happen, as far as Doyle was concerned), their bro-mance was brilliant. The fact that five years on seeing that video of Doyle while he's at WR&H helped get Angel back on the right track... That's a big thing, man.

Gunn and Wesley. Pre-Fred. As much as I love Fred as a character, her arrival into AI really tore these two up. They were "tight", fighting "shoulder to shoulder... or rather hip to shoulder these days". When they went to get that "two headed fire breathing" thing in the sewer under the girls school, and later tell Cordy about it, you can really tell they trust each other implicitly.

Gunn, Wes and Cordy. See above, just disregard the Fred bits.

Angel and Faith

Mutual respect, friendship really caring for each other. Of course this is one of the greatest friendships in the show.

Xander and Buffy

I do not mention Willow here cause she let me down in the last seasons(not to mention the disturbing the dead). But Xander has been Buffy's support without having any special powers.In the beginning, 3 first seasons Willow is also included. By season 4 I felt the original Scooby gang started breaking off IMO.

Buffy and Giles

This is not exactly friendship, but more like a father/daughter relationship. There has never been any other better father for Buffy.

Angel and Cordy

Both characters evolved. If someone told me that ANgel and Cordy are gonna be such good friends, with mutual respect and fighting side by side, making sacrifices for each other, i would be LMAO!!! But Joss always surprises us. And this was a pleasant surprise.

Buffy and Faith

I think they reconciled. And if Faith was a "less fun in work" person they would really become friends in the end. I like the fact that Faith in Chosen stands by her side and waits for her when all the others are almost gone.

Very agree about Cordy/Angel and Buffy/Faith. But you know I don't think of them as just friends, lol. :P

I am with you about Xander & Buffy -Willow :)
Andrew and Anya had a delightful little friendship going on near the end of Season 7, it was great. She also had a fun friendship with Willow and Giles.

Spike and Joyce was pretty amusing too.

Ha! That's a great thread idea! There's a bunch of nice friendships on both shows, but my three favorites(and don't be surprised if Xander/Willow and Angel/Cordy aren't there, since it had glaring romantic sides at times)would probably be...

Xander and Buffy

Lots of really nice moments between those two. Obviously the scene in Seeing Red and the follow-ups of the shooting come to mind, but also Xander doing something he didn't want to when Buffy asked him to KO Dawn and get her out of Sunnydale, Xander giving his speech to Buffy in 'Into The Woods', Buffy standing up for Xander in Checkpoint and Entropy ect... But they also argued and almost came to fists at times(see Dead Man's Party and Revelations), which any really good friends do at time. Because you're not afraid to be honest with them.

Lorne and Angel

I'm surprised no one talked about them! I really liked the whole relationship between those two. It started slowly, but once Angel kept coming to see Lorne, they got closer. Lorne was not really you're usual hero haha, and the fact he actually put his life in the balance countless times just to help Angel, that proves a lot to me. Lorne and Cordelia were the two characters that seemed to really care about what was going on inside Angel during the show. I think he actually helped him couple of times to get out of a bad stretch, like in season 2 with the whole firing his friends. Sadly I think Angel hurt their friendship really bad when he asked him to kill Lindsey at the end of s5... He knew Lorne hated violence, so killing a human like that?

Spike & Dawn

Now I have to agree with some peoples who said this wasn't explored enough. I really liked these two together in s5 and s6. The whole thing with Dawn going to see him since she felt 'safe' with him and that he treated her like a real person, I can totally understand. And then Dawn was also treating him pretty well, which I think Spike respected from her. Actually once Buffy got over the whole 'dead' thing, Spike had been a close pal to all the Summers women haha =P Anyway it was nice to see Spike telling Dawn he wouldn't let anything happen to her in Bargaining and the whole scene in the house! Like someone said, felt like he was acting as her big brother.


Now I know there is many more friendships that everyone liked in the Verse, but I picked three that just struck a cord with me =P
 
Xander/Spike, Xander/Oz, Xander/Riley, I like the line Xander says in I forget which episode of "I wish Oz was here. He'd get it. He wouldn't say anything.. but he'd get it."

^Above I forgot about Lorne&Angel, they have a lot of great moments. (Killing Lindsay obviously not being one of them)
 
Angel/Cordy definitely. I love their friendship, he really needs her big smile 🙂

Angel and Cordy had the most amazing friendship ever before any romance was involved, she could always make him laugh and get him outta brood mode.

Dawn and Spike, mainly cause even though he was so protective of her he seemed to be the only one who didn't treat her like some doll or something that could break easily and I think Dawn really needed that.

Willow and Xander probably cause it's one of the most realistic and honest friendships on the show.

Faith and Angel. Can't say much apart from that in some ways Faith is kinda the chick Angel, without the brooding.

The original LA gang (Cordy, Angel and Doyle) and Angel's entire relationship with the happiest guy ever and exactly what he needs to cheer him up, Lorne.

Giles and Anya. If you ask why, go watch them arguing in Bargaining and you'll see what I mean.

And of course, the core four, Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles
 
Xander/Buffy:

The best IMO. Especially after Seeing Red, they started to grow closer and closer, and he's obviously her best friend in S8. I personally love the gender reversal between them: Buffy as the super hero, Xander as her cheerleader who always has faith in her. Also Buffy being Xander's hero and him being her damsel in distress.

Xander/Spike:

I know they're not friends, but I've always seen their relationship to be complex and interesting. I find Xander insulting Spike the second he sees him much better than Spike who doesn't actually see Xander. Xander at least notices Spike. And I love how Xander's views on Spike started to change and mellow in S7, if only their relationship was explored more.
 
Xander and Buffy, Cordy and Angel. All are fiercely loyal and caring but also can say the harsh stuff that sometimes needs to be said between friends. I still wait for the Willow and Buffy friendship to get back to what it was but season 6 did a lot of damage.
The unexplored friendships I'd like to see. Oz and Buffy, that bench scene is my favorite Buffy quote ever, I like seeing those two together.
Also Tara and Buffy were great in season 6, I wish we had seen that continued.
 
From BTVS.....Tara/Dawn
Tara really looked after Dawn and Dawn looked up to her in a serious way. It was almost parental. I remember when Willow and Tara broke up and Tara went to talk to Dawn on the front porch and Dawn just ran away crying.Then of course there was Tara taking her out for just them time afterward. And in OMWF it was Tara that was home with Dawn.

From Angel....Cordy/Angel
Cordy had a crush on Angel back in the beginning of BTVS and was always trying to get his attention then when she realized she could not have it she was totally not on his side at all. Then they moved over to Angel and their friendship just fit so perfectly together. I think it was great even after they developed romantic feelings for each other. I think they should have been a final couple.

My favorite unexplored friendship is......Dawn/Cassie
They were only friends for the one episode but I think that if Cassie had not died they would have developed quite the close friendship. Plus Cassie would have been able to help them out every now and then and that would have been nice as well. I really liked Cassie.

I wanted to see more of Cassie/Dawn friendship too
I liked the Doyle and Cordy friendship because it was honest and trustworthy and I like them better as friends!
I also liked the Buffy and Oz's friendship because I like how they weren't awkward around eachother like some teenagers in some shows, and I like how Willow/Oz, Cordy/Xander, and Buffy/Angel double-dated in the season 2 & 3!
And I liked the Buffy/Willow/Cordelia friendship in high school because it they were a unique trio and it's like girls night out!
 
I like Spike and Dawn's friendship - I'd love to see that reparied somehow. Lot's of fanfics do it...maybe the comics will.
I also like Joyce and Spike - that was just comedy gold.
I also like Spike and Buffy's friendship.

I'm sensing a pattern here...
 
Forgot to mention Gunn/Wesley. I loved their relationship. They were totally tight before Fred came along and mucked things up.
