Favourite Musical

I enjoyed "Once More With Feeling," certainly, but as much as I love the works of Joss, my favorite musical of all time is and no doubt will always remain "The King And I" with the immortal Yul Brynner.

Had to give you The King and I karma, I love that movie. I saw the musical on stage last year and it just blew me away then too.
I'm not sure I have a favourite. "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat" will always have a soft spot in my heart because my transition year class did it for our schools annual musical. I suppose Grease, Beauty and the Beast and of course OMWF.

Oh! I almost forgot "I Keano"...absolutely the funniest musical I ever seen. If you like football and followed the disiaster that was Ireland's World Cup campaign in 2002 then this is absolute gold.

LOL, I love musicals. Don't know why, as I'm not a muscial person, but I do.

My favorites have got to be, OMWF, obviously, Joesph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Calamity Jane (one of my all time favorite movies, both musical and not) Starlight Express, Oliver Twist (but only because I played Charlotte in my school's play, lol) and Grease.

starlight express answer me YES! lol LOVES IT!
My favorite musicals. Man this is a really hard question to ask me! I've grown up with musicals all my life!! Let's see now. Into the Woods, Peter Pan, West Side Story (Steven Sondheim = WOW) and several others. I love the music in The Light in the Piazza and something magical and brilliantly done (costuming, sets, music, everything) that everyone should see is Wicked, no matter the cast or production.

"Into the Woods" karma!
OH! I forgot one. Sweeny Todd, but only if it has Johnny Depp! lol

I'm not a huge fan of musicals but I count Grease, Oliver and Sweeney Todd as some of my favourite films.

cry baby is my ultimate favourite!
i also love dancer in the dark, grease, gentlemen prefer blondes, nightmare before christmas, willy wonka, oliver!, rocky horror picture show, the sound of music, mary poppins... i could go on. i'm a sucker for a film with singing and dancing!

I love Moulin Rouge, The sound of Music and Grease because I love singing along hehe. Some of the others mentioned I've never seen. My sister is a sucker for musicals I know she has Rent and Hair in her collection somewhere but I saw them when I was far too young to understand and havent seen them again. Does The wizard of Oz count as a musical? 😛

yes it does! and its great!!!!!
I forgot to say The Nightmare Before Christmas and just about every animated Disney movie. Cos I absolutely love The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast. I was the right when age when these films came out in the early 90's so they always remind me of when I was wee. Also love the older ones like Lady and the Tramp and Dumbo. A lot of great songs in them.

My fovorite would have to be Wicked, probably because it was the first (and only, as of now) Broadway show I've seen, and I saw it with the original cast, AND through a connection of my mom's friend I got to sit in the fifth row. It was basically awesome.

Another one I like is one I'm sure most of you haven't heard of, called The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd. I know, it's a mouthful. It was performed at my school last year, and it was quite different from anything I'd ever seen. It was about two people playing the game of life, and there were urchins, and it was all very odd. I wouldn't have understood it at all if my friend, who played an urchin, hadn't told me what urchins were. Then, I got the entire play.

As far as movies go, Sweeney Todd, definitely! Haven't seen it performed, though I would like to get my hands on the Angela Lansbury production of it (because Angela Lansbury just rocks). I think Burton's film was done pretty well, and Johnny Depp singing? Come on now.

Also, Disney movies.

And of course Once More, With Feeling. Gotta love that.

Cats is the only musical I´ve seen on the "big" stage. The experience was great and "Memory" is on of my my favourite musical songs. Phantom of the opera, Grease and Sound of music also springs to mind. I really liked the movie Moulin Rogue, but I don´t feel a need to see it on stage so I´m not sure it should be mentioned.

I must say that I have watched way to few musicals in real life. I´m sure I would love Miss Saigon, Les miserables and Jesus christ superstar to name a few. Chess is i less known one that I really would like to watch. It was created by the guys (Bjorn & Benny) from Abba along with Tim Rice. And speaking of Abba. I can´t believe I haven´t seen Mamma mia. A big failure on my part. I guess I´ll have to do with the movie.

With regards to film musicals, Sweeney Todd and The Nightmare Before Christmas are two of my favourite films of all time. The Lion King and most other Disney films of that era were wonderful too. For an actual stage production, nothing has yet beaten Jesus Christ Superstar for me. I just love it! I mean, Les Mis was good, but the music in Jesus Christ Superstar is just amazing.

On a slightly related note, I remember a few years ago, Channel 4 did a poll on what the British public's top 100 musicals were. I can't remember what came first, but I do remember being completely gobsmacked that not only was OMWF featured, it came above Les Mis!!! Now that's pretty impressive!
