That's such a tough question. Most of the openers are so good. It's always difficult to pick between grades of excellence.

I find it much easier to choose the worst season opener. Hands down that would be Buffy vs. Dracula.

The question was favourite season opener though, so I will choose Anne. I think that episode is much underestimated. Plus I prefer the character driven episodes in general.
 
Bargaining, had much more suspense then "Lessons", and really brought you back into the buffy-feeling in less then a second. The quality level of "Welcome to the Hellmouth" was relativly lower then "Bargaining", "When she was bad" and "Anne" were too dark, and didn't really have the same fibe, "the Freshman" would come very close, if it wouldn't have been for Sunday, "Buffy vs. Dracula" was very cool too, but had a little less Buffy-vibe!
 
I voted Lessons!!!

Closely followed by When She Was Bad + Anne!!!
 
Have you noticed that all the season openers (apart from WTTH) start with a slay or fight of a demon or vampire in the graveyard? I just thought it was worth noting. (oh, and Lessons was my favourite)
Ive just thought, what ive just said, its not true, so forgot that! (stupid me)
 
I think they r all great, but i voted for 'LESSONS' Because it's the newest and it's the last season opener ever (of Buffy) and it should be remembered.
so should 'WTTH' coz it was the first episode of buffy ever and season 2's pemeire was the second and it was the first proper one coz season one wasnt a whole season. 🙂
 
Buffy v's Dracula, that was a nice fun, refreshing way to start a season, I remember it was advertised oads, I was gettin really excited! 😀
 
I would go for Bargaining as although we all knew Buffy would be back, it was a nervous wait seeing how it would be done!!

I love the Scoobies all working together to take down the vamps but realising that ultimately they need Buffy.

After that my order would be Lessons, The Freshman, Buffy Vs Dracula, When She Was Bad, Welcome To The Hellmouth and finally Anne.

i voted for WTTH cos this was the beginning of a brilliant show. This was also when they were at there most innocent and the show was just fun.
Also buffy was cute😀
