So, there's a lot of talk recently about least/most favourite seasons etc on BTVS and ATS. But I wanted to know a bit more, because I'm nosey like that. I want to know what your favourite series is (Buffy or Angel), what your favourite season is, what you favourite episode is (it doesn't have to be from your favourite season) and what your favourite moment is (either between two characters or a single character). And, where possible, explain why please 🙂

So, here goes.

Series: Angel.
I watched Angel before Buffy, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Buffy as a character annoys me, and I just find Angel a lot "grittier" and darker as a whole, and the show a lot more enjoyable.

Season: Angel S1; Buffy S2
I nearly put Angel S2 purely for Pylea, but it's too mopey mopey woe is me for me. Buffy S2 only narrowly beats S3, but Angelus along with Spike & Dru were my favourite villains by far and so they just topped it because of that.

Episode: Angel - I'm gonna cheat and say the Pylean Episodes at the end of S2 Buffy "Hush"
Nuff said xD

Moment: Angel
I can't decide between...
- When Lilah dresses up as Fred for Wes//The "there's a signed dollar bill in your wallet says otherwise" bits
- Cordy and Angel falling asleep on Angel's bed with baby Connor between them
- Cordy, Wes & Gunn singing "We are the champions"
- The scene in/after Epiphany when Angel's talking to Kate and does the whole "if nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do" speech.
- Doyle's video.
- In S2 of Angel when Angel goes to visit Faith in jail.
- The whole of You're Welcome
But I think it has to go to Doyle's video; due to the fact it shows up again in "You're Welcome".

Buffy
I can't decide between...
- The end of The Zeppo, when Xander just walks away from Cordelia.
- Graduation Day Pt II when all the students take their robes off.
- All father/daughter moments between Giles & Buffy

I think Grad day pt II wins though 🙂

My gosh, we have so many of the same favs!
Series: Buffy. I just liked the dialogue better, it tended to be on the lighter, funnier side and I prefer that.

Season: Angel S5, Buffy S3. I liked Angel a lot more when Illyria and Spike joined in. Buffy S2 is really good as well but S3 is just consistently better, there are maybe 4 episodes in that whole season that get anything less than a 10 from me.

Episode: Angel - Orpheus, I loved Willow and the Faith/Angel/Angelus scenes. Buffy - Becoming Part 2 the ending is just so powerful, or OMWF which I adore also.

Moment: Angel - I loved Cordelia/Wesley's Buffy/Angel impersonation. The moment that most caught me by surprise was definitely Darla staking herself. Also Fred's death, and then Wesley's death. Buffy - when Buffy says "Close your eyes" I always lose it, also the Class Protector award in The Prom, the library scene in Earshot, and Dawn & Buffy's final scene in Forever.

There are so many good moments from both shows those are just off the top of my head.

Series: Buffy. Simply because it's REALLY hard for me to get through an Angel rewatch because there's a lot of episodes I don't really care for. lol Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Angel, but I like every Buffy episode for one reason or another 🙂

Season: Season 2 for Buffy; Season 5 for Angel.

Episode: Becoming (I count both parts as one ep... sue me 😛) for Buffy; Orpheus for Angel.

Moment: There's so many awesome moments in both shows... I can't decide. lol Hmm For Buffy I'm gonna say the scene in the hallway with Buffy, Giles, Willow, and Xander in Chosen. 😀 For Angel; The end of Unleashed with all of them are hanging in Angel's office 🙂 It was such a sweet moment, I wish Cordy could've been there too.

Series: Hm, that's a toughie, but... I guess I'll say Btvs, because since I've seen Btvs more it's closer to my heart. 🙂

Season: Ats Season... 5? Season 3? My favorite Btvs Season is 6. I dunno, I really love them all. 😀

Episode:
Spin the Bottle and Restless, but Lullaby comes in close second.

Moment: That last moment between Angel and Darla (and Fred) in Lullaby, and the Willow/Xander moment in Grave. 🙂

Series: I watched Angel before Buffy because I found the episodes earlier. Well, If i had to choose I would say Buffy until s5...and after that Angel rules the game. I prefer season 3 and 4 of Angel from s6 and s7 of Buffy. And s5 of Angel is also well made. So clearly it has to do with the seasons.Until s5 BtVs kept its true essence. After that I liked it but I think it lost some basic elements.

Season: Season 2 of Buffy is my all time favourite. I still rewatch it whenever I have the chance. Also s3 comes really close. From Ats I LOVE s1 mostly.

Episode: Too many!!! "Surprise/Innocence" comes first in Buffy. Then, Becoming(both parts), Passion, Prophecy Girl, Amends, Graduation Day pt2, Primeval, The gift...so many to choose!:biggrin3:

From AtS, Five by Five/Sanctuary for sure. IWRY is my personal favourite!!! And the Faith episodes from s4 rock!

Moment : whenever Buffy cries it gets me. Innocence, The Prom. Whenever Angel looks at her with so much love! When Angel bites Buffy, the Innocence flashback lovemaking! The kiss before she kills him in Becoming. The words she says to DAwn before she jumps!

From Angel, the moment before he alters reality, the moment he shares with his son. The phrase Connor said about his father in s5. In Five by Five, Faith crying in Angel's arms. In IWRY the whole episode!!! So many to choose. In You;re welcome the tears in Angel's eyes when he picks up the phone and finds out about Cordy!!!:cry3:

This is a cool idea and I hope more members here post their thoughts!

Here are mine.

Series: It is VERY hard for me to choose here. I think BtVS is a lot more funny and campy. Angel is darker and more mature at times. My favorite usually depends on my mood of the moment. Right now i'd say BtVS. But again i'd probably say they're equal for me if someone randomly asked me.

Seasons: BtVS is S5, Angel is S4. For Buffy it's again CLOSE, I like s2 and 3 a lot too but s5 usually win out because it has more realistic drama to me, and also I really liked Buffy/SMG in that season. Also the last season where Giles was awesome =/

As for Angel, I know it isn't a popular choice here. I know why peoples don't like it. But as for me, when I watched that season I was SO freaking hooked I got so much into it. No other seasons in the series had that effect on me. I think it's mostly because of the main arc(up until Jasmine, it was less fun once there for me), and there was so many shocking moments for me through those first fifteens/sixteens episodes. As an example... I always complained about how I hated the fact there was so many peoples in BtVS in s7, too many boring and useless characters. Well in Angel S4, at the point where the Beast is out, Lilah get into it, you got Gavin(which I expected to be a bigger player in the end), Faith, Angelus and the whole group with Gwen, it's awesome! There's a bunch of characters but they actually work with the story and ain't just there for background. I have so much to say about that season... First episode is AWESOME and then the premise with Cordy coming back, the hilarious 'Spin the bottle' episode, and then you got that spooky and also unexpected episode where W&H get destroyed. The Beast, then guessing who is behind all this(sadly it wasn't as great a reveal as it could have been). Then right in the mix of all that stuff, you bring Angelus back and you got neat confrontations between each character and him. Followed by Faith coming back and actually being the 'hero' somewhat =P I just loved that season. I'll save some parts for the 'best moments' down there though lol!

Episodes: This is tricky, because you wanna pick one episode that stand out by itself, not a bigger arc like what I was mentioning up there. It's between 'You're Welcome' and 'Smile Time' for Angel. Actually as stand out episodes go in Angel, they are mostly in s5 for me =P Smile Time win it for me in the end just because Angel as a puppet is hilariously good, his frown and then vampire puppet!!!! HAHAHAHA!

As for BtVS, Band Candy is really up there. Everyone is hilarious in that episode, and you got Ethan! It's just an episode i'll never get tired of. Total comedy. Obviously Hush was really good too, and all the others well known episodes like OMWF, The Gift and such. Oh and I can't forget Restless, that was amazing and I watched it countless times to decipher every scene meaning. But since I got to make a choice, i'll pick Band Candy, it's just such good fun!

Moments: Now there's a lot!

Angel

- Spike narrating the whole scene in 'In The Dark' after Angel saved a girl, 'To the Angelmobile, away!' hahahaha.
- Buffy crying and looking so desesperate in IWRY when there is less than a minute left =( That was sad.
- Faith going crazy on Angel at the end of 'Five by Five' and asking him to kill her. That whole scene with Wes dropping the knife at the end while the rain kept pouring was really something.
- When Angel finally get mad and snap at Kate after both his friends got really hurt and she started bitching at him again. Oh my god, I was like, ABOUT TIME!
- Angel firing his friends =(
- When Wes come tell him that even if he stopped, they will keep up the good fight, and Angel stay silent and then tell himself 'let them do the good fight, someone has to do the war'.
- Lindsey whole scene in W&H room when he talk about his 'new hand' and how he doesn't control it. That was both hilarious and great. Because he actually saved Lilah right there.
- Cordy yelling like crazy when Lorne's head start talking(after being cut), HAHAHAHAHA! That was awesome =P
- The whole taken hostage scene at Caritas with Gunn's old crew. I always liked that part! Go Fred!
- Scene in 'Billy' when Fred come to see Wes after what happened and he start crying after she goes.
- Darla staking herself to give birth to Connor... another scene in the rain. I love those.
- In 'Couplet', when Angel compare his height to Groo, hahahah! That's why you like Angel!
- When Wes plan on taking Connor and Lorne appear and he read him. That scene make me feel bad for both =x Wes 'betraying' is sad but understandable.
- ****Most likely biggest shocking moment for me in Angel**** Angel coming to see Wes at the hospital, acting alright with his friends and talking nicely to Wes until he just suddently try to smother him and goes totally crazy.
- When that huge demon comes out of the gate in 'The Prize' and then Connor appear and kill it in one hit just before saying 'Hi Dad'! Always give me chills.
- Last scene in 'Tomorrow' with Cordy going up and Angel down.
- Shocking moment for me was when Fred come up with food for Connor in 'Deep Down' and then just suddently(kinda like Angel with Wes previously) tell him she hope he suffers and use a stun gun on him.
- Also the scene when Angel has a daddy-son talk with Connor right after is pretty good.
- Wes karate chops, Angel touching his throat after he realize he doesn't have an accent(LOL!) and Angel reaction when he see he has no reflection in 'Spin the Bottle'.
- Fight scene with the Beast on top of that building, Wes is bad ass there =P
- Opening scene of Long Day's Journey with Gwen and that guy who just get killed suddently by the Beast. That was a shock.
- Realizing Angel was just dreaming about the whole story in 'Awakening' and then hearing Angelus laugh(great!). I sure didn't see that coming the first time.
- 'Evil' Cordy killing Lilah with the knife... that was another freaking shocker for me.
- Lorne's 'magic eight ball'. Cordelia has been a bad girl! Hahaha.
- Fred walking alone with that eery music and everyone kneeling to Jasmine at the end of 'Shiny Happy People'.
- Even though I knew that one(sadly!), Spike coming out of the amulet and the reaction of everyone, awesome!
- Wes killing his 'Father' without ANY hesitations... that was a huge shock right up there for me.
- The scene with the phone at the end of 'You're Welcome' when Angel find out Cordy never woke up(and is dead) =( Saddest moment for me.
- Puppet Angel with his sword walking out of his office with Wes and Fred behind, lmao!
- Puppet Angel turns into Vampire Puppet Angel!
- Fred painful death in the arms of Wes =( That was awesome acting on both sides.
- Kick ass scene in 'Time Bomb' where Illyria kill the whole group in a few seconds... love how Angel turn to dust while flying, lol.
- When Angel reveal his plan to his friends and they all lift their hands.
- Last look between Wes and Angel.
- 'Do you want me to lie to you now?'
- And obviously the alley scene where Gunn says 'You take the 30,000 on the left...' and Angel close it with my favorite quote 'Let's go to work!'.

Buffy(i'm gonna cut down on the number of moments here, lol =P)

- Xander yellow crayon speech to Willow at the end of s6.
- Buffy running to catch Riley in time.
- Final scene in the Gift with everyone staring at Buffy's corpse.
- Buffy killing Angel and the whole part after =(
- Buffy's 'Mommy' at the start of 'The Body'.
- The scene from my sig.
- Whole scene in Earshot in the library when they find out Buffy can read minds.
- Scene in Band Candy with Buffy interrogating Ethan and Giles cheering her on to hit him, haha!
- Buffy smashing the Master's bones in 'When she was bad'.
- Giles finding the note left by Ethan at the end of 'The Dark Age'.
- Angel yelling Buffy's name after they slept together in Surprise and that he's about to lose his soul in that alley.
- Rocket launcher, need I say more?!
- Argue between Buff and Xander in 'Dead Man's Party'.
- Angel appearing at the end of 'Faith, Hope and Trick'.
- Scene at the end of 'Amends' when Angel and Buffy talk before the sun comes up.
- Xander not telling anyone anything at the end of 'The Zeppo'.
- 'Best Actor' 'No, second best' moment in 'Enemies'.
- Scene in the school with the Mayor and everyone in 'Choices'.
- Dream sequence in 'Graduation Part II'.
- Everyone standing up for Tara in 'Family'.
- Pissed off Willow in 'Tough Love' when she tells Glory 'I owe you pain!'.
- Showdown between Giles and Willow in 'Grave'.
- Dawn scene in 'Conversations with Dead People' when she keeps yelling to that thing to get out of the house, LOL! Go Dawn.
- When you see what Buffy saw(the huge army of Uber Vamps).
- Scene between Buffy and Spike in 'Touched' when she ask him to stay.
- Spike snapping at everyone for kicking Buffy out of her house.

Vengeance
that's a lot of moments! haha

Big Damn Hero
I completely agree with all of this, except Angel is better than Buffy lol!
Buffy is definitely my favorite series. My favorite episodes would be Welcome To The Hellmouth, Never Kill A Boy On The First Date, Angel, Prophecy Girl, When She Was Bad, Lie To Me, Suprise, Innocence, I Only Have Eyes For You, Becoming Parts 1 & 2, Homecoming, Band Candy, Bad Girls, Consequences, Choices, The Prom, Graduation Day Parts 1 & 2, The Harsh Light Of Day, Wild At Heart, Something Blue, Hush, The I In Team, This Year's Girl, Who Are You, New Moon Rising, No Place Like Home, Family, Fool For Love, Into The Woods, The Body, Forever, The Gift, Once More With Feeling, Tabula Rasa, Wrecked, Entropy, Seeing Red, Grave, Beneath You, Help, Selfless, Conversations With Dead People, Dirty Girls, End Of Days & Chosen. There's way too many moments to list. 🙂

I can't really list my favorite eps from the whole Angel series because I've only watched it all the way through once, although I've seen seasons one & two a couple of times. So once I watch it more & memorize more of it, I will be able to pick my favorite episodes, etc. I do love season one though & I know I looooved season 3 & 4. Season 5 was okay to me, I thought it kind of lost what was so special about it. I didn't like the whole Fred/Illyria storyline. But the 100th episode with Cordy was amazing.

Series

Angel- I tend to enjoy it more than I do Buffy. The characters are also more likeable in my opinion. Most of the characters on BtVS had something that turned me off. Xander and his obsession with Buffy, Willow turned into a bitch, Giles was a bore sometimes, Angel was nothing but Buffy's lapdog, Dawn was annoying as hell when she first appeared, etc. Also, the character growth wasn't as obvious as it was on Angel.

Seasons

BtVS Season 3- This is the season that makes Buffy for me. The storyline with The Mayor and Faith was awesome. The Scoobies were still in high school but seemed grown up. We also have Angel and Cordelia still on the show. Not to mention the introduction of Faith, Anya, and Wesley who went on to become important characters in the Buffyverse. It also had some amazing episodes: Homecoming, Band Candy, Lover's Walk, The Wish, The Zeppo, Earshot, DoppelGanger, The Prom, and Graduation.

Angel Season 3- This is my favorite season for a lot of reasons. I loved the growth Cordy went through whether the whole thing was a sham or not. I liked the relationship that was forming between Cordelia and Angel. I also liked the whole pregnant Darla storyline and seeing Angel as a father. The Connor storyline was great too. It's a shame he was a pain the season after. Lilah came into her own this season. She felt like a strong and worthy villain and was no longer in Lindsey's shadow. This was also the last season where the AI team felt like a family. Afterwards, it was like they were just co-workers who couldn't stand to be around each other.

Episodes

Tabula Rasa- A great episode where we have all of the Scoobies in one room interacting with each other. We hardly got that in the later seasons. It was also a hilarious episode.

You're Welcome- We get Cordelia back to show us that she still runs AI even if she was in a coma for almost a year. The ending was very sweet too.

Moments

Too many to list.

Series: Angel.
I just liked the characters better, especially Angel compared to Buffy who could be very unlikeable on occasions. Love Buffy as well but Angel just edges it, more adult, darker show.

Season: Angel Season 5.
My favourite Buffyverse season, its got so many of my favourite episodes and i love how the first half is light and hilarious and the last half just does a complete 180 and goes all dark.

Episode: Not Fade Away is the best episode of tv i have ever seen, just perfect.

Moment: Angel -Angel trying to kill Wesley in that hospital scene.
-Angel closing the doors on W&H in the scene with Darla and Dru
-Rooftop Fight scene in Apocalypse Nowish
-Puppet Angel
-The whole of Not Fade Away

And so much more

Buffy-Xander saving the world in 'Grave'
-Angelus killing Jenny
-Spike going out for a walk. Bitch.

And many more

Series - Definitely Buffy. Not even a question. There's something I like about every episode, even the unpopular ones. There are vast swaths of AtS that I find dull and difficult to watch.

Season - Buffy: I vascillate between S6 and S2. I love the grittiness of S6, but S2 is the season where I became obsessed. Right now, I'm going to say S2, eventhough there are many other posts on this BB where I proclaim my love of S6. It'll probably change tomorrow.
Angel: S5. Spike really brings a new zest to the series, as much as I miss Cordy.

Episode - Buffy: OMWF. I never get tired of watching it, or listening to the soundtrack.
Angel - Darla. She's awesome.

Moment - I'm gonna force myself to pick one for each series, which is painful.
Buffy - Her "Will you stand up" speech in Chosen. I still cry when the slayers are called around the world.
Angel - Buffy and Spike standing in the square arguing about who saved the world more times in the The Girl in Question. Hilarious.
(Disclaimer: The above listed "favorite moments" may change at any time without notice.)

Two of some of the most amazing moments ever seen that I forgot to mention: That moment between Fred and Wesley when he's leaning against the door, crying, Fred stares at the closed door wishing that she could help, then turns and walks away.

Also, that scene in The Wish when Xander bites Cordy, Willow bites Cordelia, and then Xander wraps his hand around Willow's next. Just... Unbelievable. 😀

Series:

Ats
I simply enjoy the stories and the characters more. It's so wonderfully assymmetrical and it focuses not on getting the bad guys but on human dignity.

Season:
For Angel, sometimes it's Season 2 but I'll have to say Season 4. Mostly for dark Wes, Faith and the Jasmine storyline. Yep you heard right, Jasmine. For Btvs, Season 2. It's the Season that got me hooked. You have Angelus, Spike and Dru. What more could one want?

Episode

For Ats, Sanctuary. Nummy Faith goodness. For Btvs? Probably Passion, because it's Angelus at his sadistic best.

Moment

For Ats, Angel's Epiphany speech and on Btvs, not sure, maybe when we find out Angel is Angelus.

Series: Angel
I watched everything in order, and I love pretty much every episode of both shows, but I have to give it to Angel.

Season: Buffy S3; Angel S1
Buffy S3 was by far Joss' best work imo. Every episode was perfect. The single quibble is that Spike wasn't a big part, but his one episode was amazing. Aside from Doyle, all of my favorite characters had major parts in S3, and it's easily my favorite season of any series of any show ever made.

Angel S1 was great. The rest of the series was still great, just not as great.

Episode: Angel - "Hero"
Buffy "Graduation Day"

"Hero" was the first big loss of the Buffyverse. Sure we lost Jenny, which was a huge moment, but that's not quite the same as Angel losing pretty much the first friend he'd ever had in his enormously long life.

"Graduation Day" catalyzed the rest of the entire Buffyverse. I have more fun watching "Once More With Feeling," but "Graduation Day" is unrivaled in significance.

Moment: Angel
You're Welcome's closure on Cordy, Doyle & Lindsey.

I stole it from Queen Crabbit 🙂 But how can you not choose this? As Lindsey said, this was a defining moment, and created the Angel we're seeing now.

Buffy
Graduation Day's end.

Also stolen from Queen Crabbit 🙂 But another no contest. This episode was Buffy's landmark.

Series:

Angel
Not a hard question for me, don't get me wrong I love BtVS, but the scripts, acting, production & storylines are all (imo) better in AtS.

Season:

Angel Season 3:
A string of brilliantly realised episodes. You had comedy, tragedy & everything in between. Julie Benz' arc in this season is my favourite arc in the 'verse. Her acting is peerless, seriously she just blows everyone away imo.

Buffy Season 4:
I'm actually struggling to say why this is my fav season of the Buff, but it is. It's the one I consistantly watch again & again. Got no great explanation, soz.

Episode:

Angel - Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?
I know, it's not from my fav season but It's such a great piece of television that I don't care. Always felt this should have been the season opener, can't understand why it wasn't. The plot is great, the acting is top-notch & the production is brilliant.

Buffy - Restless
What can I say about this ep. It draws from one of my fav shows, Twin Peaks and the concept of doing a season finale the ep after the big-bad gets scragged is a hit with me. And as for the cheese man, just so frickin' random & awesome.

Moment:

Right I'm splitting this into sub catergories:
Romantic
Comedic &
Violence, yay!
I hope they speak for themselves.

Angel:
Romantic - Cordy & Angel falling asleep on the bed with baby Connor at the end of Provider.

Comedic - Angel dancing in She, the hand-clappy move is utterly priceless. The only thing that has ever made me laugh as much is the "she's dead" gag from the pilot of Firefly.

Violence, yay! - The Beast laying the smackdown on AI in Apocalypse Now-ish is just pure brilliance.

Buffy:
Romantic - Buffy & Angel on the hilltop in Amends, 'nuff said.

Comedic - Willow & Xander's faces in Where the Wild Things Are when they find Giles during his "adult time".

Violence, yay ! - The last 10 minutes of Chosen would be hard to beat... but if they could be it would be the fight scene in Lover's Walk, just because I think(correct me if I'm wrong) it's the only time we ever get to see Buffy, Angel & Spike throwdown on the same team.

so many.

buffy getting the "school protector" award.

willow teleporting glory away with a clap of her hands.

xander walking away from cordelia with a wry grin at the end of "the zeppo".

mostly the moments where the character realizes his or her true power...moments of heroism...like when chanterelle pushes the demon off the ledge just as he's shouting "you're all nothing" or when buffys mom confronts snyder into reaccepting buffy back into school.

i loved principal flute getting eaten during "the pack"...while snyder came through with the good evil intentions for buffy i always thought it would make a funny running gag to have each new dean of students get deaded so that by the time everyone graduated there would have been like twelve.
