I was curious as to what everyone's favourite Spuffy quotes were. That is, anything they've said to or about each other. For me, it's got to be the Touched monologue, but an honorary mention goes to the "I'm drowning in you" monologue from Crush. Something about the desperation in his voice always gets me, it's so raw and powerful.

I'm gonna pass on all the big, famous quotes and go with the "little moments."

Like in "Entropy" at Xander's wedding, the smile she gives him when he tells her she "glows", and Buffy says the dress is radioactive.

In "Life Serial" - And the smile Spike gives her when they're drinking in his crypt, after the sour look on her face when she takes the shot of whiskey.

But I'd say my favorite quote about the couple is what Hercules T. Strong once said: "Spike has earned Buffy's love in ways Angel couldn't contemplate."

Ooh, yes! I hate to correct you because I don't want to come off as condescending but the episode was actually Hell's Bells, not Entropy! However, I totally agree with you. That's one of those moments that let us know that Spike really was capable of selfless love for Buffy, and Buffy really was fond of Spike, even before season seven. Spike telling Buffy that she "glows" always felt like a little wink wink nudge nudge to when Angel told her that she "deserves someone who can take her into the light." (And don't even get me started on the fire and light motif in their shared journey).

In Intervention when Buffy is (at first) impersonating the Buffybot, and in The Gift when Spike gives the “but you treat me like a man” speech.

🙂

Damn, you're right! I stand corrected! I was multitasking when I wrote that. How embarsssing...A big fan of myself should know what episode that was! Ha!
Ooh, I had never thought of that connection with that Angel said - good observation!
And yes I love their fire theme! And I love more the whole ongoing theme of him being her "dark place"...so good.

Also here, if you're so inclined, read my little Spuffy manifesto on my old LJ I wrote a long time ago. I think you will like it! I discuss the fire theme in it.
If you click the spuffy tag on the left you'll find tons of posts with Spuffy content.

And lastly here are some other quotes about Spuffy I really like:

"In a lot of ways, Buffy's relationship with Spike is the most normal relationship she has ever had. There are no secrets between them. When she first met Angel, he kept his vampire identity a secret. And it wasn't until it was too late that she found out all the details of the spell. Parker posed as a nice guy, but was just looking for another notch on his bed post. Riley turned out to be part of an experiment and half brother to a cyborg monster. Each of these lovers turned into something Buffy definitely did not want. But Spike is what he appears to be. Buffy knows all his failings and if he has any surprises, they are positive ones. It's interesting that this is the hardest relationship for Buffy to commit to while at the same time being the most honest and open of her relationships. She deceives her friends, but she and Spike do not deceive each other. "
~ Jenoff

"Different people certainly have different ideas about the relationship between Buffy and Spike, but to me this thing about him being her dark place feels very consistent. That seems to be a very unchanging aspect of their relationship. She could share things with him that she couldn't share with anybody else in part because she knew she wouldn't be judged. And it's not just that he's "the bad boy." There's a real level of understanding between the two of them." ~ Scott Allie

"Spike's the only one who can back Buffy without holding back. He has unconditional support, and I think there is a place for your friends to call you on your bullshit, and Spike will do that for Buffy. He will point out where she's being psychotic, but he's always going to have her back. As good as her other friends are -- and ultimately they want the best for her -- they're not above bad feelings. Spike's maybe the only one who can be completely behind her and completely ready to move to the next chapter. That's what you're seeing here. He just wants to face stuff, and that's partly because he wasn't stuck in the middle of "Season 8" and dealing with these things. He wants to move forward, and she completely cannot." -- Scott Allie

YES, I love that one! I also love it when he says “being with you touches me more than I can say,” and “You’re scared, ashamed of what you feel, can’t tell the ones you love, you know they couldn’t deal, whisper in a dead man’s ear, doesn’t make it real.” Something about the delivery is very powerful.

YES, yes to all of this! And going off of my original thought, I find it interesting how it’s actually Buffy who brings Spike into the light even more so than the other way around. And since Spike represents a shadow and extension of Buffy’s own self, her inner demon to get specific, by bringing him into the light she’s also reconnecting with her own light while also making peace with her inner darkness.

Something I find fascinating is that no matter how many times Buffy tries to convince herself that she doesn’t trust Spike, her actions contradict her words time after time again. You’re totally right, there is a foundation of trust and honesty there that was lacking in Buffy’s other relationships. Even at their most toxic, Buffy and Spike never lied to each other, and never tried to pretend to be anything they weren’t.

I love both scenes! I find it interesting how in the Intervention scene, Spike says that he “couldn’t live, her being in that much pain,” when he’s technically already dead. It’s significant because it articulates how his love for her makes him feel alive again.
