Favourite version of Angel?

I'm putting Angelus as two different versions, as I found the version on the Angel TV show more reined-in, for some reason!

Actually like Angel of Angel season one best. Before Darla obsession.

I like Angel throughout Angel and (purely in the sense of finding the character interesting) in the Angelus story in Season 2 of Buffy. Buffy-loving Angel is dull to me. What seeing Angel really made me realize is that he's a great character, as long as he's not pining over Buffy.

Angel in AtS 5 is peak Angel. It's like, finally we get why both the PtB and the dark powers want this guy on their side during an apocalypse. They don't want Angelus, or nihilistic Angel, or dork Angel, they want the version that even when he's surrounded on all side by enemies will nonetheless do what it takes to lead fellow champions and outsmart/defeat the bad guys.

I also like S1 Angel as well and the journey he goes on, discovering his mission and finding his place in the world; being a guy others can count on.


Worst version of Angel; S3 Angel, dorky Dad/Cangel cretin that he was. Only improves, belatedly, when he's fighting for his son (either baby or teen Connor) but even then he gets outsmarted and loses.
