Favourite Whedonverse Cultural References

I actually don't like the cultural refferences. I get like only 5 percent of them at max and that's only when other people explain them to me. It makes me feel really dumb.

Only one I ever got was Kit and Carlos from 7.01 Lessons, those two "friends" of Dawn's... they were named after Julia Robert's prostitute friend and her pimp from Pretty Woman. I only got that one, 'cause I watched that movie the night before.

Hey Ally. Nice to see you back. You were wondering how to do these. Run your cursor over the scale at the top of any post.

Yes. That's the one. That demon looked very Creature of the Black Lagoon to me.

But ya know?... Now that I go back and re-read it, I wonder what I was thinking. It sounds much different.

Im partial of the line “Faster, pussycat, kill, kill.” I dunno what its referring to but good to slip into conversations.

Oh and in Fredless when Fred's mom said her husband fell asleep during the 4th Aliens film, which Joss wrote.

Faster, pussycat, kill, kill was a Russ Meyer movie. Meyer used to do these campy, soft-core movies that always involved women with abnormally large chests. I think he was mostly early 70s. I know Russ Meyer movies have a cult following that continues today.

On Alien Resurrection; I continue to maintain the end of that movie was practically cloned as the end of Chosen.

And on that Creature of the Black Lagoon/The Wish reference, now that I see the screenshot, I have to admit I was wrong. Again, I don't know what I was thinking. The 2 monsters are alike only in that they both have that "man in a rubber suit" look of early monster flics. It's not like the worm in Beneath you which was almost an under-sized replica of the Tremors worm.

I think there is another Creature of the Black lagoon reference in Doppelgangland. Anya says something about it when the vamp discoveres that Willow is just Willow and now vamp Willow at the Bronze.

Oh I've found another favorite reference ;
Aren't you the regular Hans Christian Tarantino?

Lorne to Angel in Through the Lookin glass. Love that quote.

Hehe, I watched that episode last night, love it.
Another Tarantino one (that I have to love just 'cause it's Tarantino) is When you do find him, you may want to be a little more Guy Pierce in LA Confidential, and a little less Michael Madsen in Reservoir Dogs. (Cordelia to Gunn, of course.)

I found the other HomestarRunner reference. It's in the Angel episode Girl in Question.

# In this ep when Angel and Spike first see Andrew he is wearing a shirt with a character named StrongBad on it...you can find StrongBad and his pals at www.homestarrunner.com. StrongBad's emails are pretty funny!

From TVTome.com

Thanks n4h, good to know! And the Homestarrunner reference is Andrew, again associated with Strongbad. I think the evidence here points to something very profound...That Andrew is a huge geek with a LOT of time on his hands...and so am I. 😀
