Feelings on the ironic cut away?

Its something which is used a lot on both shows, but mostly Buffy. Its where a character will say something in one scene about another character and then it cuts to a shot of that character being the excate opposite of what has just be described. With Buffy it does fit the ironic, subversion tone of the show.

But do you think that they used it too much and did it become too destracting after awhile?

Yeah, the Description Cut is generally pretty corny. That said I think they typically pulled it off well and kept it within the proper tone of the show. I don't think they used it too often, but then again one of my favorite things about Buffy is that the humor is very self-aware which helps keep it from being too cheesy.

I love them. It's a huge part of what I like about Buffy, the humor.
Sure, they might be quite predictable many times but they still never fail to put a smile on my face.

Never thought that they did too much of it. Not sure that I would want more either though.
Think they did a pretty good job with them overall.

I've never thought about it before, but they do it in the comics too 🙂 I quite like it, as it's usually done to be humourous, and Buffy did it so well

I loved when Buffy was saying "I never stopped thinking about you" and it was on Faith, and then it cut to her and Riley...although it's different and I guess should be called the Subtext Cut lol

I think its fair to say that they do use it for character reasons and also for some darker moments like the example which @Monkey Pants pointed out? And I don't notice it that much so I guess tghat is a sign that it pretty much works.

What do people think about when Angel uses it?

I don't mind it. I do think if used too much it'll be cringe-worthy. The show didn't overuse it IMO.

I do like the cut aways. The show doesn't over do it. I like Faith as Buffy saying she's going to go patrol and then cuts away to her dancing at the Bronze. It does fit the tone of Buffy more than it does on Angel. But I don't mind it on Angel either if it's done right. Like Cordelia talking to Doyle in IWRY. she says there's no way Buffy and Angel are just talking drinking tea and then it cuts away and that's just what they are doing. Lol. That works for me.

Honestly I've laughed more at Buffy and Angel than many so-called comedy movies!

It fits the subversion nature of both shows too, mostly Buffy. As long as it serves its function then I don't have an issue with it really.

I never really noticed until you brought it up, so in my opinion that's an indication that it works well with the shows 🙂

I don't know about it's use in Angel, but when they did it in Buffy it was usually funny, and it was nice to have a little smile to cut the drama/horror etc. I enjoyed it.

What I think was totally campy, cliche' and WAY overused was having people walking away from each other at the end of episodes. The slow pull out...as they walk away

yes, but there are other characters on the show beisdes him. And something tells me even he doesn't have control over the ironic cut aways😉
