I felt sorry for Spike a lot in Season 5, but not really in Season 6. He pretty much reverts to form- it's only the attempted rape that snaps him from his downward spiral to go and do something.
Although the scene with him and Dawn reminds me, wasn't there a point in his life that Spike gave a crap about Dawn, that he actually cared for her?
