Fergie mangles the National Anthem

Why was it mangled? It sounded all sexy and sultry.

I guess I just don't associate singing the national anthem as honoring the nation... at least not anymore.

The national anthem of any country has specific lyrics and it has a specific tune. The National Anthem is the national anthem
ANY deviation from that means it is a different song. So if the person is paid to sing the national anthem and puts her own
interpretation as the performance why isn't that person taken to court for breach of contract?
 
Nothing could ever be as bad as Roseanne Barr's rendition :S

True. Roseanne definitely got up there to intentionally be a bad performer though (which was disrespectful). I think Fergie was aiming for a great performance and...well...

Roseanne screwed up on purpose. Fergie was actually serious. lol
I felt bad for laughing so much at this! Thing is, I think she was genuinely surprised when people didn't like it, because she was definitely feeling her performance. The basketball players faces are the best.
 
Has there ever been a good rendition? I thought it was a running joke that the anthem was a mission to get through before the game.
 
She just consistently emphasizes the wrong words all the way through, and puts in her own ill-advised flourishes.
