How often do you get to wake up to a good news story like this? Someone finally taking a stand against FIFA and law enforcement going after filthy rich financial crooks? It's early days but this has made my morning, fingers crossed something sticks and they take a look at the whole organisation. Maybe we'll get a few bankers eventually as well. Anyway not much of a thread idea but feel free to celebrate here.

Yeah, I'm not sure what Qatar has given back to the world of football in the past 100 years and why it makes them a viable choice to host.

Everyone knew that it was a choice due to corruption, I just don't think anyone actually believed that they would actually be pulled up on it. Really pleased to hear it.

I thought they were out of everyone's jurisdiction and were above the law. I half expected to hear about them robbing banks and carrying on as normal.

Switzerland has started putting more effort into fighting international white-collar crime in the recent years, mostly because of American and European pressure - for the last 100 or so years it used to be the place to launder money and/or evade taxes. It still is but things are definitely changing.

Maybe we'll get a few bankers eventually as well.

There's a big war going on in Middle East right now. The fanatics are looking for god but the leaders and the mercenaries are looking for money. Somebody will have to launder all that cash and some bankers might just get greedy and stupid enough to actually help with that. Then the usual too big to fail might suddenly stop working.

I sure hope that they finally get Sepp Blatter (he who claimed that there was NO corruption in football). If he gets re-elected then there really isn't any hope for FIFA in the future.

When he gets re-elected today it'll be time for UEFA to step up and take responsibility. It'll be horrible to have competing world governing bodies but it's the only option for a few years. I think UEFA has a large enough power base now that FIFA would collapse without their backing.
