Hi everyone,

I am back after a few weeks of absence. Sorry for that.

I have a new computer and I am desperelty searching for a good p2p program. I am hesitant in installing KaZaa it screwed up my other computer. I am tryine I Mesh, but nothing seems to load (except music).

I download episodes of tv shows. Anyone has any suggestions ?

Damn. I guess I'm the first mod to see this, so it's going to fall upon me to explain the official party line.

You can't use this site to tell others how to download copyrighted material.

Sounds harsh I know, but if you'd like to see why that is, go here.

Now as far as filesharing programs themselves go, they are not illegal. I don't see why it would be wrong to discuss them providing the subject of how to download copyrighted materials is not brought up.

We'll have to wait for the official word from Faith or Buffy Summers on that. For now I would suggest editing your post to remove the bit about downloading TV programs.

You can find all the information you require on Filesharing programs, and discussions of their legality here http://zeropaid.com/

Well there is no problem then cause I never told anyone HOW to search for them.

As N4H pointed out the software itself is not illegal although technically it is a very thin line as the software is used to commit illegal offences, I will leave it open for now as long as it does not stray. I'm sure you can understand why we have to be careful as it can lead to the site being closed down.

Didn't click on the link, didja?

Not a problem, I'll explain it to you.

20th century Fox owns the intellectual property rights to all things Buffy or Angel. What this means is they decide how or if such things as Buffy or Angel graphics can be used. When the episodes are sold to DVD, Fox has their hands in it. They don't want people giving the episodes away freely.

If a website were to offer information how to accomplish this, there's a strong possibility the site would receive a notice from Fox's lawyer's telling the owners to remove all Buffy or Angel related graphics, or text copied from the programs. This in effect shuts the site down, because all you have is lines and lines of opinions.

We know they might do this because, if you had clicked on the link, you'd see they've done it in the past. Do you get it now? Fine let's move on.

Won't click on a link, eh? Then I'm guessing you still need the information you requested on filesharing progams. You know what? Even though you're being a little nasty to me, I'm going to be a nice guy to you, and give you the information you requested.

File Sharing Programs to Replace Kaza

Kazaa is having problems. It brought most of them on itself. The program comes with spyware. There are many corrupt or bogus files on the system. There are also Kazaa specific viruses, and a greater possibility of picking up other viruses now targeting filesharer programs. Also, historically, you have a better chance of being sued by organzations such as the RIAA while using Kazaa. Here are some programs you might use to replace Kazaa

WinMx - Spyware Free. Allows sharing of multi-format files. Well-established community. It hasn't had an update in a long time, so it's a little behind the times, but there is an update coming. It is in beta, so wait a month or so, until the new program comes out.

Limewire - Used to contain spyware, but a new one has come out that claims to be spyware free. I've heard some good reports on it. I suggest going to download.com to check it out. You can read the user reviews, and decide better from there.

Ares - The new kid on the block. The knock against it used to be that it didn't have enough users to provide a large selection of files. It continues to get popular, and is worth a look. If you decide to use it, be careful during install. It offers you a plug-in that is spyware. Refuse it.

Shareaza - I use it. I like it. Spyware free. Uses the Gnutella, Gnutella2 and edonkey networks, so there is a large assortment of files. Spyware-free, allows you to use torrents.

Bit Torrent - I don't know much about it, but a lot of people swear by it. They say it's fast.

Soulseek - They say this is the best one for obscure files.

Mute - They recommend this one if you want to keep your actions private. I think it might be a little complex for new users.

Edonkey - I'm not sure. I think this one might have spyware, but I've heard it recommended for larger files.

The Lites - There are hacked versions of fileshare programs that use spyware. The lite versions remove the spyware. A few examples are KCeasy for kazaa. Grokster lite. Imesh lite, etc. The legality of such programs is tricky, but so far as I know no-one's been sued for using them, although you could still be sued for uploading copyrighted files, and the corrupt files and viruses will still be there on Kazaa, even if you use a lite version.

So there you have it. There's some info for you, now do me a favour and calm down will you. It's a little irritating when you're trying to help someone, and they get all snarky on you.

This is all I wanted. thanks alot. You can ask the admin to remove this entire section if you would like... TO be sure we dont get shut down

Have a nice day
