Filler Episode

castnoshadow's "Your Storyline" thread reminded me of a few filler episodes the writers wanted to do but never did for various reasons.

Jane Espenson mentioned in a commentary wanting to do an episode where one of the Scoobies' jobs started making them physically old and another where one of the Scoobies shrunk.

Is there any "filler" idea you can think of that would have made a good episode (not major canonical changes otherwise it'll just be the same as the "Your Storyline" thread.)

I kind of would have liked to see an episode where Willow pushed herself too hard academically with supernatural repercussions or maybe the teachers got possessed or something. (Sorry I'm not feeling too creative right now).

I know it sounds delightfully tacky... But hey - so does the idea of a damn musical episode!

I would have liked to have seen the gang outside of Sunnydale a few times. It seemed stupid that they Buffy NEVER had to leave Sunnydale to fight evil and it would have been great to see them taking off to Mexico or New York to fight certain evils.

On a similar note to Cait's... I wanted one of the Scoobies to get their license and it be this big thing... and they ditch school (and Giles) and go on a trip to LA, and Buffy takes them to this shop she loves. And there's this demon there or the shop keeper is a witch or something... I something mystical and bad happens in LA and they have to deal with it without Giles. And they get back and Giles is all pissed and they're all like "this is why I'm glad we have you!" It could be fun and silly while also highlighting the importance of Giles' job and role.

That would have made a really good episode. Especially since Oz mentions having gigs in LA all the time.
I always thought it'd be funny and cool if everyone switched bodies with someone else. And then one of the scoobies would end up in someone's body who was up to something not good and they slowly find out. It would have gotten them into a lot of mischief and it could have been funny.

That would have been sweet!

A la "Superstar", perhaps a "Dawn the Vampire Slayer" episode? It would only have worked as a dream, but might have had more of an impact than "Potential" (since we would clearly see that Dawn has slayer powers).

Well, maybe an episode (probably using flashbacks) where Buffy tells Willow and Xander about how she became the Slayer and why she was expelled from Hemry. Or they have to go back to Hemry for some sort of school event.

Other than a huge sexual tension episode between Spike and Angel? OH wait, that already happened.

Hmm.

I like Cait's idea of them leaving Sunnydale, there's only so much SunnyD you can take. I can see them driving through New York with some cheesy teen song playing while the camera slowly zooms out from Giles' disapproving face. Giles and shopping, heh.

I would love to have seen an episode somewhere during the 5th or 6th Season where Buffy and Faith found themselves in a situation where they had to cooperate and even trust each other totally in order to survive (envision Quaid and Gossett in "Enemy Mine," or Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mefune in "Hell In The Pacific" or even Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr in "Heaven Knows, Mr Alison" to get exactly what I mean) Something like that would have allowed the two Slayers to become real friends, which is something that I always hoped for, and still do, in the series.

Maybe some sort of time machine where it takes them back and forth their history, past and future. That's really not original though.

And I really want to see a Slayer who's a vampire.

Buffy and Spike on a date, too!

I'd love Buffy to meet a slayer who had been turned
I mentioned this in another thread, but I would have loved to see an alternate reality in which Angelus had turned Buffy and Faith was the good Slayer...

Yeah, that would be interesting. Would Spike be the original vampire with the soul, helping Faith? That WOULD be interesting.
I kinda wish there had been a black and white episode. Like, the plot could have been all film noire-y or old school monster movie-esque (like the Supernatural episode "Monster Movie") so that it wouldn't have been completely random. Actually, my perfect imaginary scenario is one where instead of "Storyteller" (which drove me nuts), they did an episode that was an homage to Sunset Boulevard, where Andrew was telling the story of how he died from after the fact. Or maybe they could have done that with the episode where Jonathan died. It would have gone well with "Superstar".

A mix between A Wonderful Life and that Twilight Zone episode.. when Buffy complains about too many people wanting her time, she gets sent back in place of the first slayer.. and spends the rest of the episode with just her and demons (similar to the Space Above and Beyond episode which Joss borrowed from to make Hush) until she realizes that it's people that make her the slayer she is and poof, a bell rings and a fairy gets her wings. That would have been a good christmas episode.

Or maybe send her to the reality where she never went to Sunnydale, and meets Vamp Willow and Xander, and that particular version of Buffy so that she realizes that her could be a lot worse.

I liked Storyteller, but I won't lie.

I wish this was a thing.

I saw somebody made a fan fic with this sort of plot. Hopefully they didn't get the idea from me. :/

I wish they explored the dimensions a bit more. Like in Angel.

Lemme just steal two ideas from Spn: Western episode, they go into "our world" where they are actors.

Yes, I'm so creative. All my ideas from different shows. But still...Giles would be a damn good British cowboy! 😀

I would have liked to see an episode where Faith has had a good stable life like Buffy to see how they could have got on. Also I would have liked to see how buffy would turn out I'd she'd been brought up like Faith. Some kind of reality shift perhaps?
