Hi, something for those of us a bit obsessed with filling out the entire timeline in Buffyverse. For obvious reasons there isn't much information on activities between the televised seasons, but this could be helpful information for fanfiction authors specifically and for Buffy and Angel nerds in general.

I would like to start with the gap between seasons 5 and 6, since I have a personal interest in that one. What happened between these seasons? According to "canon", and in your mind? Are there any half-way canon novels or comics set in this timeframe (what about Amber Benson's "Wilderness")?

Here's what I can think of right away, as following from season 6:

- Buffy is in some "heavenly dimension"
- The gang buries Buffy's body in some woods and puts up a tombstone
- Willow and Tara moves in with Dawn in Buffy's house and they live there together
- The Buffybot is repaired somewhere along the way
- Willow gains the power of magic telephathy (conveniently forgotten later to not make things too easy)
- Some vampire slaying is going on without Buffy

What else? What's your favourite character up to during the hiatus?

Let me guess: there is an old thread on this, or an entire website somewhere. Pointers are appreciated, but there are still probably additions that can be made - from later novels, comics and commentaries.

im gonna say the dragon flew into one of the other dimensions to get that out of the way..... xander got a hair cut and some new bowling shoes

Thanks, had forgotten the dragon...
Spike is assisting the vampire hunting party and is Dawn's unofficial baby sitter, but as Xander points out later in Season 6, he is more utilized than accepted. They still see him only as a monster, and not someone that they can trust.

Thanks! Fits my view of Spike's role during this time.
You should check out the podcast "Buffy Between the Lines". It is an audio-drama that takes place in the time between seasons 5 and 6. It is high quality, well written and very interesting...

Buffy Between the Lines

Thanks for the tip! I'm interested in hearing about anything that refers to this time period. I've said this in another thread, but the reason is that I'm writing a novel of my own set in this period (just for fun and for practice, towards an actually publishable novel at some point). I don't want the events in my story to clash with anything many fans see as happening between these seasons - canon or not.

I would love to read some of it! I too love this time period (okay, maybe its because I love the characters of Willow, Xander, Anya, Tara, and Dawn and their relationship, functioning without Buffy and all that), and have searched for novels and fanfics on this particular period. There doesn't seem to be too many 🙁

And I have Buffy: Between the lines on my iTunes...it's great!

I would suggest checking out the old Buffy Dark Horse comics:
Lost & Found one-shot
Buffy #43-45
These directly deal with the time period you are asking about.

These are useful as perfect examples of what NOT to do.
They're spectacularly craptacular.

Thanks, I'll try to find them. Could you give me an outline of what happens?
I couldn't even begin to speculate about the specifics that could've happened during some of these times, but one untelevised event that I've always been curious about - Buffy and Angel's meeting after her ressurection. All we know is that it takes place eps 4 and 5 of both series(if I remember right), it took place somewhere other than Sunnydale or L.A., and that whatever happened - neither wanted to talk about it.

Agreed! That would be stuff for another story...
Thank you all for the tips, and for taking my "project" seriously. You don't have to tell me, I know perfectly well that it is a stupid thing to waste this much effort on. I would like to see if I can handle a full-lengh novel though.

The bad thing about writing a Buffyverse novel is that there is no use sending it off somewhere even if it turns out amazing, since they have stopped publishing them. The good thing is that whenever I fail in inspiration I just have to watch an episode... I'm my own hardest critic, so if you get to see anything of it, it's not going to be extremely crappy...

Please keep it coming if you think of anything else, even a year from now. I'm not going to be finished by then, that's for sure!

Good for me, though, less to clash with! I guess most people don't want to write a Buffy story without Buffy, but I think that situation can make for interesting emotional conflicts, not to mention that the world has to be saved even without Buffy...

Buffy Between the Lines

I checked out the "Between the lines" site briefly, and it's clear they don't leave me much room, starting right after S5 and ending just before S6. Guess I have to listen to it all and see if I can still squeeze in my story somewhere...

well they did do a comic issue that depicted what the scoobies thought went down between Buffy and Angel during their meeting.

But I like to think it was ofcourse dramatic with Angel wanting to come back and help Buffy, or help support her in some way and her refusing. I wonder if she told him where she went after death..
