Yesterday I bought the DVD 'Let the Right One In' a Swedish vampire film. It is a very good film with a different approach to vampire films, a sort of 'Love Horror'.

It does however have one real gaff. In the film Eli asks Oskar if she can come, the usual invite for a vampire scene. Oskar says okay and invites her into his bedroom, which in my opinion includes the whole flat. Later in the film Eli visits Oskar again, this time at the front door, she again asks for the invite! I always thought once invited always invited unles revoked by magic etc. Oskar never revoked his invite!

I daven't seen the movie in question, but I have seen several other vampire movies/tv shows in which "the rules" for vampire behavior aqnd limitations aren't always the same. In the "Blade" series of movies, vampires can be killed with silver bullets. In "Forever Knight, all vampires, not just Dracula, could morph into some sort of flying creature. I even recall a movie, "Innocent Blood," where all that it took to kill a vampire was ti sever the spinal cord at the base of the brain. Different authors put their own spin on exactly what a vampire can and cannot do. Trying to compare one character to the other and expecting complete consistency will be an exercise in frustration.

Actually there was a review of it in the same magazine that had the top 50 greatest Vampires (Spike won (sw) ) and it said it was one to watch.

And you know. Swedes are very polite. She didn't need to ask, she just did it to be polite. 😉


Now you can all go back to praising this movie while I'm gone. Since I don't see the greatness in it.

I agree, there are a lot of great foreign films out there. We have serval in Swedish, Japanese, Mongolian and German (and others).

The reason I like this paticular film is because the horror is not over the top and there is a subtle romantic story (the original Dracula story was a Gothic love story). I find with foreign films that you have to watch because of the sub-titles unless you can speak that particular language. A film in your language, lots can be missed because you are not taking full notice of what's said.

Still haven't seen the film,but it looks cool.
The french film"Them" is good too'and that has subtitles.
As for the gaff,i think she was just being polite.Interesting point if it is a misstakethough😉

I've seen 'Them' excellent film. There was even better one than that I've seen but can't remember the title. It's about a girl who stops at a cottage while there are bloody murders going on. At the end of the film you find it's actually her doing them!

Yea, I absolutely loved it. It's one of those movies that is so simple and yet strangely interesting. I think its one of those films you either find too slow, or you get immersed in and don't notice anything around you.

Makes for a reference quality blu ray too, the open snow scenes feel like your actually there.
