Help Film Studies Coursework

It's quite unrelated to Buffy and fandoms really. But I need a bit of help... I've spent my holiday trying to figure out what I'm going to do for a storyboard I have to create. Usually I'm pretty good at coming up with ideas but I've been stuck for so long and I need to take pictures for it tomorrow.

It's a bit of short notice, yes, but I'd really appreciate any ideas or pointers towards it...

The aim of the task is to create a storyboard of images from a selection of a scene of a film - I have to come up with the ideas and the story but it's only about 25 images I have to present. I reckon I'd get a lot more of an explanation and background if it is based in the horror genre or maybe mystery.. As after the storyboard I have to write an essay describing aspects such as Cinematography, Mise-en-scene...etc. I'm quite confident with that part of the task but it's just the idea of coming up with a concept for the scene. I'm really struggling

Creating my own scene for a movie, hence the struggle. Otherwise I think I would be sorted... My imagination has just come to a bit of a halt that's all. And I thought if other people would have some ideas or pointers, it would help me greatly

I always like stories where information getting into the wrong hands is a key part of the story. The most classic one I can think of is from a French literature course I took where the scene is quite simple:

A wealthy middle-aged marquis is holding a party and almost all the people he ever met arrive including the monsignor.
A couple of party girls arrive and meet the monsignor and tease him about how dull his life must be compared to theirs.
He replied that his life in fact was very exciting right from the beginning as a priest because his first confession was from a murderer.
The marquis makes his rounds of the party, greeting one and all and comes up to the girls and the monsignor.
He says that the monsignor and him go way back - in fact when the monsignor was a priest, he was his first confessor.

It is a nice tight story that lends itself to excellent visuals - the upper-crust peerage, the elegant party, the party girls, the monsignor and most of all, the succession of expressions on the faces of the girls who hear about the murderer then finally know something they were not supposed to and the monsignor who has not technically violated the seal of the confessional, but has divulged enough for the girls to figure it out. It can be converted to the modern day with the marquis replaced by a business tycoon.

You should be able to get a lot of mileage from typical stock film photos - there is nothing unusual or unique about this story that would prevent you from taking stock footage from any of a number of stories and stitching them together to get a good storyboard.

Yea sounds pretty hard. So your just telling the story through I ages, that's tough to do some times. I guess it depends on what kind of story you're trying to tell. Can the pictures be of anything? People, objects, pictures in succession. Horror would be good. Do you have any pets? You could always do something with pets in horror. I'm not a very creative person either, so I'm probably not very helpful. I apologize.

No, I really appreciate you trying anyway, I don't expect much 🙂

Well, basically I have to produce a certain amount of images (minimum 15) of a scene which presents a section of a story... Most likely going to go with horror, as its a good way of being shown through camera angles and shots and lighting... - I'm going to be doing this outside so I'm just gonna have to go with the light that is given to me. And I only have tomorrow to take the photos. I am allowed to use one or two images from another film - but only to present a specific location or if it has no actual visual of a persons face.

Someone suggested to me that I film in these woods I know of, build up the tension somehow and get an image from some film of a person hanging from a tree or something disturbing yet appropriate if you get me?

If you have ANY suggestions to share I'm all ears 😀

Oh OK. So its only one scene. That's managable. I like the idea in the woods. Some one finds a body hanging. Or just a dead body in general. You could do something like Wrong Turn or The Hills Have Eyes. Crazy murdering people.

Yeah I get what you're saying 🙂 I think I probably will do something like that then.. Do you know of any good horror films where it involves a body in the woods? I watch so many, and of course my mind is completely blank.

Could be wrong as its ages since I've seen it, but doesn't Friday the 13th have a body in the woods scene? Also am thinking things like Evil Dead, Cabin Fever etc..

By the way if you actually want people to do this for you we change a fee just saying!😉

Several NCIS and CSI stories have a body in the woods. They have to identify the body, gather the evidence and then for a nice twist, they get hacked up by the killer. Great visuals.
