The film came out today in the UK (and I think America as well...though I could be wrong)

I've seen it before, but it was the japanese version with japanese vioces, but I had subtitles. It was awesome.

Me and my friend were worried about the dubbing now that they put English voice acting over the top. Having seen some of it today and ALL the extras on the special edition dvd I bought today(which are mega cool by the way) I must admit I'm impressed!!! Some of the voices are....just ok...but none are so bad its annoying.

I recommend this film to any final fantasy fan, animated film fan(or any film fan) and to everyone on these boards because it is AMAZING!!!!

(If you saw spirits within, dont worry. Its MUCH better than pile of crap. final fantasy my ass!)

Have people seen it? Are people interested/not interested? Comments people!!!

I saw the japanese one ages ago.

Will definately buy the english one but I have no clue how Im gonna take it seriously. After all, the guy doing Clouds voice is Jason Quartermaine from General Hospital

Seriously!!!

I had no idea.

Well so far I'm pleased with the voices. Kadaj has a bit of an annoying voice and they really stereotyped Barrets voice. But its all good. Plus the extras are great!!!

They have sneak previews of all the new Final fantasy 7 games coming out!!!

Crisis core
Before crisis
Dirge of Cerberus(awesome trailers thingy!!!seriously the FMV sequences are like Advent children quality!!!!!!!)

oooh, now I just need money.

Btw, how are Mena Suvari and Racheal Leigh Cook in it? They any good?

Well I havent watched it all yet (with the english voices) But so far so AWESOME! Racheal Leigh Cook is awesome as Tifa. I havent got to an Aeris bit yet!

Quinton Flynn does Reno's voice!!!!! If I'm correct he did the voive to tidus in ffX, plus Raiden in mgs2!!!

AWESOME!

Another extra is a compilation of ALOAD of scenes from final fantasy 7 so people who havent seen it can understand it!!! Its sooooo good!!!!

I was forced to watch this complete and utter pish.. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

If you want a more constructive way to waste time, I recommend stabbing yourself in the eye with a pencil.

Hmm well I'm not keen on that pencil thing I must say.

But hubby and I saw an ad for this and were like 'huh?' So we will probably be watching it in the near future.

You're not a Final Fantasy fan Fiver?

Do you mind expanding on 'complete and utter pish' with your criticism. I'm intrigued to know what people don't like about it...so we can have a discussion

I haven't had the chance to watch this at all. But I'm a big Final Fantasy fan and I will be watching it very soon and joining in with this discussion. 🙂

I've played 7, 8, 9, 10, 10 part 2. The only one I actually liked was 8, the others were just...dull.

This should probably have spoiler tags, but I have no idea how to do that, plus I don't care that much.

Lets see. It has NO story.
It's basically one long fight scene after another. Possibly the best character in the whole series, Sephiroth(the only plausible reason for making the thing), is in the "film" for about ten minutes.

He comes, he fights, he dies...again.

Wtf? Where's the character progession? Cloud learns what? How has he(or any of the characters) changed from the start of the "film" to the end? What's the actual point of the thing? Other than to exhort money out of some mindless chumps(and to play the Sephiroth theme tune).

I can think of only two moments in the whole thing that I liked.

1)The victory theme ring tone was quite hilarious.

2)Clouds dialogue when he's fighting Sephiroth( I think this is accurate).

Sephiroth: So what is it that keeps you fighting?

Cloud: There's no use telling someone like you.

Sephiroth: I thought of what to give you as a gift...
Shall I give you despair?
Kneel, and beg for forgiveness.
What is most important to you?
I'll be glad to take it away.

Cloud: You still don't understand anything.
Everything is important to me!

fair enough! My answers below :p. 8 was my fav as well!
There is a story, although it is hard to follow after the seemingly endless fight scenes. (Although I think they are ALL very cool! I like the bike chase scee the best!) This is ign.com summary of the story (I dont know how to do spoiler tags either so if wanting to Avoid spoilers look away NOW!)

'The movie opens with the great city of Midgar in ruin. Bands of children roam streets and haunt alleyways. Tifa returns to Midgar in hopes of starting a new life. Cloud retires his sword to live a life of solitude outside city limits... But this lull after the climactic events in FF7 comes to an abrupt end when a group of mysterious thugs conspire to use the children of Midgar to resurrect an old nemesis.'

and as you said he is killed...again.

I think though although the character progression may be lacking, for an entirely computerised film it does well to give Clouds chracter in particular some depth. He goes on a journey (Sorry for the cheese) throughout the film to overcome his guilt for what he sees as is fault, Aeris' death in final fantasy 7. Which he does in the end, with the help of Aeris's spirit, or as a part of his conscience, or whatever your own take on it is.

Kadaj' character also changed throughout. It was aparent that he was entirely devoted to his 'mother' Jenova and desperately felt it was his duty to fulfil what she did not. I thought that Yazoo and Loz possesed similar qualities.

Although particially the point of the film was just to please fans with a continuation of 'the best roleplaying game of all time' (Although i think second or third best) it was to spark off the franchise again. Crisis core, before crisis, and dirge of the cerberus all NEW final fantasy 7 games coming out in the near future.

Also as clouod says at the end 'i know. I'm not alone anymore.' I think that sums up his journey throughout the film.

(I apologize if any/all of this doesnt make sense!)

Well, that was different.

I wont be watching that again. Japanese one for me from now on.

First major issue I had was Rachel Leigh Cook as Tifa. Why? She was just so wrong!
I did however like Barrett. Cid too.
Rufus was a bit of a dissappointment. Vincent was too American although not as bad as I thought he'd be. There was something not right about Sephiroth. I cant figure out what though. Cait Sith was hilarious. But why Scottish? Red XIII was wrong too.

Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo were great though. Aeris was ok. Could have been a lot worse than Mena Suvari *cough*Mandy Moore*cough*

The other Major problem was they changed at least 2 of the best lines in the film.

They changed
Rude: Hey, this is so much fun, isn't it?
Reno: Best day of my *life*!

Even though it wasnt a major change, I was still dissappointed cos i loved that line.

Worse though was Barretts best line. They changed it from "youre late bitch" to "hows it going?" or something equally crap.

Basically Im glad I saw the Japanese one first.

What about 'Dilly Dally Shilly sally.' lol. I still thought most of the voice acting was pretty good. Gotta agree with Red 13's being a tad on the crappy side though!
