We're you happy with the last scene?

I think one of the core four should have had the last line instead of Dawn. Many people didn't like her, or atleast not as much as Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Giles (or even Faith), and she was semi-forced into the series by the company who aired the show because they felt the main characters were getting too old.
No offense to Spike fans either, but I felt that Buffy's last words should have been something more reflective on the series. He was important to her and gave her "the fire back" but sometimes I think that she should have had more lines before the show ended or her last word should have been something other than his name.
I didn't like that Dawn was placed second to the front with Xander and Willow behind her. I thought that seemed wrong.
 
I'm not against it or anything but I was curious as to why Dawn was picked to say the last line in the show. I'm sure she was picked at pure random. But if one would like to view the reason in a deeper perspective then I guess Dawn was picked because in Chosen a lot of people we're being empowered by the Psythe so now the people who were once potentials are now carrying the slayer line. Dawn representing the new Slayer generation as oppossed to just the scoobies. Make sense?
 
Thats an interesting idea Blessed, the new generation one.

It is a bit odd that Dawn had the last line and Buffy's last line was "Spike", but I cant think of anything for her to say that wouldn't have been corny.

Wasn't the idea that Dawn was bought on because the cast were getting old poo-pooed by Sarah anyway? I can remember her saying some magazines had suggested it and she was like "But im only 23!" Plus, the show already had someone who is 40ish and James who was (at the time) late thirties.
 
When it was taken away from the highschool setting the ratings started going down so the people in charge thought it may have something to do with viewer relatability since the core audience was teenagers who were still in highschool.

Blessed, I like that idea.
 
Well I think with a show like Buffy fans may have been teens when the characters were, so they were adults in S5. Yeah there may be new or younger characters but I don't think anybody would feel that much of a need to have easy association.

Or maybe its just me.
 
Yea, I don't think they would need to feel an easy connection either, but it was one of the ways the network tried to get the ratings back up by trying things that made the show become so quickly popular to begin with.
 
I don't really think it mattered that much who had the final line. Dawn is as good a character as any.

I did like Giles's line in the final scene when they were reflecting on the fact that the hellmouth was destroyed; "There's another one in Cleveland." I think it just sums up Giles's attitude throughout the series.

Plus the Sunnydale sign falling over in the last shot was brillient.

It always annoyed me that buffy didnt say anything i really wanted her to say something cheesey in answer to dawns question like "whatever we want" or "fight evil" or " or i dont know but i cant wait to find out" lol you know what i mean- although i did read the book that was written the same as the last episode and in the book dawn says he line and then in italics (to represent buffy's thoughts) it said cookie dough- which at first it confused me but now i get it she's done baking or becoming whatever the hell shes gonna be
 
I thought the last scene was perfect as it was.

It was very natural, it didn't sound forced or corny.

It didn't try so hard to make that last moment special...it let you attatch your own meaning to it, and that made it beautiful.

Loved the camera zooming in on just Buffy smiling for the final shot...perfect.

The episode managed to wrap up some major things, but the final line was a question. It gave closure to the series while still allowing the fanficcers who want to imagine what happened next room to live and breathe.

The whole thing was perfect.
 
I was happy with the final scene. I thought it was a really sweet moment between Xander and Andrew, (though Xander would have broken down crying if it was real life), I loved the last line, and I loved the way that the sunnydale sign fell into the crator. I absoloutley loved it. 🙂

In a way, I feel that Buffy had the last 'line'. Yeah, Dawn got the last spoken words, but Buffy had the last line.

You see, the group is talking about evil being gone, they can do whatever they want, and with the spell that changed the potentials into slayers, Buffy is asked what they should do. We see Buffy smile, and I took that as her thinking that she finally got to be what she wanted all along: to be a normal girl with a normal life. So, her smiling told us that she was now complete and ready to face her life.

That, in it's essence was the final line of the Buffyverse story.

I know what you're saying. Buffy got the final scene but she didn't have the last line. It just seemed like she should have.
 
I always like to point out the similarity between the Chosen final scene, and the final scene for Alien Resurrection which Joss also wrote. Here's the last bit of AR.

Ripley gets up, looks out over the cliffs edge at the lights the city.

Christie offers the bottle to Call. She takes it and drinks.

VRIESS (to Call)
I guess you won't want to be answering any official Questions either.

CALL
I guess not.

She is grateful for the suggestion that they are in it together.

VRIESS
Well, we're on Earth, for Chrissake. Plenty of places to get lost here.

CALL
So I've heard.

After a moment, she gets up as well, goes over to Ripley. She hands her the bottle. Ripley looks at it.

CALL
It's a drink. You drink it.

RIPLEY (smiling)
I remember. She drinks.

CALL
So, what do you think?

RIPLEY
Think?

CALL
What should we do now?

RIPLEY
I don't know.

She looks out in the distance...

RIPLEY
I'm a stranger here myself

The two of them stand side by side staring out at the unfamiliar horizon...

i dont really like that dawn had the last line but the way it was written, no one else could. buffy had said her bit (which i agree with. it proved how much spike had really meant to her in the end. whether she loved him or not) and giles had said his bit. they'd talked about the mall being destroyed so none of them really had anything left to say.
also, dawn was buffy's sister so when she asked what are they gonna do now, it made more sense. afterall everyone could go and do whatever they wanted (as you find out in angel, they do. they all go different places. (where does xander go though?)) but dawn and buffy have to stay together.

that made sense when i was thinking it.
 
I was not happy. It seemed like it just ended..I wanted to know like what happened to everyone and stuff but oh well. The symbolism was good tho..

I honestly must buy the bookm they usually elaborate the episodes more and you get an insight of their minds.

I just wished Chosen had a better last scene

I quite agree. The episode ended one phase in Buffy's life . . . and opened up another in which she and the Scoobies continue on with their adulthood. Will their fates end up like the fates of the AI Team? Or will they be more lucky? And wiser?
