The cover, by Georges Jeanty, has been released, complete with inks and the missing character that was supposed to be there all along.

Inked and Penciled. Including a character who wasn't in the previously released cover. Georges did say that this character was supposed to be on it. Still no word on why a certain other character isn't on it.

I would assume it was because he simply is a bit player during the season. Would be the same as saying 'why no Oz' 'why no Riley'

Lol, they really tried to make us think Dawn would die in #39. 😛 I don't understand why Giles is still here, though. But I'm glad to see him.

And. Must. Not. Comment. About. Angel's. B*tt. Face.

Oh, Giles. 🙁 I miss him, but I don't get why he's on the cover looking alive and well. Guess they really tried to surprise us?

Well, I'm kinda pissed about all the time I/we spent discussing & debating this cover & what it meant WRT who was the betrayer & who was the major death. And now it seems to mean absolutely nothing...or does it?

I've said it before and I'll say it again - death does not always mean death in the Buffyverse.

Maybe Giles is dead. Maybe he isn't. Maybe this is a tribute to his character. Maybe this has something to do with something Giles is going to do posthumously. His is at the very back looking all stern.

I'm more concerned with why Angel's there, and in such a prominent position - i.e before Xander and Willow. After what he did, surely Buffy wouldn't want him anywhere near her?

what we can't see is the crossbow in Xander's hand aimed directly at Angel's heart... nor can we see the fireballs being conjured by Willow that are about to immolate him... not can we see the chastity belt being held by Buffy made of blessed Silver that she's about to lock on Angel lol

That's why I'm wondering if this cover is more about a retrospective of s8 rather than about anything post 39.

Maybe Angel killed a Giles-bot! 😀

Maybe it was an Angel-bot killing a Giles-bot!

If it is, then that would explain the no Spike thing. He wasn't really a big player in this season, and the others were.

Exactly.
I thought the Sunnydale sign was a stand in for Spike, but IDK, I think I remember reading somewhere that Georges just put that in there randomly?

Just seeing as how they're all standing in the sun, what with the end of Twilight and all, I guess it wouldn't have made sense to physically have Spike there. Unless he was crouched under a blanket or something, in which case I think he would look remarkably unheroic, lol. 😀

Angel's in the sun too so that doesn't make sense either.

He already could do that before as part of his Twilight power package.

And he may also have been Shanshued, which would be great, because then we can kill him easily.

Yes, I have bloodlust in my eyes thinking of the Boreanaz character whose name shall no longer be spoken. *spits*

You shall have to go through me to get to my undead country man! Bring it! :p
But Twilight's gone, he's not under Twilight's power anymore...aaaaand I'm just remembering my own words about maybe this cover is more about an overview of the entire season and now I'll just go sit in the corner....
