Firefly speculation

Since I'm tired of waiting for these stories to be told through one tv, sequels, or comics, I would love to hear your speculation on the following.....(reading your speculation is much more interesting to me than fanfiction).


1. Why did Inara leave Sihon? (sp?)

2. What did Wash, Kaylee and Jayne do during the war?

3. How did Wash and Zoe get together?

1. Why did Inara leave Sihon? (sp?)

Somewhere, I got the impression that the Companions' ...Academy(?) or whatever it was called was primarily a training facility, and once a student graduated, she, or he, if male Companions existed, were pretty much expected to leave and ply their chosen trade somewhere else, either operating from a traveling base, like Inara did from "Serenity," or at a permanent base on another planet or moon.


2. What did Wash, Kaylee and Jayne do during the war?

I got the impression that the Rebels weren't a huge force, so probably the greatest majority of the Federation's population weren't involved in the fighting at all.


3. How did Wash and Zoe get together?

Wash was hired by Mal to be the ship's pilot, so he and Zoe probably didn't know each other before that, and it was a case of dislike at first site, for Zoe, at least, as was shown in "Out Of Gas." My guess is that she didn't like him at first because of that ridiculous growth of hair on his upper lip, but once he shaved it off, it was a case of love at second site.

1. Why did Inara leave Sihon? (sp?)
My take on Inara is that as much as she valued propriety and station and all of that other high society stuff, she had a restless, adventurous spirit. She didn't want her restless, adventurous spirit, but she had it. That's why she fell for Mal. That's why she helped the gang sometimes. That's why she didn't immediately accept Atherton's offer. That's why she traveled the world with her rag-tag band of friends. I think Inara struggled to balance her actual desires with what she thought her desires should be. Choosing to leave Sihon and operate from a mobile, not-very-respectable base is just the first indication of Inara's displeasure with the society of which she was a part.

2. What did Wash, Kaylee and Jayne do during the war?
Wash said he was in flight school, didn't he? Kaylee was just a kid. Jayne was probably a budding mercenary, maybe working for whichever side of the war would pay him, but most likely getting his start as some small-moon hood under a sleezeball like Badger.

3. How did Wash and Zoe get together?
Umm, see WA's answer. It's better than anything I've got to offer.
