Ok I have never seen Firefly before but I want to go see the movie that's out in 2 days, So would anyone like to explain the plot and the characters, and where the movie takes off from??

Truth be told, you don't really need to know the plot or characters before going in. The movie's going to give you the most essential info. But, you kow, if somebody at the boards here has more time than I do right now, to give you the rundown I say go for it. And yes, go see Serenity. Please? More $ made by the movie means SEQUELS!!!

TV show premise...

Five hundred years in the future, there is a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action. They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space." The show's universe is a solar system full of Earth-like planets that have been colonized by humans. Culturally, American and Chinese influences battle for supremacy "” the characters swear in Chinese and Asian newspapers and props appear throughout the various locales in the show "” with the show's events taking place after a civil war fought over whether planets should remain independent entities. Unfortunately, the oppressive Alliance won and it governs everything except for outlaws, like the Serenity gang, who do their best to fly under the radar.

the characters are Captain Malcolm Reynolds, who is played by Nathan Fillion, (better known as Caleb the preacher to buffy fans),

Inyara who is a companion, (which is like a prostitute with high esteemed respect, and class. she chooses who her clients are and she brings knowledge, respect, and some safeguards to the ship),

Kaylee the ships mechanic, she is a sweet girl who just loves machines. she may not be the smartest person on the ship but if there is something wrong with serenity, she's your girl. she really looks up to Inyara, because she is nice, well off, and finally Kaylee gets to dress up and have a good time like a real girl because she goes with Inyara. (and a lot of other people on the ship.)

Jayne, who is kind of a mean person, all he cares about is the money. he doesnt care about helping any one else. especially not this new passenger they have. (he is played by Adam Baldwin, who played Marcus Hamilton in Angel)

Shepard Book, who is a nice man who is just interested in traveling. and actually helps them all in times you might not think a man of god would.

Zoe, who is the Captains first mate. they fought in the war toghether and have been close friends for years. she is married to the ships pilot. (she was also the evil people eating old one named Jasmine in Angels fourth season.)

Wash is the ships pilot. he has been with serenity since Mal first got the ship, as have Zoe, Kaylee, and Jayne. he is married to Zoe.

I cant remember the doctors name off the top of my head but he is the doctor, and he has proven to be a good person to have on the ship. sometimes with all their illegal missions and crossing the wrong people situations call for a doctor.

and finally, there is the doctors sister, River, she was sent to a special school not to long ago. who did experiments on her brain, things that really messed her up. and made her (in the eyes of some people) seem crazy. but she is actually the smartest person on the ship. her brother helped her escape from this horrible school and now she and her brother are on the run from the alliance. she is the "troublesome" passenger, that attracts a lot of trouble.

I'm sorry, but it has to be said. The companion's name is spelled Inara.

Seriously I know everyone makes spelling oopsies, and I don't mean to be mean, or go all (what Mr P calls) spelling Nazi, but this one had to be corrected or Inyara would start popping up all over the board.

It's ok, my boyfriend the New Browncoat tried to argue with me, the Old Browncoat, arguing that it was spelled Anara. 😉 Don't even worry about it.

Joss gave us some screwy name spelling for Firefly. I have to be honest. I'm never 100% sure about "Kaylee". Oh, and Zoe - that one sounds like Zoe-ee.
