First ANGEL TV Movie May Hit in September

Also, will we finally see Faith the Vampire Slayer? Tru Calling has supposedly not been picked up for a second season.

Scooper 'Daybill' returned with some news from the ANGEL front:

The WB is working on a new stand-alone telemovie, ANGEL, to air tentatively in September. The first two-hour pic is going to essentially launch the series as a sequence of films - different villain, different storyline, each one.

The first is going to tie-in with the events of the series final episode. The season ender is going to go out with a huge cliffhanger, and we'll have to wait till September to find out how it all ends.

Eliza Dushku is in talks to appear in the telemovies, as Faith, the vampire slayer. Her series TRU CALLING isn't going to be picked up for a second season, so I assume she jumped at it.

There's no titles for these Angel films yet, but all six - bi-monthly over a period of a year - will be something like ANGEL: OUTLAWED, or ANGEL: DOMINION. You get the pic.

What's interesting is, Joss Whedon's not going to have much to do with the first couple. He's apparently doing a movie for Universal. Wonder how that's going to go down with fans?

I guess that big truck - which i again saw last week driving around - did something to save this show.

How valid is this report? Well, Daybill hasn't failed us before, but September seems like too quick a turnaround for a tv movie, although not altogether impossible. It's possible that the first could be filmed after a short break, but I would think that the principal cast would want to get away from these characters for a while.

The finale Daybill speaks of also lines up with an April 17 report from our friends over at Spoiler Slayer, where they said that the series will likely end on a cliffhanger.

Joss Whedon's lack of involvement - I wouldn't be surprised. The movie Daybill speaks of is, of course, the film version of FIREFLY, which is being fasttracked at Universal. However, if these movies go forward, I have no doubt that some of the ANGEL/Mutant Enemy regulars will return.

Anyway, September is a bit sudden but let's not complain if it does happen. I hope they dont have corny names like suggested just "Angel" will do me, I mean they could advertise it as a TV movie so as not to cause confusion.

As long as a lot of the crew are back for the movies I wont mind about the lack of Joss. I'm sure he'll be informed all the way and have a say if he feels the need. Would be nice if he did at least one though, or at least co-wrote one.
 
Faith the Vampire Slayer. I'd love watching that. I can't wait for the Angel movies!!!
 
Do any of you think that Buffy/Angel will ever make it to the theatres?
 
I really hope so...But I'm also pretty sure that even if it makes to theathres in the US they'll never show it here🙁

Im not so sure of this, since it has been comfirmed awhile ago that Tru Calling was picked up for a second season(if I remember correctly), and if there is a tv movie then they will need some guest appearnces to fill 2 slots that will supposely end in the series finale.

Actually, from what I heard recently (and I heard the same report as you Primal Slayer, but Fox released somthing more recent than that) Tru Calling is on the bubble...which means they haven't quite decided what to do with it yet, and probably won't until the ratings for the season ender come un...much like Angel last year....
 
As long as it has david, sarah, james, nick, and Allyson then it's all good.

Faith the vampire slayer... Would that be a show or a role in the movie?
 
That's great! I really hope all of these movies work out and from what I'm hearing they probably will! I'm so excited!!!!
 
This would be awesome...I am so looking forward to the possibility of Angel movies...it's the next best thing to the show, although I really really wish we could have the show...although September seems a bit early, but hey...I'm still hoping! I can't wait!
 
I'm not sure about this being a good idea. Don't get me wrong. I love 'Angel', and I think this season has been a big improvement on the last one, so I don't think that the stories are drying up... far from it. However, to try to make stand alone mini TV movies which will all be wrapped up in 2 hours (minus ad breaks) seems a bit of a tough task to me.

I suppose what I have always loved about the whole Buffyverse is the interaction between characters and their own personal developments, but mini movies, by their very nature won't have time to explore these things, and I doubt they will develop through the movies.

Also, I don't know how scheduleable (I may have made that word up ::mmm:: ) 6 two hour mini movies would be. Sky fits in regular one hour shows with no problem, but 6 two hour shows may cause a bit of a scheduling nightmare, and leave 'Angel' filling the 1am time slot.

Also, I would hope to have a bit more input from Joss than seems to be indicated (though I am really looking forwards to 'firefly' the movie!)

And (sorry to rant a bit ::grrr2:: ) but I thought the whole reason the series was being dropped was because of the money it cost per episode versus the ratings it brings in... but surely the mini movies are going to cost a bit... Being stand alone, then surely they are going to neeed loads of different locations, and not the very cost effective one or two sets (such as the Hyperion or Wolfram and Hart) that they got to use repetedly when story arcs were the dish of the day. Now they will need lots of different sets for one use each time... and if that isn't the case, then why not just keep the series going? Plus, I don't see why the mini movies would get more rating than the series... surely the viewers of the mini movies will be the same people from the same demographic who watched 'Angel' in the first place. I just don't get the logic behind it (although it is possible that all the campaigning has softened the execs hearts just a teeny bit and this is their equivelent of them throwing us a bone to shut us all up... like that would work! After the mini movies are over I doubt we will let it lie, unless Joss himself calls it a day that is).

Of course, having said all that, when they get to air, I will be sitting there with a bucket of popcorn and a happy grin on my face that 'Angel' is back (I never said I wasn't fickle! ::change:: )

I just hope they are not 'too' stand alone... I want them to refer back to what has happened in the past a bit... I am just soppy in that way.

Are the UKers (like me) gonna get to see them?
I mean, Emma Caulfield's TV Movie 'I Want to Marry Ryan Banks' is something I necer got to see, and it left me thinking, is this is going to be what its like with an Angel TV Movie?

That would be my thoughts exactly. I'm very excited to hear that this is a possbility, but September does seem a bit to soon.

Well Sky apparently are willing to pay towards the cost of S6 so Im guessing they'll be okay with TV Movies. I emailed them about a week ago asking, in abotu 4 weeks they'll reply.
