Anyway. I think this is the way it would go down for me:
I would like to ask a certain someone out but that certain someone has apparently a date already. So I do the cliché thing and ask my best friend Epo out. She probably already has a date but doesn't want to hurt my feelings so she says "eeeh... maybe we can all go together?" I end up feeling like a third wheel, dumping my best friend and her date, hiding somewhere in a dark corner drinking spiked punch trying to keep the tears away while watching that certain someone happily dancing with her date.
